  1.

Was this Renner part of your family history?

Not really, it's an old friend of my Mum and Dad's, and i'd asked them to scan in some old photos and slides of there French shite. TBH I'd never heard of a 17 until trying to figure out the model. Styling is very Japanese pseudo Americana if that's even a thing. I'll ask for more info.

  2. I remember going to Jaywick in about 2007 with my now wife.  We spent the day sunbathing on the beach and swimming in the sea, it was nice!  Then a couple of years back we saw the program on telly and even saw some of the stars* walking around Colchester.  I was quite shocked at how bad it looked though editing can show just about anything you want.

Getting back to crowdfunding the Chevy repair, I can't help think that the owner may have better ways to spend the money - I don't know say roof repair or paying the heating bill.  It's a nice idea, and i'd happily donate but it may be a little blinkered looking at one resident's old car.

  3. I think I've had this informative publication since I was about 3 years old...(highlights). Again, more pipe smoking! Based on Aston Martin.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I work for Ford and this book would be handy for my kids to understand what I actually do.
  4. We've had this 2CV in the family since about 1990.

The original Reg was E323BMB - we called it Bomb.  In 2003 we resprayed it grey and some years before the roof went from red to black.

I learned to drive in this car and drove it about for about 6 weeks after i passed my test.  The baffles had gone out of the exhaust so it sounded great - was a shame to fit a new silencer.

Then at the end of 2003 it went off to France with my Mum & Dad who decided to finally move to Brittany.

Now it lives under a lean-to and passed it's French MOT this year.  From June 27 it has achieved ‘Véhicule de Collection’ status meaning it only needs an MOT every 5 years.

My Dad would love to have it's chassis replaced in 2019 and the body resprayed again.  I've offered to do the work but yet to put things into action.

They've had Citroen's since the 70s - I need to start documenting the history and scan in some old photos but needless to say it's full of CXs, dyanes, 2CVs, Visas, BXs, Xantias.  They currently own a C4 and they're considering a DS5.

On a secondry note, this thread also needs some hot LNA action.  This one is in a garage yard near me.  Once I have the space I may pluck up the courage to put a note through the door.

  5. For two bucket wrong-uns types, i've heard but yet to try blue-tak as a clay bar alternative.  I've bought a meguiars clay bar kit for £15+ and very good it is too but i could probably do the same job for £2 of blue-tak and a squirt of shampoo in a squirty water bottle.

+1 for Mr Muscle in VAG VNT turbos.  This really does work if only a temporary improvement.

Regarding swarfega alternatives, I use salt/olive oil/ fairy liquid equal parts unless i've got cuts, then I substitute sugar for salt.  The resulting emulsion is better at removing oil.  Caster sugar is best at getting into the prints of your hands.  Many of the bags in the missus' cake ingredient cupboard have black fingerprints on.

Fairy liquid and water mix for showing up boost leaks.

Lighter gas to show up vacuum leaks.

  6. I did the clutch on my Multipla - took about 11 hrs over 2 nights.  Required splitting the ball joint on the track rod ends  Couldn't split one but managed to get on and complete the job.

Maiden voyage down the A12 and i hear a loud bang.  Slightly shat myself but carried on another 25 miles to work.  Had a good look round at lunch and couldn't find anything obvious.  Drove home again (44 miles) and the car feels decidedly vague in the dead-ahead position.  Drove back in another 44 miles into work - this time with some tools.  Decided to take the front wheels off to have a proper look...

    Oh.

  7. I'd have to have an aircraft hanger full of cars for each & every occasion.  It'd have to include a Multipla with a Busso engine, a 2cv with a BMW1200 bike engine and one of those 'modern' Morgans with the Harley engine.

But to be honest i've always thought RX7's were pretty much perfect, prices are just as silly as other cars brought up in the thread so far.

  8. At the risk of making myself unpopular, Mk4s are a useful tool. I've owned 2 115PDs and got them to 313K  and 220K miles.  They had several issues but only what other makes & models of the same era had.  They're not dynamic but will blast along motorways at 85 and return 45mpg.  I hated how wallowy mine was so lowered on coilovers - hence the sump /road come-together that may* have caused the shear bolts to snap.

So there, wouldn't have another, but if i had one i'd run it till it grenades.
