  1. So I need a tow car so I can work easilyusing my trailer for my gardening tools, I have a Volvo 740, now I have a tow bar. OK it was listed as being for the 940/60 estate but I believe it's the same tow bar across the entire range, we'll see if it is today i hope! In Mondeo news, I think the cost of a new turbo and removal or replacement of the dpf is prohibitive, I've being eyeing up replacements. However, I have the 740 so there's no rush...
  2. Package for the 740! Apparently the same tow bar will go on a 740/60 940/60 saloon and estate, because that makes sense and follows Volvos logic things being 'easy' to fix... I'll report later on how true that is, this was listed as for 940/60 estate, mine is 740 saloon, so far things look the same underneath so I'm hopeful.
  3. I'm getting excited and I'm only an hour away. Camping in Meirionydd! Me and two kids! Road trip in the 740! Bacon! Savour the flavour, it won't be long before all the pig farmers have gone bust and pork is unaffordable.
  4. So the Mondeo is shitting oil somewhere likely the turbo, causing dpf blockage, smoke and I mean smoke, and permanent limp mode. I've tried static regen, can't, computer says no. Even if I were it's likely that it would get shat up with dying turbo oil in no time. So I'm limping it around and waiting for an ebat towbar for the Volvo so that can take over my gardening work for while, so i can sort out another daily. Still, it's done 9 months and only needed a track rod and been so useful. I'd definitely have another but not one with anything near 200k miles on it!
  5. So it looks like my Mondeo is not regenerating the dpf because its covered in oil from the turbo having an oil leak. Sad news, but it has done well, in 9 months all its needed is a drop link. So Volvo is getting a tidy Ebay tow bar and working the daily jobs while i look for something fun* with a tow bar to do the daily work grind in the long term.

  7. I've been lending my 740 to a friend while his V70 undergoes a lot of mot work, and he only went and got married in it!
  8. Is that an Accent on those words? Right, I'm off to listen to a Concerto.
  9. Need a towbar for the Volvo 740 saloon. They are rare apparently, but I see 940 estate tow bars. Does anyone know if they'll fit?
  10. Is this for me? I'll find out later anyway and post the log for the dpf pressure. I can see new dpf cost about £130, are these naff off-brand shite or are they decent pattern replacement? Seems like removing it can cost a fair bit.
  11. So, laundry list time: Tell me more about dpf delete, isn't it illegal to drive without one with a vehicle the was produced with one fitted? What about mot time?
  12. In seriousness I'll confirm my Friday night/Saturday morning or not soon. If I'm here then breakfast will be required. The kids could share a brekkie between them.
  13. So I've just driven back from Bristol, nearly 4 hours, in limp mode. Good for the fuel economy at least...
  14. Brekkie, Scots, Cymraeg, Turkish, give me it all!
  15. I've just driven back from Bristol in limp mode, that's nearly 4 hours travel time with basically no power. If I go for the stop and restart engine I get power, bluish white smoke and then limp mode. I'm going to get the codes when I get a moment, I've got to turn around and go to a gig (in Wifey's cars, I dare say as I've lent my Volvo out so I can't use it) then not sure what I'll do for work tomorrow!!!
  16. So I drove to Brizzle with fresh oil and I got engine lights, smoke, even limp mode for a while. When I get home I'll see what codes are there but it's definitely not happy 😪 Is almost like it can handle 70 mph and gentle acceleration but it can't handle 80 mph and heavier acceleration.
  17. Nope, lights on dash and smoke and limp mode. Doh!
  18. So I had the oil deterioration light on the Mondeo and the smoke and the failed regens. A quick oil change and dtc reset later and fingers crossed maybe I'll have sorted it.
  19. Turns out the other two dpf codes haven't come back, only oil deterioration codes. The others are cruise control not working and the boost, which has been there for months and months. It did have one warning about soot build up, unsurprising if it's blowing smoke and not regenerating! It says its done a regen recently. That's surprising if the oil deterioration code is there, isn't it? Anyway, time to stick the new oil in.
  20. Right, dropped the diesel-diluted oil, got a new bottle. Hopefully that will shut the computer up about degraded oil so i can get on with clearing all the codes. I'll plug it in and see what codes are there just now...
  21. Its '08, and @mat_the_cat put new hoses on and flushed out the dpf. I'll get the codes again later, but for now what's the vaporiser? I take it it doesn't smoke herbs or kiddie fake tobacco while I'm not looking?
