A Megane Estate is my answer to everything after 6 years experience of them. They do have a DMF, if a 110hp,  but it seems to be a robust one.

quite agree, until they come up with a plan as to how they are going to fund all these things they plan to do without raising taxes all I see is a even less competant lot than the Tories.
What we all have to face up to is we saddled ourselves with an enourmous debt during covid (which all parties agreed with) and over the next few years we have to pay this back while trying to grow the economy and while maintaining things like the NHS,  it seems almost inevitable that whoever is in power will continue to raise taxes to one degree or another, I'm old enough to have lived through the Brown Blair era, those guys took taxation and partcularly stealth taxes to a new level.

Pretty much this. Much like the ULEZ bollocks, it has absolutely fuck all to do with emissions and just a case of getting cars of a certain age out of the hands of people that are already struggling to get by, whilst not really doing anything to harm those with enough money to not give a fuck either way.... in fact, they'll be happy to pay for the privilege on things like LEZs because they can drive in with whatever they like knowing they'll be sat in less traffic and will find it easier to get parked. Win/Win for them.
Tax is just the LEZ where they haven't found a way to ban you, yet, so will forcibly try to get you to give up the car by making an economically sensible, reliable car financially unviable.
The extra, extra cynical side of me as well thinks it's yet another cultural shift into forcing the population into debt/finance, because that also keeps their heads down, working until they drop just to keep what they have, but don't really 'own'.

Think I’m at £715 for the Land Cruiser now.
It is what it is. What hurts is that I know that money is going nowhere. If I could see even just a sustained level of performance from government and/or local council when it comes to services I (and I think I’m not alone here) wouldn’t mind it.
But there’s not even that. Just paying more for less. The absolute shower of cunts.

Thankfully I can afford the £59 per month boot in the baws for the Saab and I like the car so I will keep paying it.

It's all about pricing people out of "old" (15+ year old?) vehicles which are inherently more reliable and long lasting than they used to be. (The MK1 Focus for example is still a remarkably modern feeling, capable, practical and reliable vehicle despite the earliest examples now being 26 years old)
10 years ago, would a 26 year old car still have been a capable, ubiquitous family car? Not to the same extent as today.
The problem they have is that there are still too many of these cars around, the scrappage scheme hasn't helped a certain section of the population but you know what will actually hit them? Increasing VED. Seriously, it works. How many people are moaning about an extra £20 a year in VED? Quite a few. And I'd be willing to be most people outside of this forum faced with a £6/7/800 annual VED bill will begin to seriously consider getting rid of the car.
Now, once they've pushed enough people out of these cars and into the BEV/HEV segment, what's going to happen?
Free road tax? That's not going to last is it....
Of course they're going to find something else as a cause to extract more tax out of everyone's pockets. Brake and tyre particulate emmisions you say? Sounds good to me! But until they have enough people roped on board for that, they need to find a way of getting everyone out of what is a band of frustratingly (for them) reliable and capable, longer lasting vehicles which are actually great for the majority of people, but of course keeping 15+ year old vehicles on the road for longer is not compatible with the climate agenda.

Focus will be £255 on next renewal... Was £240 last year and £200/12 months when I bought it in 2019..
Xsara Picasso will be £305 on next renewal, band H, which was £240/12 months in 2018.
I'm used to a fiver a year increase which I thought it always used to be, but it's not looking that way any more. Greedy cunts.

Don't be tempted to the clean your expansion tank with the pressure washer, especially with the nozzle used to pressure wash your driveway.

On a similar subject- the focus on prices and consequently what a car is to a person is a double edged sword. For sure, increased values mean things are worth restoring properly; but that brings with it a need to “protect” the investment - before you know it its in a carcoon most of the time and great care is taken to not add wear and tear- to avoid use basically.
TL:DR a preoccupation with values and the market is good and bad. It basically made me stop buying “Classic Cars” mag as they seemed obsessed with “the market” no thanks.

    To do list.
    Sort an oil leak
    Polish headlights
    MOT at some point

    Maybe.
    Change cd player for dab?
    Tidy front wings a bit.
Rear number plate bulb not working near side, (bulb is fine)
    Possibly adjust driver front window.
Maybe sort arse warmers in front.
    Replace arm rest
Replace window frame strip at outer top.

    Definitely not.
    Any bodywork.

Other things I've done, removed black electrical tape from eml on clock, no codes or fault, it now comes on and off like it should.
Put a new key fob button pad.
Sorted a fog light bulb on the right side (car told me it was left side)
And that's it. Then I'll park it next to my colleagues Audi's that they pay £600 a month for😄. Drives quite nicely, bit boring but fairly comfy.
Looking forward to the next four months then it maybe for sale with a link to this thread.
