Few updates on the Jag front.
Brake lines are all cut, flared and in place. Not finalized yet. Fronts are ready but the front to rear line runs alongside the fuel flow and return lines. I'll tidy it up when I run the fuel lines.

I've decided to go cupronickel with them, it'll match the brake lines I've fitred and means I can use the existing clamps. I had thought about running rubber the full length but decided against it.
I'll need to join them to the existing hard lines with rubber hose. I've also had to order a new fuel filter with push on fittings instead of the screw on type it should have. @SRi05 that means there's a fuel filter here for you if you want it?
Onto the caliper rebuilds. This is tricky, having never done one before.  I managed to tear one of the rubber boots on a front one but here's one front with new piston, seals and rubber boot.

    Onto the rears.

    Piston pressed out

Cleaned up and new seal installed

    Boot stretched over the piston.

And this is the tricky bit. You have to install get the lip of the seal into the caliper but you can't fit the piston afterwards. So I held the piston just inside the caliper and massaged the seal into the groove. Not easy.

    And there we go

I ran it up to temperature to bleed the coolant, the fans kicked in at the right time and needles pointed in the right directions

a quick look underneath shows nothing leaking (yet) which is even better good news

wiring looms are great when they are well made, tested and labelled clearly and legibly, not scary. mate makes his own looms from scratch for rally and high spec cars, work of art seeing them getting built on the wall/bench

Here is your scheduled weekend fleet update:
    Volvo
Needs the brake calipers rebuilt, a PAS pipe made up, welding and some tyres swapping over. Other than that it's going well, using it to lug shit over to work on the Dolly. MOT is at the beginning of November
    Acclaim
Running the commute as usual. Need to adjust the handbrake. MOT due at the end of November.
I've further defiled it's basey goodness by fitting head restraints, so at least a 15mph shunt won't decapitate the occupants.

    Doloshite
    Engine. At it on Saturday.

Me and @GingerNuttz had been discussing potential causes for the lack of compression and refusal to start and I'd been talking with @Jikovron about the same. Essentially it had to be cam timing, as losing such a huge amount of pressure anywhere else would be majorly obvious.
@GingerNuttzset the cam timing exactly the same as he did with his Herald using a micrometre to get the maximum lift on No.1 piston and aligning the cam sprocket with a degree wheel. This brought the compression down to a less than optimal 0psi per cylinder.
Right. The books were consulted, research was done, timing marks were checked and when I arrived on Saturday I was informed that the timing had been set again and we now had compression! Turns out we were probably 1 1/2 teeth out on the cam timing, enough to ruin compression but not enough for valve/piston interfacing. When it was done the second time it must have been 180 degrees out.
So, we went to fire it up. Nothing, not a cough. Checked spark, was acceptable. Fuel was being gravity fed straight to the carb so that was good. We looked at the dizzy, from memory I placed it roughly how it was back when the car last ran and from that we positioned the plug leads appropriately. Now it spluttered.
Right. Initial break in procedure is to start the engine and immediately take it up to about 2,500rpm for 20mins and run it up to temperature while full of 30w break in oil....

This is a pant shitting experience. If anything major is going to go wrong this is when it'll happen most spectacularly. I both didn't want to explode my new engine or get a rod through my face.
As it transpired nothing at all happened, oil pressure was great, coolant temp was stable, nothing leaked. After 20mins of solid running with my varying the throttle between around 2000-3000rpm we dumped all the break in oil and swapped filters. In doing this we drained the hot oil into a leaky bucket. Hence this picture:

Yes, there was no disaster, merely a cunning jape. Hohoho.
Then we filled it up with regular 20w50.
A compression test was done, 150psi per cylinder. Absolutely bang-on. Hot oil pressure at idle is 25psi, gaining another 10psi per 1000rpm, ideal. Crank float while using the clutch is 4 thou, right at the low end of the tolerance.
I had to spin the car around to allow us to continue on bodywork on Sunday.
No issues there at all aside from the brakes being utter shit from mostly just standing for 2 years...
    That's a most acceptable sound.
Right. Engine confirmed good. Need to replace the springs in the dizzy as the timing wanders and rebuild the carb... Then find another HS4 and go for twins...
    Saturday complete. Mission success.
    Sunday:
Not a whole lot to report really. I'd bought a MIG welder from @Tickman and today was the day I got to test it out.

    Hole:

    No hole:

No, I didn't bother to replicate the body pressings. It's 1.2mm steel so it'll be strong enough, it's been wafer thing crap for the last 30 years so that'll do, it also lives under the petrol tank and will never be seen.
The car is now one small triangle of steel away from have an entire boot floor for the first time in God knows how long...

That was it for Sunday. We were going to dual wield welders for maximum progress by my welding mask died to death so I borrowed @GingerNuttz's far nicer one and he gave instruction and tips.
As thanks when I went to drive the car out of the workshop it'd only run on three cylinders. The plugs are black and you can smell it's running too rich so that'll be the cause.

    Today's chodfondling.

    Shinies.

If you can only buy one tool, get an impact wrench. I don't know how I lived without it.

10 mins from dragging my tools out of the shed I had the car up, both wheels off and this out of the car.

No need to counterhold things like droplinks and pinch bolts, just blat them with the gun.
Top mount is pretty shagged and the bearing is rattling away.

I get to use my favourite* safest* tool ever.

Then the cross shaped retaining nut comes off. I just slowly tapped it round with a small hammer.

Foosty. Think I can safely say this is one of the car's squeaky points.

Power washed the spring because I'm kinda funny like that.

The old shock felt pretty limp so hopefully the new ones will change the feel of the car a lot.

    More shinies.

Spring seats were replaced with new ones. The cross nut goes back on easily with a 12mm open end spanner to lever it round.

    Tops back on.

Did both sides, which were equally knackered.

A couple of other jobs to do.

    Aux belt tensioner pulley replaced.

I didn't replace the belt as the new one didn't match the old, 6pk1743 Vs 6pk1750.
I'm not sure which one is actually correct for this car so I put the old one back on for the moment. It could be that the new one is correct for this engine and the old shorter belt has humped the tensioner?
    The garden shit pile grows.

The old dear is now noticeably quieter. There's no knocks, bangs, squeaks or anything else now. It also drives like a brand new car and feels properly planted.
Tracking is miles out again though 😵
Did hear the occasional thump from the engine bay which was a bit weird. How did I not notice the missing battery clamp?

Will sort that another day when the can be arsed level increases.

Update overdue. My carpenter arrived to take a look at the Royce (thanks @puddlethumper) and the good news is the man from Del Dudley, he say yes! Hopefully in the near future he will return and sort that one out.
Next a visit to my friend Simon resulted in one working fob for the Disco, so at least it is no longer a garden ornament, and it buys me a bit of time to sort out a spare. The PO of the Disco also phoned me to ask if the locking wheel nut key was in the centre glove box as he had found what he thought was a spare in his garage. Went out to check, no locking key, but before I could call him back he called again to say he had found the original as well! One is in the post to me, but lucky I did not get a puncture a few weeks ago on my round Britain trip!
Today, it was nice and warm and sunny so cut the grass. After which I settled down for a coffee and a catch up on AS to find it was Downtime Weekend. Bugger. Did not fancy a day in the shed so went for a run to meet up with @kinkersaab to drink his coffee. A lovely run over the Cairn O'Mount spoilt only by the number of Lycra clad morons racing each other 4 abreast up a steep hill on a narrow section of road and the fuel light coming on. Refueled (the Enema seems to be doing about 25mpg which is what I expected from a turbo 2.2 auto with permanent 4 wheel drive) and over to drink coffee. As usual, I enquired what was in compost corner, and as usual I bought it. I am blaming the staff on AS for this purchase, as if the forum had been working I definitely* would not have gone over. As a result, I will be billing them, so expect 2 fundraisers at the end of the month. No idea what I will do with it....
So, what have the AS staff bought me?

Sorry, I need to say this to the admin. You utter, utter bastards! Site was down. I went out. I bought more chod. I have to arrange collection. I return home, and the site is back up. If it had been up all day I would have 1 less car. Think I am going to pass on the purchase cost to the admin, personally.
Thanks guys, the work really is appreciated.

Bit nicer colour than before. Ran it up to temp with the heaters on full to bleed the system. Seemed ok.

    Oil leak FIXDED

I do love the smell of used parts on a Sunday.

    Wheel alignment, the shite way.

With Mrs Juular helping by providing ballast / holding the steering wheel centred it only took 30mins.
Took it a short spin and OMG the coolant light came on. Checked the reservoir and it was empty. As the temp needle was right in the middle I assumed it was just an airlock and needed a wee burp. Took it home, filled it to max again and went for a wee run.

    Sorted.
    - Alignment right on the money with a centered steering wheel. Go me.
    - Clonks and bangs and general shit handling around the streets is all gone.
    - Engine mount vibration all gone.
    - Driver's side squeaks like mad from the suspension. Not sure what the culprit is. It's very annoying.
To put my mind at ease about oil leaks I also did a blowby test using a glove over the oil filler to test the PCV system. Good sucking was achieved so that's a significant job scored off the list.
I haven't decided whether to delete the oil cooling system or not. There is good info out there that the oil coolers on these cars are pretty ineffective and there's not much to lose from binning it. Except it will save me a few hundred quid in hoses and potentially a radiator for the outlay of a £15 blanking plate.
