For some bizarre, completely unfathomable reason, I have watchlisted this crate. Great read by the way - sounds like the seller needs to be alerted to this place post haste

Exactly this, the IT tech where I work spunked out a grand on a PS4 and XBox? A couple of years back, then scrounged off his parents when his car went bang a week later due to total lack of even basic maintenance. They bought him a £3k focus. He is 35 with a young kid ffs. They need to learn, and if it’s the hard way, so be it.

The bit I've highlighted would be enough for me to politely decline and think no more of it. Sounds like he needs to learn to budget effectively. I'm not being shitty there, it's an important part of adult life.

Jazz, Focus, Yaris. Get a good ANYTHING and it'll do well. Get a shit one and it won't. There's no bulletproof cars and everything has the potential to go wrong. Lengthen the odds with a 1990s Japanese car though.

Fitting a Ford engine to a Vauxhall, isn't that like a mortal insult, though I don't know which would be the most insulted.

Odd one, Discovery still up for sale, i have someone interested....has told me he wants it for spares

whilst that's definitely the most economical use for it, knowing it'd be going to be hacked up doesn't sit well with me.

Would much prefer to sell to someone who'd at least try to save it.

    Daft emotional attachment.

Thankfully, he's one of the "What's your best price mate" brigade, so chances are he'll lose interest when i tell him the advertised price is my best price.

One of those jobs that is about 96% easier with the car on a lift.

I reckon that by the time I'd spent 20 minutes under the car trying to undo rusty fixings and attempting to separate fuel lines I'd probably be ready to set fire to the whole thing.

I would never plead guilty to something I hadn't done.  I have fought the DVLA several times in court and won - they are not as all-powerful as they would like to have you believe.

The thing these twats don't get is that if they rang up, viewed and were polite and offered a sensible lower price then I would meet them in the middle, shake hands and off they would drive into the sunset, leaving us both happy with the deal just like the good old days.

    You think that's bad?

I once had a car for sale up on an owners club forum for £2500, it was easily worth that, probably more like 3-3.5k.

Boy messaged me asking if i was open to offers, i said not really, car well priced as it was but i am looking to sell, so fire away...

I'm thinking, worst case scenario, the guys going to offer £1800, lowball me and i'd say no, if he offered north of 2k, i'd know he was serious and to be honest probably try and find some middle ground.... owners club and all that, usually the place to find serious buyers who know their worth, i don't expect to have my time wasted by too many silly offers. Maybe some in the ballpark who would agree to pay closer to asking price if car was as advertised when they collected.

    So what did he offer?

Well.... i knew it wasn't going to be pretty when he started with the usual "i have to travel to get there and that'll cost" (not my problem mate), a full story about all the costs entailed in collecting a car and getting it home, right from tickets, to petrol and insurance, plus the risk the car is not as advertised.... So his offer?

    £400.

With all the Spares. (around £800 worth), £300 without.

The fucking wheels on it were changing hands second hand for £500 on Ebay.

    I haven't been back.

    'What's your lowest?'

    (ignores that)

'I'll give you £600 if you drop it off'

It's not happening, it's got to be the full asking price

'So you won't even knock 95 off?'

    (Ignores)

'It's for my mum a single mum on a budget'

Hooray to finding the fault, it should go much better with the new pump in! Have you considered replacing both pumps at the same time and maybe suggesting to whoever does the job having a good look at any rubber lines in the tank?

Right I've found the running issue at last.

The secondary fuel pump is dead. Even putting 12v direct to it (well direct to the connector on the tank) results in no activity, doing the same to the primary pump produces pumping noises. This also explains the occasional 'restricted performance' warning which occurs when the fuel pressure drops or the ECU notices the pump failure.

Replacement is a tank out job, so I might ask the specialist to do it next week as I don't fancy it. The pump itself is £78 from SNG Barrett so I reckon £150 fitted?

Today I spent most of the day in a local scrap yard removing bits for repatriation to Mrs Beetle Cabriolet.
Woke up in what is referred to as 'my funk' not wanting to do anything or see anyone. Think it's because I miss my dog.
Anyway, after much procrastination I got my arse in gear and loaded tools, work boots and garage clothes in car and set off.
As I arrive I cheered up massively, they have a gorgeous dog (no pics) so got my fur cuddles in.
Spoke to the owner, explained what I wanted and he said VW's Are over there, help yourself.
So in I dug, it was a beautiful day and had a great time getting dirty, scraping knuckles, hurting back and getting a car full of shite!
Went all David Bailey (I know he does portraits) and started taking pics of dilapidated shit.
Unfortunately not much in the way of old crap but here are some pics.

My guess, your colour has an unusual pigment in it which they either don't have or have run out of and can't / won't order a bottle just to put two drops in your order and sit on a shelf until it dries out.
Can you tell I used to work for a place that mixed paint?
