  1. Yes. He's a doctor not a data entry clerk and has little or no need to understand the system. It's not rude or ignorant as he didn't understand the impact what he was doing, he's got far better things to do with his time. If you're doing a responsible job you prioritise the use of your time and data entry tends to be near the bottom of the list, you can always use some uni arts grad to fix it.
  2. Just as an additional point if data is being or has been manually entered then most data entry clerks won't give a damn about whether it's an invacare or whatever. If it fails validation they'll find a code that it will accept, often using one they've found to work in the past. In my experience this is very rarely found out as nobody can be bothered to check, it's not a matter of life or death. I've been guilty of this as I was one for a few months after leaving uni whilst I decided what to do. Obviously it is important with some systems but certainly not this one in my opinion.
  3. I'm neither worried nor awesomely curious. Computer systems aren't perfect and occasionally throw up a glitch which can then subsequently disappear. I reckon it's only because you're checking the exact same record every day that you've noticed it. In normal circumstances no one would notice it.
  4. It's usually not a trivial exercise to automate a process, just writing and agreeing the spec never mind the programming, testing, integration testing etc.etc. can take a lot of time even if it's apparently simple. I suspect that it's not cost effective, would need additional validation and they're still getting over the impact of Covid. I'm pretty sure the DVLA are aware of it, we may criticise them but they're not a bunch of window lickers. Sometimes manual systems beat automated ones hands down. Audit trails don't need to be physical for them to be used in legal disputes. All my investments are done over the web and I don't lose any sleep over their ownership. Is this OK Dave? You also have a PM.
  5. Will do. Convertibles are probably more useful as there's no height restriction if you want to fit a 50" telly in it and are far more stable than a 3 wheeler. That might be why Tony Pond rallied one rather than an invacare, although it was a TR7V8 at first. I wonder how that was recorded by the DVLA? LOL
  6. Obviously it's finally broken RED5 despite him having an iron constitution and he's sold it. Alternatively he could have written it off trying to establish its top speed and it's gone to the scrappers. I imagine it'd be pretty unstable at 82mph and if the tyres were old he might have had a blow out. I hope that he's OK and also your insurance covered him, all the policies I've seen exclude speed trials etc.. Anyway it'd solve your quandary as to whether to buy a Kangoo, Berlingo or whatever.
  7. I'm sure somewhere someone could tell me what they believe the exact spec is, just as I'm sure someone else would say something different. I guess because they're enthusiasts rather than fanatics. Regarding the tyre the factory has been demolished and have you seen the price of Triumph air? It makes Lucas smoke seem cheap. I shall plough my own furrow and if that means pins being stuck into a voodoo doll representing me sobeit.
  8. Just to add to that does anyone know of a good TR8 convertible for sale? The missus has just had a new summerhouse built and part of the deal was an additional 'toy' car for me. I've always wanted one since seeing the review of a US Spec TR8 in Car Magazine as part of the pre launch publicity . Incidentally TR7 V8s are fine, I'm not a purist hung up on things like correct chassis numbers etc. and there wouldn't be any issues as to whether the carb should have a 2 or 3 in the 5th position of its name.
  9. Sorry for the tardy response. I know that people hate MGBs but so what, my issue was with LBF 'knowing' how MGB owners felt. Even though I've owned mine for 40+ years its not part of my identity, people are entitled to their own views. It's like me making assumptions about people who like buses, my only interest in them is are they on time? Just for 'interest' regarding MG/Triumph rivalry I'm looking out for a TR8 convertible to add to my small fleet of cars.
  10. That's nonsense, sadly. How many MGB owners do you actually know? There's at least 4 just on TDW that I know of and no comments about their cars being hated. LOL
  11. It wasn't the speed, the roads were very 'bendy' so we didn’t go very fast. It felt very unstable so I suspect the 3 wheelyness and short wheelbase, it felt like it was going to tip over at even low speeds like what happened at 10mph at the FoD. This was in a 'car' with a steering wheel that was virtually brand new not dragged from a field
  12. The Outspan Oranges were apparently based on Minis. There were 3 of them parked in a yard on Berkhamsted High Street for many years and they never seemed to move.
  13. I had a lift in one once to a country pub, one of the Upper 6th got it for his birthday. Going down narrow country lanes was terrifying so I cadged a lift back in a knackered Land Rover.
  14. Given the protruding bonnet catches and what appears to be a lip around it I'd expect them to significantly impact the smoothness of the airflow. Things like protruding front indicators and a wing mirror won't help either. A few million quid sent in Porsches direction might help speed wise but stability is probably another issue, it'd probably do a Mark Webber. https://youtu.be/ZXZaAuyuYmQ?si=d3VvcC2Y4glwNiwn
  15. I'm not certain if this makes sense but I'm sure someone will say if it doesn't. Won't a trike have a larger frontal area and worse Cd as with a normal car the air coming from the front only 'sees' 2 wheels, the rear pair being behind the front ones? With a trike you'll have 3 along with additional suspension and steering in the airflow.
  16. Even though it's a higher speed than the max shown on the speedo if the speedometers are as accurate as said you could surely extrapolate a few extra mph, it's hardly likely to suddenly go logarithmic from linear is it?
  17. It's a long time since I lived near Tring but suspect that I'd turn off the A41 towards Ashridge, assuming the FoD is Buckingham way. Mind you I'm not certain how an invacare would stand up to being hit by a deer as the ones there can just run out of the trees by the side of the road.
  18. Given that a lot of publicity was given to the Audi 100s 0.30 Cd and Sierras 0.34(?) I personally think 0.34 is too low, especially given the age and type of car. Even a 635CSi of that era was 0.40, OK the nose inclination wouldn't have helped but it wouldn't make a massive difference in my opinion. Even an early Golf was 0.43 apparently. Obviously these are just Cds and take no account of the frontal area.
  19. The front end lift on a MGB is cured by a front spoiler like the BL ST one, at least for the convertible. I never had wheel vibrations with mine except when the wheels needed balancing. With that 4,000 rpm, about 90mph with overdrive engaged, is comfortable with no oil pressure issues, although I wouldn't do it now with modern traffic.
  20. That was an indicated 100* and at that time, the early 80s, the A1 was peppered with roundabouts so the engine got a regular break. Having an expensive Pioneer component hifi also helped with the noise. * I'm sure that it wasn't as accurate as invacare ones are supposed to be and was well before GPS was freely available.
