You're not wrong, but she has enjoyed a trip on the train.
Collection has been achieved - it's a cheap old bus but there is plenty of work to be done so , it needed to be really.

I guess that's why I'm here and have no presence on any other motoring websites.

I think that's what made it even worse.
The Metro looked like your grans shopping car and the Corsa was all modern and funky.
Until you drove them and it was the other way around.

    PD engines are dogshite.
Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, hear me out:
Shit design - injector bore wear and camshaft wear.
Refinement? Ha! Noisy pieces of shite. At least Ford were coming out with the 1.8 TDCI, and Vauxhall with the 1.7 CDTI ... Oh wait ... 🫣
My point is that they do not deserve being referred to as bulletproof because they really are not.
There are the "good" engine codes, such as the AWX 130, but it still suffers from the normal PD foibles..
Yes they have their good points as well, I know, but this is a thread for unpopular opinions so here's mine

Fiat's are actually very reliable and tough cars which don't really rust.
There is so much crap talked about the K Series engine. The OMGHGF is caused by poor maintenence or misdiagnosis.and the "cures" are bolox.
BMWs are dangerous twitchy poor handling over rated piles of crap.
    VTEC is shit.
    Sierra Cosworths are shite.
As Saab used to say. 250BHP is the max for FWD cars.

    I have a few belters....
The Mk1 Focus is overrated. It just came at what had been a bit of a low point for Ford in that sector with the Escort, and was so bold design wise that the improvements it brought was overhyped.
Don't get me wrong, decent car, but fuck me, all this talk about how incredible they are to drive is bizarre.
Nice, certainly up at the sharp end for its class at the time, but does nothing outstandingly. You'd think it moved the game on lightyears, it didn't. It wasn't even the best handling car in the class around that generation. The Peugeot 306 (actually from a generation before the Focus) was. And it had a better ride to boot. The Focus was always just that little bit too firm at low speed. It was sharp, but really wasn't much beyond standard FWD fare.
And the engines were... largely, garbage. The 1.4 petrol was a boat anchor. The 1.6 was better but ran out of puff too readily for the revvy nature, the 1.8 was quite flat at low RPM and too thirsty around town. The original Diesel was the 1.8 td, again, outdated and too agricultural. Miles and miles off the French and VW offerings of the time.

    That's absolute bollocks 🤣
I too had both when brand new, the Escort was about as dynamic as a house brick (or mk4 golf) whereas the 306 had great feel and balance.

"Do not open the sunroof" the seller said. In fact, he said it twice. "I wonder why he said that?" I thought to myself as I opened the sunroof. The sunroof appeared to work just fine. It slid open all the way without a hitch. "Amazing!" I thought to myself. "If only it closed as well". Because it did not. Not even a little bit.

I wasn't too worried. The same thing happened on the W124, and while I maybe shouldn't have tried it out at 4pm on a damp November afternoon, I remembered the peculiar phrase in the W124's handbook. "A hexagon is provided". Behind a flap in the boot, there is a plastic hexagon designed to wind the sunroof closed with the wheelbrace. Of course, the 30 year old plastic shattered the moment this was attempted on the 300D, and sure enough the same thing happened on the 190.

So, just like last time, I got to spend half an hour edging the roof closed millimetre by millimetre, which was agonising. When I got it about 50% closed, I decided to see if the motor had enough puff to drag it home. Imagine my delight when the close button inexplicably caused the roof to rocket completely open again. Ah well, I'd say lesson learnt, but the fact I was doing this the second time in my life would suggest that the lesson was not learnt.
At least it had stopped breaking down every ten minutes!

It's been a successful month or so fleet wise here. Both the Caravelle and the roffleCLK are Motd and legal for another year. The ClK didn't need any work doing and sailed straight through which was very pleasing! I'll give that and my wife's picasso an oil change imminently. Will also treat it to a good clean this weekend as reward. Not the picasso though, it's too full of family detritus for me to go near.
The Caravelle has been superb for family outings and has been our tour bus for the band to Devon twice, Swansea and Bristol. It's been full of 8 people, drum kit and various equipment along my trumpet and the rest of the horn section.
I will do a thread over the weekend of our exploits, if nothing else maybe some shiters could come along to a gig to say hi and see the Dub Bus in action. (The band is called Dub Catalyst.)
I need to have a serious think about whether to keep the CLK or move it on now, it is costly in fuel but a bloody lovely thing waft/ hoof around.

Also I got the camper running again, gave it a good clean and a good look over. Maybe my outlook has improved but the jobs somehow seem achievable whereas a year a go it felt insurmountable and like a bit of a weight on my shoulders.

Spannering time has been severely limited with the increase in performing work with a(nother) new band. Not sure if there's a place to share our progress on here or even if there's any appetite for it but it has been a busy summer playing lots of festivals. We have started to be rebooked for the same festivals next year but main stage and an improved fee! Very exciting for me anyway!

Would definitely be interested in your band’s exploits. If no other thread is suitable, just start a new one in the Open Forums section.
Glad the work on the camper seems less daunting now.
