About twenty years ago,some borderline crackheads a few doors down from me had a 205 1.9 GTI sitting on their driveway with fairly bad osr quarter damage. A mate of mine bought it against all available advice. When he turned up to pick it up,they were trying to knock the worst of the dent out from inside.
With a fucking brick. Seriously. I lost contact with him shortly afterwards but it didn't surprise me to see it in a scrapyard in Exhall about two years later looking even worse.

About 20 years ago I was tasked with driving the lovely Miss Messenger and newsreader Jan Leeming to their homes after a Ball in The Dorchester. Both were very very drunk  and the conversation was quite bawdy as both had just got divorced and we’re having a ‘ dry spell’ Only one of them propositioned me when helping her into the house.
Clue, if it had been Melinda, I wouldn’t have run away !
To keep this on topic, £7000 for a feckin Metro that needs welding and an engine rebuild, Id have to be even more spectacularly drunk than they were.

My new 240 Torslanda arrived on Saturday morning, I'm still questioning why I bought it though?! 





Probably not one of my wisest purchases! It was a bit rustier than I expected but to be fair to it the car starts and runs absolutely spot on and sounds great. 
It seems that it was owned by the last owner from 2004 until last November when it was moted having been unused for a year and then promptly crash and ended up with banger racers who raffled it off and a chap I know won it and has had it in his garden since. 

I gave it a pressure wash and a very quick mop and the paint came up so I got it in the garage and started stripping the damaged bits off



Which was pretty straightforwards, it's all mostly superficial but the hard part now will be finding the correct parts without spending too much

I did give the side a quick mop this afternoon to motivate me and it came up looking well so it's got potential, I'm not sure if the alleged 49000 miles is genuine or not but I wouldn't be surprised. As a bonus I also managed to get the radio code from the main dealer too!

Something something Audi A3 something something.

The axles are quite fragile, frequently you find them bent. I think I’m missing the Countach and the Volvo 480. The Rover Sterling seems a scarce one as well, the one in the picture I can remember my Grandfather taking me to the paper shop near us and it was in one of those display cabinets and picking it out. Memories eh!
I like the Roadblasters but finding them with the plastic armaments still in place is difficult.

Hat trick! This one might take some explaining - many years ago, pictures hit the interwebz of a baja bug in Japan - but slammed on its pan rather than high in the sky as is usual with these off-road bugs. People lost their shit over this car and it's always stuck in my mind

So it had to be a bugeye with a sunroof - two castings I owned had this, the Matchbox 

Unfortunately the rear arches are too flat, and the base extends up the sides.. so the only choice was Maisto

I had a rough one in the project box, had to throw the base away and chop some bits up to get it low and cambered...

Paint is Vauxhall diamond black which has multi colour sparkles in it, of course the camera struggles to capture it

Mileage milestone passed.

150 miles done since MOT. So far, the dash lights stopped working, then fixed themselves.  The dimmer switch is the culprit here, I can try cleaning it up, or just bypass it if necessary. I lost most of my gears this morning, just needed to tighten the selector rod pinch bolt though. Apart from those small hiccups, it's been fine. I'll go round the car checking all nuts and bolts are tight next week, just in case anything is planning to fall off.
