  1. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/999118181515295/ Talbot Matra Murena? 3 seats in the front. good looking for its age. A new one one me! Very local to me if anyone is keen.
  2. Literally every forum or group based on a collective interest is clicky - with very few (dare I say, no) exceptions. Autoshite isn't immune. There are plenty of good people here who just let people get on with their builds / cars / stuff and contribute where they want to. if they don't like something they'll just not comment and move on with their lives - but there is an equal amount of people that will endlessly push their view of what is right and cry bloody murder when they see any car on non standard wheels because OmG iTs RuInEd 4eVa HaLp PrIsOn PlS and its tiresome. Everywhere is like it. Humans are generally a bit crappy. There is a reason I don't have an Autoshite sticker on any of my cars, and its the same reason I'm not an active member of any clubs, groups, owners clubs, communities - as they're all clicky and hierarchical. It's pathetic. The whole car scene is, always has been and always will be a massive dick swinging and pissing contest. The whole human race is built that way. It's why I just started buying cars I like and doing shit in my own time because I got fed up of every tom dick and harry commenting on how they'd do it differently. I just want to share an interest with like minded people, not be berated for it. I generally share my car escapades with a couple close friends and my other half as I know they'll be respectful of whatever I'm doing - and that's what I want. I also put stuff on here as I mostly get the same. People can't just live by the "if you have nothing nice to say, move on" rule because MuH FrEe SpEeCh. Free speech is freedom to *say* anything - not immunity to the ramifications of what you've said. Long story short - AS is a very loosely formed car club. All car clubs are full of some amount of clicky "senior" members who have a hard on for their own views as they've been a member for X time and that miniscule amount of respect goes to their head and eclipses their ability to not be a knobhead. If anyone is on a car forum and has a problem with people posting about a car - maybe they need to get a grip, sort their control issues, go sit in the bath and have a magnum. Relax. It's just a website.
  3. Genuinely hilarious. My condolences for your slaving away in the mines while others scrounge from your sweat and tears living the high life while your family suffer. Mods should make a sticky, if any member ever put anything that isn't cold hard cash earned with good ol' graft into your car you will be immediately forced to scrap it and have to pay any proceeds as reparations directly to @chancer for profiting off of his years of dedication.
  4. The best use of anyone's money, benefit obtained or not - is whatever they want to use it on. If you're getting riled about what someone else spends their money in you probably need to go outside and touch some grass. Or go-to the wasteland that is the political subforum. Who are you to tell people they need to better themselves and give them "encouragement" in the form of thinly veiled passive aggression and judgement? Who is anyone to decide what anyone's best self looks like? Find it weird that the first post was removed but the quote wasn't nor the rest of the discussion. Weird moderation standards. *Our* expense? Please don't group me in with whatever Daily Mail readers I assume you're referencing. I have no issue with people spending their money, earned in whatever means, on whatever they like. Because it's their choice. If you are personally offended at someone else doing what they like with your "hard earned tax money, them bloody scroungers" - maybe being active in political circles to effect change is a better use of time then just harassing people online in a fit of self pity. Or - just realise you aren't the only hard done by person in the world and you don't control everything. ANYHOW Back to talking about Invacars and / or lightbulbs. Because that's what's important in this thread.
  5. Makes no difference to me what you say - but calling out and going on weird pointed rants to other members for enjoying themselves and sharing it because want to share that passion with others, all because your life isn't how you want it is not okay. Seriously - talk to someone. You really don't seem very well - and its okay, life is fucking shit sometimes - I understand. I do. But being this angry at everyone else isn't the answer.
  6. Get therapy. You're projecting your issues hard. Again - I sympathise - but it's not anyone's fault. It's not down to you to decide what benefits society. Christ.
  7. Get a grip on yourself. You have zero idea how hard anyone else works on this forum. Stop pushing your anger onto others - it's not healthy. It seems like you're going through some stuff - and I hope it gets better - but this isn't the outlet for it, or the way to deal with it.
  8. Going from Rotherham > Kent tomorrow evening and returning Sunday sometime - in a Citroen Berlingo so plenty space for stuff.
  9. Disagree - there are people who will buy all sorts of stuff - and the following for rat look/cars like this is actually pretty big. Even if it does narrow it - that's a very odd reason to not do something. That's like not driving your sports car hard to save the tyres for the next person. Cars are made to be used however is seen fit, not coddled. I'm somewhat unsure - I know the person who I sold it to had something hit the windowscreen and it smashed. As the insurance couldn't find a replacement - it got written off (shame he didn't ask me as I knew where 2 were, for free..). It then went to copart where it sold and ended up with a chap in Manchester who actually contacted me on Instagram - letting me know he had it and planned to fully restore it. He is originally from Iran I believe which of course has a large following of these in the form of Paykans - almost like their "peoples car". Since then I've seen it in a few instagram posts but it's gone silent over the past year or two. He's restore 2 others in that time, one that obtained a red front wing before being re-painted in a lovely yellow. I think what may have happened is that my one was used for spares to keep the others alive, which is fair enough as it was far from the best example. I have asked him - but heard nothing back. For those who were interested in what it looked like: Was a proper fun little thing. Many memories made. Totally agreed. This is another thing that winds me up, everyone who is quick to jump on the don't scrap it or that owner has ruined it forever what a twat train - are often the same ones that have followed it's journey including when it came up for sale - if is that critical to you that it stays exactly how it left the factor - feel free to stump up your own cash and buy it when the chance arises. Don't just sit back and watch it get sold then complain about it when someone tries to enjoy themselves. I don't get the general issue with rat look either - some of it looks pretty decent. Unpopular opinion city, population me; I know. Yes, some of it isn't to my taste, but it's not my car so... as @dollywobbler said - it wasn't exactly a spring chicken when sold so it's arguably in a better place than it was. I didn't - sadly. Made one on Retrorides but there isn't a whole lot in it. I didn't mean to derail the thread - but attitudes like that are what nearly put me off of enjoying cars altogether for a good while - and it was only when I stopped actually caring what people said and stopped going to shows that I managed to find my enjoyment in it again. It's just sad to see it happening on here all too frequently. This says it well
  10. Even if it's not direct hate - it's still not conducive to a community or general good feeling. It makes us all seem like judgemental purists. I had a Hillman Hunter that was a mishmash of parts and not very standard looking / ratty a few years ago - ended up selling it - and a large part of that decision was because every single show or meet I went to try to share specific passion or interest with like minded people - I was asked if I'm putting it back to standard, told it wasn't the factory paint colour, told that it was ruined and I should be restoring it to whatever former glory their rose tinted glasses remembered. Really put me right off of the car scene and is the reason I'm not active part of any official clubs as everyone just wants to gatekeep and chat shit about others with their mates in their own little clique. People just need to mind their own business and stop judging people. It's just a fucking car. Let people enjoy things.
  11. I say this as a fellow BX licker who owns an estate and a hatchback - and loves them both very much... Stop demonizing anyone who changes a car from anything but original. It's still alive and on the road - that's the thing to keep in mind - and it may not have been without the person you're so quick to judge. What someone does with their own car is entirely up to them. You don't have to like it. There is an arguably diminishing number of people who are interested in keeping old shite alive and in use. Attitudes like this are part of the reason. Stop gatekeeping.
  12. I did indeed - the garage did sweet FA - and it did solve it for a few weeks and I was chuffed - but it came back eventually. Although I didn't clean up the callipers as much. I noticed also that when it is squealing if you put your foot lightly on the pedal so it *just* chirps and hold it steady - it'll do it intermittently (rotationally?) so I did wonder if it was a slightly warped disk - but I couldn't consistently reproduce that either! Fingers crossed for you. And yes, the squealing is very much more of a screeching and really can be heard for a considerable distance. Not fun to drive.
  13. Brilliant - thank you. I appreciate it's not your fault on the communication front. You just happen to be the messenger in this scenario. I figured that it was probably a hosting / support provider shirking their responsibility - tale as old as time. Look forward to progress and best of luck!
  14. As another person who has worked in IT for a number of years (one of many on the forum, no doubt) happy to lend a helping hand if needed with reviewing logs, migration to a new platform/solution or just brainstorming solutions. I understand that issues can be complex and vast - but as @SiC and @Nyphur have alluded to; hosting a public facing forum isn't exactly breaking new ground in 2023. Any issues should be able to be fairly easily investigated and resolved with the right people and support - and saying "It's an old car forum so it's like an allegro hurr hurr" really isn't true. If it's the hosting provider that's causing the delays/not giving support, start the process of moving away from them. Backup all current data, get a migration plan in place, find a new provider and plan some downtime. If you want to change platforms - build the new platform the way you want it in a new environment and then setup a plan to migrate to it. If it's something more complex, share the issue or give any update of any kind to help people understand what is going on - don't just have radio silence while a site that a lot of people love goes dark 2 - 4 times a day, every day. It's quite disheartening. There are people here who can help, and those who can't still deserve some level of communication.
  15. @PaykanHunter will this be released? It's been >1Y now since the teasers.....
  16. Just relaised after moving it forward to get another car on the drive that it is also piddling LHM near the end of both sills. Curious. Need to have a look at that. Noticed a car wash near me (cash only forecourt dealer type) has a 4 poster lift in their converted petrol forecourt - half tempted to ask if I can borrow / rent it to make my life easier. Equally I could just shift the other one and get this in the garage. But it has a pinhole leak from the pipe from the fuel pump to the first injector. Is this just a normal bit of fuel piping with a fancy material cover? I'm sure I could just patch it to get it out without pissing diesel.
  17. And put the £910 you save towards dog food / toys
  18. It looks to be, fingers crossed, entirely localised to here: So a new octopus return loom (I believe) would solve it, £132 from Chevronics and some jiggery pokery. I said I'd update, and update I shall...incoming picture spam. Was delivered in the pouring rain - but that did give it a bit of a jet wash being trailered on the M1 on the way over. Shout out to @Inspector Morose for parking the trailer just ahead of a drain in the road when he arrived so all of the LHM spilling out was washed right into it to keep my neighbours happy - now that is service. You know it's a BX when the storage tray looks like this: Ah yes. I'm home. Taking a closer look, it was certainly showing that it had been laid up a while in the form of....well being grimy. Armed with my good friend Henry (hoover) - he made short work of that: Interior is very good condition, really. Clearly had kids in it at some point who have melted nice circles in the dash above the cigar lighter with it, and a few woody stickers on the back of one of the seats. All adds to the charm. I also found a rather odd looking nest-esque parcel of foam and little chewed bits of other stuff under the rear passenger bench. Sadly the hoover sucked it up before I could get a picture - but the it certainly couldn't suck up it's ex-inhabitant... Spoiler alert - gross Yep - a stowaway. Poor little thing, but long since dead. Sadly mice tend to need to urinate, which means that that side of the foam was rather pungent. Got as much out as I could at the time - but I'll need to get some gloves on and probably gut all of the insulation under the rear bench just to be sure as it certainly smells better - but certainly still smells like rat piss from a ft away. Now to the outside - again - pretty dusty even after it's wash on the way So I grabbed the pressure washer and some random AA wash and wax stuff, a big ol bucket and a wash mitt and got to work I actually went over it once with a bucket of water/wash and wax (after an initial pressure wash), then rinsed it, then went over it with the lance, rinsed it again, then again with the lance as it was pretty dirty, rinsed then dried. Caution - arousing when wet: All dried off and smelling....better: OOOOH SHES PURDY. Colour really pops, subtle but bright. I really like it - and the pinstripe. Not even that rusty either...certainly solid enough from a few heavy taps, underneath is pretty clean. Hopefully enough for the MOT tester to not want to stab it with a hammer to see what falls off. Some moody night shots to finish (it needs a rear bulb, rear foglight bulb, sidelight bulb and....that's it, impressive.) It also oddly has this on both the front and rear plate: @Stinkwheel didn't know why either. I'm assuming that Denise is the car and the little fossil rodent I found was one of da boyz - so I think this car has now naturally been named Denise. Fitting. Side note, are the front seats made for people who are very, very relaxed? Both of them only seem to adjust the back far enough forward to be vaugley close to the dash - still too laid back to comfortably or safely drive for me. Seems broken - but they both stop at the same point so maybe I just need to relax more and get with the vibe of being an antique dealer.
  19. What's better than one BX you don't have time to work on? Two, obviously. This one is a is a bit rough and ready (but isn't my other BX, too?) - has been asleep for 6/7 years in a unit. Genuine barn find dust included. Needs a new clutch and a few other little bits but rust wise is surprisingly solid, and it stops, goes, sinks and rises (albeit with a bit of an LHM urination at the same time). The plan is to get it up to an MOT'able standard and give it a wipe over with an oily rag, then it'll replace the Berlingo for daily duties and general running around in/tip runs as it's bloomin massive - A car I don't have to worry about denting that is cool as hell. It even has power steering and comfy seats with bolstering. Very posh indeed. I've always wanted an estate - very much a bit of a dream car moment right now. Huge, massive, galaxy sized thanks to @Stinkwheel for offering this gratis on the forum and being helpful every step of the way, and to @worldofceri / @Inspector Morose for a first class transport service as always. More pictures to come, gave it a very good hoover this evening now it's stopped hammering it down with rain and the interior is lovely. It's clearly been used as a family car and has a hell of a lot of character about it. Rest assured it's going to be put back into use and serve it's purpose.
  20. I know of one - I've sent it to him.
