  1. A Skoda Superb "Edition 100", I still shudder thinking of the fucking thing. It was five metres of stretched B5 Pisshat shite. Very top spec, had EVERY toy you could imagine in circa 2004. Interior was a lovely place to be and the seats were very comfy, that's where the good news ends. It suffered from chronic water ingress which I was constantly chasing, seemed like I fixed one leak and it came in somewhere else. As a result the body electrics had a mind of their own. The rust was pretty dire for a reasonably young car at the time, the bootlid and front wings dissolved rapidly. The front end suspension was a knockfest. After a few months I'd replaced absolutely everything including wheel bearings and it was fine for about two weeks, then it started again. It burst about 4 coil springs in the space of six months. The ungrateful cunt got some other works including some rear bushes. About six months after I bought it, it lunched it's reverse gear entirely, a forwards only motor from this point. I sold it to Arnold Clark, their thorough test drive consisted of one forwards lap round their car park. I bit their hand off for the sum offered, turned tail and got the fuck out of there. In hindsight I persevered with it far too long, I'd cut my losses far earlier now. It's fine though, the interior didn't rattle. VAG quality*.
  2. Cunts. Shame trolley jacks don't fail more often. What's it like where the cars are parked? Must have made a fair noise.
  3. You have my sympathy. Just along the road from there you can still see a very faded Talbot advert on the railway bridge.
  4. No problem, it was £950. Thought that was very fair for a well sorted example. I suspect what they're asking and what they're getting are quite different in this case.
  5. I've snaffled this little beauty as my new everyday car. It is currently c/o @sdkrc's car park until I make space. It's a 2.0 L series Turbo Diesel. iXL trim so has (inop) AC and quite a nicely appointed interior. The previous owner was a very fastidious enthusiast as you can see so in the last 18 months and 200 miles it has had all sorts; Full exhaust Timing and pump belt kits All rear suspension bushes, front ball joints. Four new tyres Injection pump Injectors Front calipers, discs and pads Full MOT til August 23 Does mean the BMW is for the chop sadly, which is a bit silly as it's been a great car in the 4k miles or so since I got it. Have improved it a bit with new rear springs, shocks and top mounts, both engine mounts (a fucking ballache), four new tyres, number plates and £110 worth of battery. It also has ice cold AC which I may regret selling on... Can't keep them all though. I'll do a proper for sale advert in the next day or two. Any street cred I had gone in one fell swoop.
  6. It wasn't scrapped as such, sold to a well known auction/salvage mob as a going concern. Got decent money for it that way and was zero hassle. I had hundreds of Gumtree messages, but I didn't want many of them knowing where my collection of catalytic converters lived.
  7. Bit of progress on the fleet. The Z4 I'd bought had a nasty knock from the OSF. Sounded classic ARB noise. Swapped over the drop links to no avail. ARB bushes next as one looked well worn and indeed was; Double pisser though, as the knock was still there and I also noticed it looks like the sump gasket is leaking, which involves dropping the subframe to replace; Cleaned that up and will keep an eye on it. Next I suspected something strut related, spring, shock, top mount etc. I managed to get the strut out in no time at all; And indeed, the top mount is absolutely shagged. I've got a replacement strut coming to go in. Bit annoying as I could have just swapped the top mount, but it saves me risking decapitation by spring compressor. This ungrateful fucker also left. Don't think I'd have another;
  8. Go onto the gov.uk MOT history checker, put in reg and look up as normal. You'll see a link next to each MOT saying "view test location", you'll need the reference number from your V5. Pop that in and it reveals the address of each test and you can also view the actual certificate.
  9. Went out to the car boot sale on Sunday morning looking for a strimmer. Day took an unexpected turn when @cort16(a VERY bad man) sent me a BMW Z4 with test til March and a fucked roof for £1150. Fucks sakes. Eventually got the seller and headed over for a look, of course I bought it. Pretty horrible knocking from the front end, one key and it's done 188k with zero history. I offered £950 and it was accepted. Closest thing I got to a pez shot; Blissfully, the AC is ice cold. Apart from the clonk from the front it drives fine. Ordered a set of drop links as a hopeful first step, but while I'm doing them I'll give everything a good pry anyway. Just seemed worth having them on hand, they fit the E46 if not. I managed to get the roof up and down manually first of all, then with some foutering got it going up on the buttons, but the pump seems too weak to pull it down itself. Will pull the pump out and do some diagnostics. Worst case a new one is about £120. Although bought in Scotland, looking at the MOT history online it has spent most of its life in the South East of England. Result. At first inspection it looks to be free of any serious corrosion although I'll not get ahead of myself on that front. Gave it a very quick wash and took it a spin last night. It certainly doesn't look like a £950 car. It leaves me with a headache, I have far, far too much scrap lying about. Current fleet in order of length of service; RX300 LS400 Kangoo Van 320D Touring 206 GTi Z4 At least three too many. RX is going to be listed for sale very shortly with short test. I'll probably put it on here at a healthy discount on the off chance anyone is interested.
  10. Coffee was small but very pleasant. A good 7.5/10. Had to get back to work sadly, so couldn't fully avail myself of the facilities.
  11. The BMW went to the dealer for a recall. New drivers airbag required. Apparently there was a manufacturing defect where upon detonation it can embed some nice shrapnel in one's visage. About 20 different folk milling about. Two lassies on the reception gabbing shite. Various salesmen milling about frantically chewing and clicking pens before their next line in the bogs. One very helpful lady on the service counter frantically trying to check in a queue of folk with no help, the only bit of the site with any customers. Anyway, they carried out a "health check" while it was in; Hmm, rear washer gubbed. Pretty sure it was working. Anyway, what would be the damage; No thanks squire. Picked it up and checked when I got home. Not sure what my £162 would have been for; VID20220714171015~2.mp4
  12. I've never really had the luxury of a workshop at home. Moved house earlier in this year, but the shed was in a state. It seems a good quality structure but the roof was quite incontinent. Spent Saturday re-felting it with a hand from my dad. It was all in good order underneath and a few hours later it was looking better; Had been on the lookout for a tool chest and spotted the ideal one on Gumtree as part of a job lot. £100 for the tool chest(s), a trolley jack, some axle stands, shelves and a small selection of tools, a couple of bits were actually quite handy, namely a quality pair of side cutter pliers. The seller was a mechanic to trade and had some serious machinery. An Audi RS4, Impreza and a beautiful e46 330i. Gave me a good look round them which was interesting, a bit of money in them tubs. Bundled the lot into the trusty 3 series of doom. The main event; A bit of organisation finally; With the tool box in place I decided to sort out the rest of the shed, it was a bombsite with shit piled up to the roof and a healthy spider habitat. I had a big offcut of worktop and used it to build a usefully sized workbench. After a lot of tidying and graft it's looking well;
  13. Not a great deal of car related action of late. BMW was to undertake a 600 mile round trip to North Wales a few weeks back. Decided to change the shocks, having already done the springs. It wasn't a great job, but wasn't the worst. Just required a lot of disassembly of the boot area to access the top mounts. Buy my book of sketchy lifting tecniques; Worth it though, the passenger's side was shagged. Two new Meyles on. It also got a new battery, the current Exide one was going flat overnight with no obvious parasitic drain. Other than that it completed it's 600 miles without fuss and averaged 49.9mpg over the tank. Conwy is nice and worth a look, maybe for anyone heading to Shitefest.
  14. So the ex @Grumblespeed206 GTi had been making a hideous clonk (As advertised btw!). Jacked it up and only play I could find was on the rearmost bush of the boomerang shaped suspension arm, not hideous but probably enough. Febi arm acquired from eBay. Figured a decent one was worthwhile as it doesn't look like a job you'd want to do twice and it certainly panned out that way. Razzed the old one out in jig time yesterday afternoon, "refitting is the reverse of removal".... My hole. Got the arm in, but getting the ball joint lined up and in was a serious war. Jack's, ratchet straps, hammers and pry bars were to no avail and in the process I had inadvertently separated the inner CV joint. Definite two man job, luckily @cort16offered help and arrived in the 7 series of assistance. Getting it lined up required force on three axis at the same time and a lot of trial and error, but we got there eventually. I had disconnected the ARB and Track Rod End, so today's war was with a very awkwardly placed top nut for the drop link. Working with an inverted mini angle grinder I eventually managed to get it off. Replaced with a new drop link. Everything else was easy enough buttoned back up. Took it for a spin and the moment of truth.... horrible cloning gone, success. I actually recall doing one of these on a mates 206 maybe 10 years ago, but the ball joint was nothing like as difficult as that. Not sure if to do with sporty versions geometry or what, but it was a battle and a half. Celebratory wrong French shot; Now to worry about the knackered sill and the rear beam. Fortunately with 6 months test I can take time to feel the car out and see how much it's worth putting into it.
  15. Got home just before 3pm, so not bad going really. Will post a bit of an update later, but really happy with the car. Just as described. Good to meet you @Grumblespeed (And Getto the cat). Thanks again to @loserone and @Jimbob McGregor for the enabling efforts, much appreciated. I couldn't complete acts of such stupidity without you.
  16. Smol fiat #2, picked up from Doncaster North services.
  17. Making good progress here; On the A1(M) approaching Wetherby.
  18. Up bright* and early. Today's lift awaits; I was kindly hosted by @Jimbob McGregorand he is being a top tier enabler by taking me further South this morning. He is en route to nearly France to collect a spectacular taxidermy animal, but I'll leave that up to him to reveal.
  19. This, is indeed the answer. Pit stop achieved. 5:30am start so best get some kip. Dusters gonna dust; VID20220604225623.mp4
  20. My onward lift awaits, courtesy of @loserone
