Some fine examples of the sun damage cars get here.  Something about the hole In the ozone layer.  And yet nobody worries about it - I would expect 2k clear coat to be in great demand but isn’t.
Swede with sun damage.  Lakkerpil as it is known in Ikea (next to the Besta cabinets)

Corolla.  Where we’re going, we don’t need topcoat

Yaris.  Or Vitz.  Or Echo.  Lots of Japanese imports.  Clear coat obviously not specified with this one.

Colin MacRae didn’t even have to crash this Impreza into a gully to implement this damage

Verdict?  Bring a DA polisher if moving over here.  And actually thinking about bidding on that Corolla as the rest of it is peachy.  And with knackered paint its A great opportunity to do a hand painting tutorial

So, this seems to have happened today

    Bit posh like...

...and because obvs nobody really wants a car with a working engine, it came with two, neither of which actually operate in an engine stylee. He said something about the head gasket has gone on the 'main' engine...

    It'd be ace with a GT750 engine and a Piper 3-1.

While I have had many stops by the police (although not this millennium) the number of times they have been a bit arsey is outweighed massively by the number of times they have said things like 'we'll put you down as doing 76' or 'OK, but get that fixed ASAP' and let me go.
It's a tough old job, they are human, some of them are wankers, some have bad days, but most are just trying to do their job like all of us.

When I was 19 or so I drove a wreck of a Mk1 Ford Ka.  My parents garage joined onto a lot of rented garages and we rented one of them for my car.  Coming home at midnight-ish from college one day (I'd been running sound for an evening show) a Police car with two youngish coppers followed me for a good half mile, turned into the garages with me and then decided to block me off my parking their car directly behind my garage.  Probably presuming I was a dealer or similar and looking for an easy collar.
I got out.  'Hello Officer, is there anything I can help you with?'  Well, as anybody that has met me knows, my voice matches my posh upbringing and I don't sound like I'm from the rough end of Northfleet.  This surprised them.  'Erm.  Yes.  Erm.  Well.  Erm.  Yes.  Your light there is smashed'.  'Yes.  I know.  It's a foglight and as I'm sure you know, it's not a legal requirement.' 'Ok.  Thank you.'
    And they just drove off.
I laughed like a drain for a full minute afterwards.  It was the look of disappointment on their faces when I first opened my mouth that did it.

Its shit like that which makes me charge nothing for looking at broken vacuums for people. Amount of blatently poor people who ro k up with an inherited dyson that's got a simple fault, cakking themselves that I'll charge a fortune, asking to be informed ASAP of the cost etc
Can feel their relief when I say £30 and job done to them, I save the £100 refurbs for the people who tell me their cleaner had broken said vacuum etc...
Unexpected £95 bill would leave me begging to mummy, and I know their sorting their finances so they can survive until they die so would feel bad about that.

Bet when you change the pads next their a shitter brand than you had to fit...

in driving lesson news with lockdown 2.0 coming to an end I have managed to book another driving lesson for the 10th
looking forward to having lessons again, and continuing to see how the new instructor plays out  (as I only had one lesson with the new instructor then lockdown 2.0 happened putting the brakes on everything again, although as some may recall, said lesson did go very well so im hopeful thing will continue to do so)

    yay colourful lights ftw
but it needs more C7/C9 christmas lights man  heres my 2 strings I finally put up again after 6 years (I last had em up in Dec 2014 when I first got them, then ran out of spare bulbs so never put em up again until recently when I finally bit the bullet and bought some more spares)

real shame we never got these in 240V land, well we did about 60 years ago in C6 form but sadly never in any sort of bulbs in parallel form, I have such a British "C6" set very kindly given to me by @egg but im not prepared to bankrupt myself buying new bulbs for that just yet LOL, but it is fun posting pictures of it and confuse US folk because it has 12 bulbs instead of 6

these are only C7's, I did look at at how much it would cost to import a couple C9 sets+2 sets of spare bulbs for next year
but its so costly (mainly due to international shipping) that It would cost the same to go the whole hog and get a proper GLS lamp, festoon set because who does not enjoy 1000W worth of christmas lighting LOL

so I think if I can afford it next year thats what I think ill go for LOL

find another suitable 60V milk float motor, strap it to an XUD engine, install the lot in the bed of the float, connect the output of the now 60V Generator to the battery terminals in the float
and bam your very own diesel electric locomotive!

December 1st today. Opened the door to my Advent calendar (a picture of a candle ffs) and also opened the door to the Multipla seeing as its now taxed.
As you’ll see from page 1 of this thread, I like Japanese cars - I like German cars and I like saloon cars. I really respect engineering integrity and most of all value longevity. This is the absolute antithesis of my usual fodder. And yet, I love it. I fucking love it. And the more you try to hate it, the more it impresses. The wife - who cares not one whit for cars - is smitten. It is completely beguiling, despite its faults.
    Because if it’s faults, actually.
It has mismatched tyre sizes. It’s constantly steaming up like a Chinese takeaway. The drivers seat seems to have permanently engaged lumbar support and it spent the day trying to convince me it was -13 degrees. The radio is fucked and only plays a distorted, monophonic Radio 1. But it’s just so willing. It drives like a car, pulls like a train and looks like an emoji 🚙.
I’ve already found myself looking for a really good one, but it might turn out that I’ve already got one. Fingers crossed.

I bought a car. Rather unexpectedly to be honest.
With life being on semi permanent pause lately, I sold the van to Wuv and parked the Clio at my parents house. The Avensis, Sierra and Mini are all out of test so I’ve just been running around in my Mum’s Mercedes when I’ve actually had need to go out.
Then a decent enough opportunity presented itself, and I thought why the fuck not. There’s a reasonable amount of jeopardy here as it has 30 days MOT and is a 15 year old FIAT - but it’s from a decent chap on here who DID offer to MOT it and even gave it a little tickle to help it’s chances. I just can’t resist a (potential) bargain so took it as is.

First impressions? Err - well. It drives brilliantly. We picked it up in a MK2 Focus and I preferred this to drive. Nice and high up, good visibility and excellent torque. Rumour is this has been chipped and I’d say it’s running about 130bhp. It’s swift.
These poor things live a hard life, and get well and truly gigged. At 15 years old it’s cream crackered in places. Sticky, soft touch plastics are the bane of the bangernomicist. This has more gunge than Dick and Dom’s creamy muck muck factory. I will give them a bit of a working over, but I’m not getting involved with meths etc. The idea is it’s a temporary stop gap.
Here’s the weird thing. My wife really, really likes it. She’s never taken any interest in any of my old heaps. She openly admitted to liking it “far more than she thought and far more than she ought.” I guess this year has taught us all to make the best of what you have. Even if that is a high owner, dog eared, sticky old Fiat.

Right then, out of quarantine for two days and bought a Suzuki Swift Sport Automatic.  Mrs P loves it, so that’s job done.
Next up is to explore Oxford where I am currently based.  It makes Emmerdale look like the west end of London but some useful chod sitting about in fields - these are all within 200m of where I am staying

It’s nice.  70000kms which is bugger all.  Problem with transferring the cash to the seller but he trusted us and let us take the car without paying for it!  Can you imagine that happening in Essex?

Someone’s daily.  Their house appears to be Mr Trebus’s shed

Wouldn’t mind having a go at getting this running but there is a massive sheep watching me suspiciously....

Bye bye Miss American Pie, drove my Chevy to the Levee but the Levee was full of sheep

The kids nagged me after work, so instead of doing what I had wanted to do I ended up doing this:

    Tree and baubles and lights

Dancing color lights and a pink floodlight (meant to be red, cheap led crap lol)

    Brightest mailbox on the street

Front of the house with"snow" falling, lanterns, wreath and a "fire", which I need to build with some logs and things

     Gotta smile somehow

Those tractor wiper motors are very simple things, hopefully a bit of penetrating oil, a strip down and reassembly with new brushes and a clean of the commutator should get it back into life if power is present.
Agriline is who I used for the tractor service & repair parts when I did the grass cutting as they're one of the few places that catered for the Ford x600 series and Kubota L245 at a decent price. They also cater for your Massey 35 as well.

    Yes a 1978 3C
I think the plan is to wait until spring and first check it is getting power. If it is, then remove the motor and open it up to see if it can be fixed. If it can't be fixed then I will be looking for a cheap replacement, original or other wiper motor adapted.

Why go for half measures?  I'm sure you could fit an 18-pot Napier onto that flatbed with only a little* bit of overhang.
