  1. Met the Wife in 1980. She had recently written off her 1964 Mini and replaced it with a Viva HB. The Viva was rotten as a pear, often broke down, and finally the wiring loom behind the dash caught fire. It went for scrap soon after.
  2. Im still trying to work out how and why someone thinks that FWD is an advance over and is better than RWD. Its more cost effective for manufacturers, but thats about it. Hence a purpose designed and built FWD competition car is as rare as as a hens tooth in a pile of rocking horse shit.
  3. Funnily enough, I ve just started watching Car SOS, and they are doing an MX 5. This will probably put me off the idea.
  4. If the geo figures happen to be the same as the Omega (could well be the case) I can supply an alternative set of figures which make the car handle much better when it has a few miles on the clock and settled suspension. These figures were arrived at by Wheels in Motion (Chesham) owner, when the Omega owners forum was quite a big thing, quite a few years ago, and gave him a lot of business.
  5. I already have my own three cars plus my sons Civic to look after which more than occupies my spare time. The only reason to buy this would be to fix it up, if not too much work / time is involved, and then sell it on to make a few quid. I suppose the main question is - how many quid am I likely to make from it, once it has a fresh MOT.
  6. This is 10 minutes away from me, and the ad has got me a bit excited. It needs ( a little ?) welding and a bit of attention to the brakes according to MOT fail sheet. I can weld ( a bit) so not scared by that, as long as it doesnt turn out to be rotten as a pear, front to back. Asking price is £450, but what Im clueless about is what it would realistically be worth with a fresh MOT ? Probably need to spend not much money, but maybe a weekend of my time on it. It would be bought purely to fix up and sell on. Just depends what profit might be in it for me. All opinions welcome, cheers. 7. Personally I love it. It sounds gruesome but its actually pretty cushy. 5pm to 8am Mon - fri. 7.30 to 7.30 (either nights or days) at weekends. Unofficially we arent expected to stay awake doing those kind of hours, and arent actually expected to do much at all apart from keep an eye on things from time to time. I often do five nights in a row (mon - fri) so 75 hours, and then have a week off after. I did 13 in a row once, had three days off and then did another five. That was way too much and I wasnt really safe to drive to and from work, so wont ever do it again. Ive been doing it for just over 15 years, and hope to keep doing it for another five and a half years until Im 70.
  8. I should add that, as always, Im sure the wife will also have some ideas for at least some of my time.
  9. Finished a run of nights at 8am this morning. Not back in work until 5pm Friday. Hoping the weather stays dry and I can start working through the list of jobs on my cars.
  10. Join the Vegatableoildiesel forum. There is a wealth of knowledge & experience there. My setup was simple Kitchen sieve on top of a 25 micron bag filter. then through a 10 micron, then 5 micron bag filter. Had to keep it simple as it was stored in the boot of the car and filtering done in an outbuilding at work. I never found oil from any Chinese restaurant worth the bother. Always far to much fat in it to be worthwhile. Indian restaurants usually much better, and curry smelling exhaust was a hoot at traffic lights.
  11. I bought a red 1.6 gti off my mother in law 20 years ago for £75. Spend £300 on it and sold it for £750. I was well pleased with the result at the time. Like many other cars & bikes Ive owned, I wish Id had somewhere to store it for a couple of decades before selling it, but such is life.
  12. Are you sure the problem is electrical ? Not fuel system related for example. Whatever it is its worth being patient with. I still miss my 190D five years after getting rid of it. There really is something about them that cant be found in a modern car.
  13. Insured the Omega with Carol Nash last year for£145. Renewal this year was £260 ! spent a few hours on comparison and cashback sites and ended up with AA via Topcashback for £170 with £25 cashback to come, so basically, same cost as last year.
  14. I would actually have liked to have seen that. Just need keep the remote handy for when McGuiness open his gob. If my memory serves though, the original presenters were Noel Edmunds and Angela Rippon.
  15. It was never the same after William Woolard went.
  16. So very sorry to hear that Pieman. Sorry, but dont really know what else to say. Condolences to yourself and her family.
  17. He has never been one to let facts get in the way of the point he wants to make. Either in his comedy, or " serious" programmes. If Warren Mitchell was still alive he would probably sue him for plagiarism of the " ironic , working class bigot" character.
  18. Thanks. She has ongoing issues which get bad enough for hospital treatment sometimes. Could possibly have been ok with a visit to GP this time, but they seem to do anything to avoid having a patient in front of them at our local surgery.
  19. Spending my birthday doing a 12 hour shift. Doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of things as the wife hasnt been at all well (spent 7 hours at A&E with her yesterday) so she understandably hasnt even been able to buy a birthday card. Not bothered as her health is of course far more important. Cheered up though when my mate from Norn Irn sent me a big box of Tayto cheese & onion and then found inside it a framed photo of me in my Chevette HS from 1979. Didnt even know he still had the photo.
  20. And to think I sold a lovely low mileage 205 GTi for £750, 20 years ago. I also sold my Chevette HS in 1982 for £2300. No wonder Im perpetually skint. 😄
  21. yeah dont bother. Its a load of shit produced by 7 year olds. Looked good on paper, but its the worst attempt at a motoring programme Ive ever seen.
  22. Not all about the 90,s apparently. Also featuring Ian Wrights 1979 Viva !
  23. Talking about and driving cars from the 90,s From a Renault Espace to Ford Cosworth Sierra to Vauxhall Lotus Carlton. Should be interesting.
  24. Early Boxsters. Need to be in nice condition though. Not a bit scruffy like mine. V6 engined Omegas seem to be on the rise and will probably follow the Senator / Carlton in that regard. Unlikely that my 200,000 mile example will be a good pension pot though. Mercedes 190,s are on the up (even clean basic versions) and will probably only keep going up.
