  1. Spent the day ripping the old rotten giffer-made workbench out of the garage along with clearing a lot of shite we put in there in storage but got ruined by damp. Did 2 runs to the only tip which doesn’t need a booking (which comes of an end early February). Moved my Lidl no-bolt shelves to where the workbench was, and I’m almost ready to use the garage for actual car parking and car maintenance. What’s left without a place to live needs to go in the shed. Which is full, so I’ll have to clear that after work tomorrow (I’m doing a half day of overtime) to accommodate the stuff displaced from the garage.
  2. Yes, either a Genie or an Invader. It was a G plate which was when they changed models. I’m not 100% on these.
  3. Out and about at work last week I spotted this bringing the tone to an acceptable level while delivering a bin on a private estate in the Witterings And on the way home from shopping yesterday afternoon I saw this beauty.
  4. Had the Saab valeted today, at a nearby place which actually takes card. £28 well spent.
  5. Not to my knowledge unless the car was brought over from France either by a holiday maker or a private import. They look the part for a pre-1990 classic Frenchy though. This said, selective yellow has always been a valid colour for headlamps and front foglamps for UK cars. Many British classics with front spot or fog lights have a yellow lens/bulb/reflector. I used to fit those weird headlamp bulbs which has a prismatic effect when you passed a car with them fitted, which seemed to be common in the late 90s-early 2000s. More yellow output than white and better rain/fog vision IMO.
  6. There seem to be a lot of sloppy sun visor and sunblind designs in vehicles. Not having them meet is common, most could easily be shaped to surround the rear view mirror. The Mercs at work have a full* width sunblind. All they had to do is put the guide rails on a different face of the trim and voilà, full width. Guess where the blinding low sun always shines through….. The Econic has so many cab interior design flaws, I’m suprised things didn’t get flagged up at the design stage.
  7. I have a couple of those to do in my back garden. I may just bin off the panels and posts that are there and replace the lot.
  8. The R4 was a common sight every summer growing up, my grandparents lived in Spain and seemingly every business had an R4 van or Acadyane to deliver stuff in. They stopped making them in France 1992 but production continued for a few more years in Eastern Europe. I’d like to experience a drive of one, however I’m not a good passenger in a roly-poly vehicle.
  9. Spent last night in Gravesend dogsitting for the folks. Had a wonderful curry from a Sikh takeaway delivered by a very friendly man wearing a bright pink dastar. Turned out he owns the place and it’s very popular with the large sikh community here. Can recommend Suman’s Kitchen in Gravesend if anyone has the (mis)fortune to be there. Absolutely wonderful food
  10. The only thing I recall about the Fuego is some automatic car washes having signs saying “No Renault Fuegos”. I imagine the rear window was quite vulnerable to breaking when the top brush moved along the car.
  11. Phwoar! Rostyles must mean a GL or GLS spec (if original)
  12. A lot pf modern Japanese/Korean stuff has this ‘feature’. The curved dash on the later Marinas and Itals, angling the radio and fag lighter etc toward the passenger. What was that about?
  13. Thank you ASSS. Someone knows I’m into Dr Who, which is thoughtful. Sadly it’s 3 sizes too small for me to wear, but it will make a good addition to my burgeoning Dr Who collection. Here I am looking like a fat version of Techmoan I really hope my recipient got his or hers in time.
  14. Seasonal greetings to you all.
  15. Courier drivers have to have business cover on their insurance. We have plenty of staff at work who use their own car(s) for visiting sites or customers and they have to show they are covered and take a driving assessment in their own vehicle. If Evri et al actually bothered to check their couriers were running their vehicles legally I reckon at least half their drivers would be out of a job. Audiwankers is not just limited to the four rings of doom round my way. Pretty much anything German tends to be driven like a twat round here.
  16. I have received mine, but have yet to post. Purchased but hasn’t been delivered for wrapping so apologies in advance if it arrives after xmas.
  17. £7.5k is quite a decent price and overall I think you've got a bit of a bargain from a trader. An early phase 2 facelift with the nicer tail lights and stronger BE3 'box and it should be old enough not to be strangled by a cat convertor. Most of what it definitely needs are simple jobs for the most part. Really nice ones hit £12k plus even as private sales. Jealousy is high here!
  18. If I’m free I’ll be up for the Zoom. Only have 2 days off over the festivities as I am on call from 26th Dec to 2nd Jan
  19. Took this out on a Family outing and it’s quite apparent the rear tyres are awful on damp roads at 70. I’ve only pootled in this car until this evening.
  20. I have found it, but since the weather has been pretty much appalling since I found it, the garage is full of shite which needs putting elsewhere, and with a big hole in my front lawn which should have been a drive 3 weeks ago I may ask a garage to do the job for me! Incidentally I was hoping you still had those alloys available as I’d have bought 4 winter tyres instead of just the 2
  21. I would say it varies from car to car. They certainly sharpened up my Scimitars without being too detrimental to the ride but I went for ‘comfort’, which on that car were yellow coloured. There are some that aren’t so hard and unforgiving the ride isn’t jolting as a result. Have a look at the manufacturer’s specs for the various grades and see if they have a comparison to standard for your car.
  22. A lot of local tyre places recommend them as a decent quality budget, which at first made me sceptical as I thought it was the latest death ring from China being touted everywhere. However I read reviews on them and they all came up with more positives than a lot of unknown or well known budget and mid-range rubber for similar coin. My mind may change once they’re about half worn but they can then go on the back and a new pair on the front.
  23. 4 weeks ago we dug out the front lawn to have a front drive put in. Gas main is installed not as per the plans of the house and runs through the garden front to rear. Due to the slope it's less than 6" below the surface nearer the house. Contractor won't put the drive in until the gas board either drop the depth to 375mm. Contacted gas board once we discovered it. Engineer came out and declared it safe as we hit it several times with a spade before we unearthed it. They said someone would contact me about moving to the correct depth. Have heard nothing and contractor is getting twitchy.
