It’s not ‘your’ thread though is it? Even if you started it, you only have ownership of your own contribution, not other people’s replies.

Yup - British Leyland are going to get £350M a week too.
I saw it on the side of a (Leyland National) bus.

The Chinese can make high quality parts, the problem is that Western consumers won't pay proper money for them.

Today has been the best day I've had in a long time, I got money back on the taxes, and I've had the highest temperature since October with close to plus 10.
And best of all, dad and I have now got something we've been dreaming about and wanting for years a small wheel loader.
It is Chinese and electric but this brand has been sold in Norway for a long time and has a good reputation and we have a dealer close by who seems good so it is worth taking the chance on and it has exceeded expectations so far .And it may look like a toy but is bigger than it looks and can lift 500kg.
Have tested it on snow removal today and am very happy with it so far.

I nearly sent one of those little trailers into space a few years back, it was unladen on the back of my 4x4 so couldn’t be seen or felt.
I momentarily forgot myself and went over one of those narrow speed bumps without slowing down as the 4x4 wheels could pass either side of it.
The trailer then immediately made itself seen and felt, as its wheels could not pass either side 😬 I thought it was coming through the back window and absolutely shit myself, I’ve not made that mistake again.

Popped into a charity shop this afternoon and witnessed a delightful* lady hurling abuse at one of the poor volunteers
She'd picked up some pathetic item of bric-a-brac from a 4 for £1 bin, it scanned through the till at 50p so presumably it's 50p each or 4 for £1.. makes sense to me
    She's not happy that's it's scanned through at 50p
"But it says 4 for £1 on the bin"
Volunteer - "yes, but you've selected one item so it's 50p"
"But 4 for £1 is 25p each, so if I'm having one then it should be 25p"
    Volunteer - "it's 50p and that's what it's scanned through at, I can't do anything about it I'm afraid"
"Well this is ridiculous, what difference does it make to you?"
She storms off to the 4 for £1 bin, selects 3 more items at random and takes them to the till again.
She quietly, smugly pays her £1 for the 4 items.
She snatched them away from the counter, storms out, and chucks the 3 items back in the bin..
Eh, what the actual fuck? 😂
Firstly who goes into a charity shop and quibbles over 25p, and what sort of batshit crazy logic is that? 😂

I’ve been improving this car since picking it up on Saturday. Greased all the points, changed the oil (no filter on these) therefore it’s important to change it regularly.
Second gear was an awkward bastard. It was very reluctant to engage going 1st-2nd, but going down and the other gears were fine. The previous owner who traded it in for a Minor got in touch and said that second gear problem was one of the reasons he got rid of it, the other was the lack of speed. We can’t do much about the latter but what about the former.
He said he used to slip the clutch and move off in second which is less than ideal. Although the accepted thing to do with the Hampshire is pull away in second, it’s got a very torquey 2.2 OHV engine which the Mayflower, well, hasn’t so it’s important to have all the gears working correctly.
Adjusting the gear linkage made it so it always went in but it wasn’t very smooth unless I double-declutched. I had a look at the clutch adjustment. The free play should be 1/2” but it was at least 2- 2 1/2”. Adjusted that up correctly and now it works perfectly and smoothly in all gears.
Other jobs included tuning up the engine, and feeding the very dry original leather with the leather cream Vulgalour used on his Lanchester, I went and bought a bottle on his recommendation. It’s had two applications already and it’s getting there but it hadn’t been done for years so it really needs another application. I also tightened up the fuel pump and the stator tube on the end of the steering box, both were leaking and topped up the steering box. I think the fuel pump may need a new gasket as it’s still weeping slightly but the steering box is now dry which is good. Unfortunately the (recently recored) rad is leaking from two places, the drain tap and a soldered joint on the side so I’ll have to whip that out and repair it. I’ve got a spare tap which should fit.
The only other thing I’ve had to deal with is the non-functioning headlights. The car has a brand new loom so my first thought was they’ve forgotten to connect something or wired something in wrongly. I couldn’t find anything wrong with the loom so tested the switch with my test meter which showed it was faulty. To prove the point I ran a link wire across the back of the switch from sidelights to headlights with the switch turned on and the headlights came on. I ordered a secondhand replacement from the Austin Counties car club (same switch used on Somerset etc) which turned up and I tested it and it’s a goodun. Unfortunately you need to turn the ignition switch to the on position to remove and swap the barrel over and none of my keys would operate the switch. So that’ll have to wait until a key turns up for it.
So far though, I’m loving it. It drives beautifully and it’s brimming with character. Also it’s nice to have something that doesn’t need welding!

I'm calling it a day.  Not making ends meet any more, unfortunately.  I did send a message out to all my clients, including many on here that have used me regularly and/or recently - apologies if I missed anyone.  I'll still be on the forum (mostly lurking) and haven't discounted making a comeback at some point, but I just don't know yet - all the balls are very much up in the air at present.

    Shows what I know then.
The mrs thought her water broke this morning, so we scarpered up the hospital as she wanted them to check if the baby was indeed on the way. It was a false alarm, so we ambled back home and picked up child number one from my Dad on the way.
Whilst sitting in the Disco of Doom outside my house, having a breather and thinking what the fuck gathering my thoughts before returning to work, my phone rang.
'Thank you for your time yesterday, I'm phoning to say congratulations'
Not what I expected at all, but I'm happy to be proved wrong once again.
Thank you all for the kind words and advice thus far, it's greatly appreciated despite me being a despondent wanker 😂

I remember my worst job interview ever.

A family friend had organised for me to meet up with the recruitment person at his work who was going to go through my CV with me and help me to be more employable. This would be a favour to him.
In the meantime, they found a role at the company that they thought I would suit, so they decided to turn this meeting into an interview for the role. Nobody told me this.
I arrived with a CV and a notepad and was taken straight into a job interview.
The first question was why the role appealed to me. I explained that I didn't even know what the role was and asked if they could tell me. They wouldn't.

A few days later, I was phoned by the recruitment person who told me she was disappointed with my lack of preparation. I put the phone down. I still don't know what the role was, but I suspect sales, in which case I wouldn't have wanted it anyway
