  1. My other half didn't drive when I first met her back in 2008.   She learned to drive when at Uni and was a bit of a shiter for a few years.  I helped her buy her first car - an N-reg sadface Fiesta 1.3.  It drove nicely and then decided to do an impression of Fred Flintstone's vehicle of choice and went over the bridge after about a year.

Then there was a Rover 200 that got ditched due to OMGHGF.  At this point she was training to be a teacher and the University had a deal whereby you could hire a car (rural area) if your car was questionable, so she drove around in a brand new Seat Leon, a sporty Clio and a Corsa.  She hated the Corsa.

Then there was a MK1 Ka.  She got a job in Guernsey a few months later.  Rather than taking it through an MOT, she decided to export the car to Guernsey as there are no MOT rules over there.  This I think, is the height of 'shiter spirit'.  After she came back, we parted ways for a couple of years.  I think she had another Ka that got written off but in the end the car that 'stuck' the longest was an 05-plate MK2 Focus 1.4 Studio.  Possibly the slowest thing on four wheels.  This would have been around 2014.  She had that up until about 18 months ago when my Mum's old BINI R56 Clubman Cooper Diesel replaced it.

Her sister's first car was an S-reg Seicento 1.1 Sporting in bright yellow.  She owned that for about 12 years.  It failed its MOT on rust (after being welded the year before) and it's currently sat on her parents' driveway... she now has a MK5 Fiesta.

I've always found VW have the largest reserve amount after it says it's empty, there's often still over a gallon remaining in the tank.

It's about five litres on the reserve, based on my experience of a MK4 Golf.

  3. @LightBulbFun I spotted an Invacar (or AC Model 70) in Chartham Hatch (just outside Canterbury) this evening.  Parked at a house that has a significant car collection.  It was too dark to make out any details I'm afraid but it looked like it was missing headlights.  Couldn't make out the registration but I'll try next time I go past.  Body looked like it was in very good condition.

do you reckon I'd get laughed out of Challock if I turned up there in 'da base'?

Less so than if I turned up in my Golf.  Which is currently missing its badge as it fell off.

Call centre work is a big nope for me, I have one really big gap in my cv due to a call centre job causing one of the worst mental breakdowns I've ever had and vowed never to subject myself to it again.

Entirely fair enough.  It would do the same to me.  I did say it was shit!  I ended up with a similar gap via-a-vis teaching.

    Best of luck!

  6. There are companies that are looking for remote staff to answer phones for other companies… outsourcing and message taking, etc.  Job is shit but one I know in particular will take just about anyone..

My better half is doing a spot of online clothes shopping and spotted this and then did a double take, if you think Detroit and cars what's the first thing that comes to mind? Obviously there are loads of options but I bet most people wouldn't go TR7 would they?!

Having pasta at 9am strikes me as strange but not unpleasant. Not my first choice of breakfast but I'd be fine with it.

I guess there's a reason why he has pasta for breakfast, otherwise it wouldn't be relevant here

    Carb loading.

Who every time something doesn’t go right stands and says ‘I wouldn’t have done it like that’ but can’t explain what they would do or how they’d fund it?

Highest tax burden since?  What was it? 1948?  The party of low taxes, apparently?  The Conservatives are a complete and utter shower and you know it just as well as anybody.

  10. It would be very funny if CND calls the Police for trespass, especially as criminal trespass only applies in very specific circumstances.   And this isn't one of them.  Would love to see her head explode at that one...
