25v6turbo got a reaction from strangeangel in Holiday fun 60s style in the Triumph
So as many people will remember back in there youth, summer holidays in the 60s/70s was often a trip to the seaside and a mixture of hot summer or pouring down rain...
I remember travelling to Devon in the mid 70s in my dads Triumph 2000 MK1(which he still owns)and having to pack the car full of crap just to stay in a caravan for a week.
Fast forward 40 odd years and I now live in the Devon town I used to stay at and own a MK1 2000 aswell.....
So I,am thinking what period items should I display or fit to my MK1 to give it a look of a car that's travelled to its holiday destination? Not wanting to giffer the car and make it look to OTT just a few nice items to give it that look of a holidaymaker whos parents can,t wait for a pint of Watneys ale and a Babycham, while the kids are running riot around the local Warners holiday camp(had one here in my town)
I already have a lovely original STANPART accessory chrome and wood roofrack which really suits it with looking pineapple, nothing on it just a plan roofrack,it has a nice Desmo badge bar aswell, which has 3 lovely period badges fitted, and I have an original Tiger in your tank sticker in the NSR quarter window, period seat covers aswell, genuine unused feu orange hanging from the mirror, and an 8 track radio with aerial on back wing.
What about a hamper, period map of the area, Autocar/Motor magazine, local tourist info book, newspaper,a few bits on the rear parcel shelf and seat would look nice and suit it,but I don,t want to over do it.
I could add the continental look aswell with Lucas yellow headlamp deflectors and 60s/70s GB badge/sticker?would like a pair of those white door reflector buffers and the slatted style wiper arm deflectors.
Will be looking through a load of old car mags I have from the time to give me ideas aswell.

Decided iam going to TRY and convert my MK1 2000 to a manual/overdrive from an auto,i have done this twice in the past so sort of know what is ahead of me....
I wanted to ask if anyone has any parts that they would sell that would help the conversion?
I have the grand sum of nothing at the moment and there is a list of parts to get.....
I want an A type setup which had the column switch not the gearstick(J type)IN/OUT setup.

Looking over the Triumph tonight, and I came up with a question I want to ask,the car is 51 years old and of course a lot of mechanical items would of been changed, has a stainless exhaust, have receipt for new rack etc,but is it worth changing things like engine mounts, discs, track rod ends etc just to be safe?,i know it costs money of course but not talking a full rebuild, just items that could be best changed to be safe, all the rear brakes look good,it has new pads but was wondering about shocks, ball joints etc etc,or should I just leave well alone and stick with what I have but maybe collect a nice spares backup incase I have to change anything in the future?

Should of said its a slushbox, not my ideal choice but it goes like stink!it has a standard stainless exhaust on it which actually give a nice tone, had several MK1s with one box rear stainless sports systems before, they sound lovely....if i ever changed to manual overdrive i would fit one,but to be honest its nice just as a auto floating around by the seafront on a warm day.
Was thinking about the door reflectors but thought the bullet ones might suit it more?
I don,t want anymore front lights,it already has the 4 main ones another 2 will look abit OTT maybe
Oh and its Valencia blue aswell....

I was looking at my Triumph 2000 MK1 yesterday and thought it would be nice to add a FEW period items that would suit the car,not overpower the car with giffer items, but a few nice period items to give the overall look of the car from the period it was made(1968)so far when I bought it it has the following.
Badge bar,but no badges yet, this has been drilled into the front bumper so removing it will leave 2 holes,i don,t mind it but maybe only 2 badges need fitting,AA and maybe a Triumph related item.
It has a nice period rev counter on the top of the dash and oil/volt gauges which are in keeping and Smiths items.
The radio is crap and a 1980s item a period Radimobile is to be fitted,i was thinking about one of those MP3 upgrade items that still use the original radio, anyone else bought one?the aerial is mounted on the rear wing aswell.
Has nice NOS seat covers, packing was actually dated 1970, at the front, mainly because the original seats aren,t great!
Has no wing mirrors, towbar,or stickers in the windows, don,t mind the odd sticker but I don,t want to cover it was overpowering items...
So what else should I maybe consider or display with the Triumph?

Yep I can back this up and say someone PLEASE buy this,as you know I own a Safrane V6 myself and can safely say this is a car that will get more and more following in the future, got mine on a classic car policy and they sold about 100 of these in the U.K when new,a years MOT and a few quirky features make it a nice sensible barge to own without the very worrying RXE items like computer controlled suspension, and several other electrical items that have a habit of packing up...
I would of bought it straight away, but I already own 2 the V6 and a 2.2 RN so a 3rd will be abit greedy,so someone else please buy it.
I have loads of V6 spares etc,so should be able to help if anything is needed.

So the Safrane is a 3.0 V6 chain driven Z7X unit so no cambelt to worry about and I have never heard of one breaking a chain,170BHP and in the case of the RT V6 there is one one other on the road in the UK,i have owned about 10 V6 versions over the last 12 years and every breaker I have bought I have paid over a grand for, seriously, there are several closet V6 fans in the U.K,i know for a fact,i can,t even remember when I last saw a V6 RT for sale.
    Also that carphone is stunning!

Now I do know of a FWD 1500 on a J reg that was for sale locally but sold only to appear on a driveway in my home town, but I think it gets used, its Slate grey with a matador red interior, was a touch patchy but seemed solid enough...might give that a knock on the door.
I do like an A35/40 and Hillmans as I look at them often.
