One of a small batch of Berliet / Saviem deckers they had in the late 60's, early 70's (I posted a pic of one I took in Paris in 1971 many, many pages back). Front engined (under the driver) and front wheel drive. Basically the single deck with another one stuck on top. Didn't last long, think one survives.

Have another fire victim, except this was taken about 5 hours before it burst into flames on the M5 last night.

It's funny you should say this because yesterday on the M5 I overtook an extremely flash Iveco Eurocargo horsebox in a sort of gold colour with the bints name on the door. Registration was SYD1 and it was being followed by a very new Range Rover in a similar colour

A local operator has two which they use on local schools services. Trundle past my house twice a day.

Those are the ones that were "fitted" with a stick you could wedge under the dash to hold the (heavy) throttle down when on the motorway IIRC.

Drove some of those back in my early days. Went when you eventually got them wound up but not a patch on a Plaxton bodied Reliance for coach work. As for the designation, Bristol didn't use anything silly, RE stood for Rear Engined, L for Long (ie 36 foot, also available in M (33') and S (30') versions) and H for High Floor (service buses used the L or Low floor chassis). The number and letter at the end told you the number of cylinders and the engine make (L for Leyland, G for Gardner). Similar designations for other Bristol's, Little Horror, Very Rubbish etc.

Understand that First has decided to trial a number of zero emissions buses on the same route and have chosen Sheffield's 51 service. This route has destroyed demonstrators since the 60's due to its brutal nature (everything from national speed limits, town centre crawling and big steep hills). The first one was Volvo BZL BV23NNT which I understand didn't even manage a single round trip. Must get the camera out...

Looks more likely it's a LWB version of the Dennis Delta 1600 truck chassis.
