I won't even go under the car to place the axle stands. I send Imp Jr, he can fit into much tighter spaces and get them right under.

In it's never ending quest to live up to its heritage, the mg6 has now shat it's passenger door locking mechanism. Whilst the bloody door is closed and deadlocked.
I now have to destroy the door card, thanks to a piss poor design and manually force the lock from inside the door itself. Then I can get the door open and the window regulator fitted, along with a new lock  and somehow find a replacement door card.
I swear, it actually wants to become bean tins!

To sour the previous  good news, the garage aren't interested in fitting a CV joint. I dont have time myself so I'll just have to put the car back in my garage for the time being until I have the time to sort it.

Mine decided to deadlock the drivers door and drivers side rear so I had to climb in through the passenger side (luckily I was a svelte 20st 😂) I didn't fancy smashing through the door cards to get the lock off so I sold it spares or repairs.

    Hopefully you can save this.
I had 3 focus estates as company cars they were great
    NG02UFD
    AV53???
    BG04WVX
the last one locked me out the car with the engine running, I’d nipped into the gatehouse at a customers to sign in, went back to the car and it was locked. Had to wait 3 hours for the AA man to turn up and we wedged the drivers door open slightly and used a long metal rod to press the boot open button on the dash to get in through the boot.

All mine had zero rust but to be fair they were brand new at the time

The thing about 75 diesels is that while the engine is usually very reliable, it's the rest of the car that can be a bit needy. If you dont mind going to work on a frosty morning with the door held shut with a ratchet strap, air bag light on and at least 2 calipers binding, then it could be a shout.

shoulda got a diesel Rover 75, the M47R reworked by Rovers and made by Styer Puch are i think far superior to any VAGshite diesel.
obviously the car does have faults, the drop links been a service item, and the clutches been good for only 100,000 miles or so,
the turbos, head gaskets and timing chains are all things though that do not usually give trouble.
the VAG diesels i have driven i have HATED with a vengeance, they are all go or whoa. they were either screaming their fuckin' tits off on the rev limiter, or labouring like fuck with no torque at lower revs.
and usually i didn't like anything else about the cars, their bland looks, their rubbish gearboxes, the suspension made from cement and seats made from rubble, and so on!

I went to the local jetwash earlier, huuuuge queue but I waited in line for ages like a good boy, they have 3 bays and one was filled by a twat with a 3 series who unloads a full on valet kit, snow foam, wheel brushes , chamois and fuck knows how many bottles of jizz. He occupied the bay for nearly an hour , spending £3 max for the occasional rinse and does a full on forensic detail of his car, pissed me right off !
I then went to put air in a tyre and watched in wonder as a woman in a qasqui went round each tyre 4 times in a ten minute routine, I thought about asking what she was doing but in the name of equality didn't. I pulled up to the airline when she left to see it was set at 3.3 bar, i.e 48 PSI ......... that's gonna shake her fillings out over the speedbumps !!

Left them soaking in plus gas. Poured boiling water over them prior to clamping them in a vice and using a 10mm socket as a drift - they are all out.
Aluminium corrosion has clamped the rubber washers - and done a very good job of it. In fact I think this kind of corrosion should be used as a way of joining metals.

C1 has gained a dint today. Stopped at traffic lights on roundabout, and there's a muppet with a tractor on the roundabout attacking the trees with a flail attachment. That's a bit fucking dangerous I think. 2 seconds later a chunk of branch flies 50 foot and bang I've got a damaged door.

today we have had the black mini out of the garage, for the first time this year.
    we got it started, eventually,
drove it down to the petrol station , for a gallon of fresh super-plus and some air in the tyres.
then we headed off to Kerrys with the Rover following.
we got maybe 3 miles before it stopped.
    it coughed, spluttered, and died.
and it wouldn't start back up.
SO - tow rope on, and back to the garage we went.
got there, and back away its gone!
dunno whats wrong, well, we know there is no spark, so somewhere the lightening has all leaked out.
is it the points? condenser? coil? something else?
who knows, suffice to say that today has not been the most "productive" of days!

    Wrote to a guy..who produced..the book...answer
Hi Rab Thanks for the email and photos. For your information I am attaching a copy of the fliers we used for the book which gives you a little of my background. Firstly your cars. The first one FM9746 is Chassis No IL13805BW and was registered in NZ on 11 May 1971. It is a UK assembled car and would be brought in to NZ either on overseas fund or import licence. You say it was a South Otago car (we spent 13 years in Baclutha, 1968-1981, and all our children were born there) so it would have come in on the overseas funds scheme. Do you have any idea as who was the first owner as when were were in Balclutha we also had a Series One and there was a very active group of owners there. The first Nelson assembled Series One did not come off the assembly line until 7 September 1971. Your second one is the car that interests me. It is a Nelson assembled SWB model with Chassis No A2N6093BW and Body No.KZ713375N. Regretfully without the registration number I cannot confirm when it was sold but my best estimate is around early May 1975. What is also of interest is its colour – Dark Blue. Very few Series Two SWB were ever painted that colour. In fact I would say of the 156 Series Two SWB that were assembled in Nelson only about four came out in  Dark Blue. As I said 156 SWB Series Two’s were assembled in Nelson between August 1974 and May 1975. The last one KZ732 features in my book and is owned by Chris Asquith in Dunedin. It is a beautiful original car. Your one at KZ713 was in the last batch of SWB’s. Of the 156 SWB,s I have been only able to trace 17 so you can see how thrilled I was to find another one. The Nelson numbering system is all explained in the book. Concerning the book. If you wish to purchase one could you please contact my publisher, Dave McManus at Copy Press. His details are on the flier. I have had quite a run lately and have only my copy left. Also you are better to get it from him as they have a far better deal with overseas postage than I can get. Great to hear from you and if you could supply me with any further details about your cars that would be terrific. When you do get the SWB  to Scotland you will have the only NZ assembled XJ6 in the country as I do not know of any other going to the UK. A number have gone to Australia though.
