Agreed a buy on a spaceship diesel civic. Looks a real good one and in the current market prices, a bit of a bargain.

Absolutely stunning. My dad had the saloon when I was in year 7, hated it then but my god do I love it now. Superb purchase

This is all really helpful @RoverFolkUsnever knew it needed tellingtelling had the dpf replaced, I'll check out getting it done @Pat Earringsany chance of popping round sometime and connecting your diags to it?
I could potentially do next weekend as I’m Monday - Friday now.

Pair of air bags for £75 ordered, have good reviews and UK based company supplying them. Also ordered the pipe and filter from Aerosus for £24. I’ve decided even if the compressor is gone, it’s not the end of the world as it’s all very accessible and easy to get to. Hopefully be able to do it some point next week. I probably will buy a new one if the old one is gone purely as there’s not too much of a difference, but a second hand OE will do just fine too.

CRX is gone. Thank fuck.
Now what...what actually happened with it that ended up being a nightmare?

It'll burn the compressor out if it doesn't drain the battery first, I've seen it before!
Yup hence why I frantically emptied the boot and pulled the fuse before it had chance to go bonkers.

Air bags are nothing to be concerned about…every bus and coach on the road are running them and doing mega mileage. I’d think twice about changing to standard springs. Once replaced, it’ll be fine for many years to come.
I did think that but apparently, it’s a common conversion on the E61 tourers to do. It’s just the cost I suppose but I’ll have to either get it looked at first before I decide which path to go down. Too many variables for me with the compressor and the shitty pipe that BMW made for it too.
EDIT: I should do better research. Bags are not expensive and appears easily doable myself. @NorthernMonkeymate I probably will just replace the bags then! Not as upset now 😂

So in the last two days I had a “self levelling suspension fault” flash up on the E61. Sone research showed I’ve got rear air bags…fuck sake. It went away but then earlier today I noticed the OSR sagging but when I returned it had sorted itself. I was due to see family today so packed stuff in the boot and then popping out to the shop I hear the compressor going off and refusing to turn off. Turns out if a bag is leaking it’ll carry on running until it dies.
I managed to find the fuse for it and pull it so no dead battery. I will be replacing it for a shocks/springs conversion kit on the rear instead, fuck am I messing around doing air bags and stuff.

Liked for the headunit only. That’s shit about the SBC but fairly certain they can be reset due to the counter inside dependant on the code.

Not to piss on your chips but even the people that do it laugh about how it doesn't make a jot of difference. You'll notice that it's almost exclusively offered by cheapish one-man-band remappers? Well from my understanding, years ago some guy bought a bizarre looking "HHO generator" machine from China and started hooking it up to peoples cars to make him look busy when he was waiting half an hour for the teenage lad in lithuania to email him back the modified map files. He made up a story that it was to decarbonise the engine, but initially the machines were never designed to do anything of the sort (they were supposed to be left permanently attached as part of some tinfoil hat perpetual motion / "run your car on water" scam)
Anyway it seems to have caught on, it's an easy way for a guy to earn another £30 while they're already on your driveway and because most of the time it's done just before a remap, it's impossible for anyone to do a proper like for like comparison of it's results.
It's like when they sell you "fuel system cleaner" when the car goes in for a service at the main dealers. Doesn't do anything, but it "technically" could, and it's impossible to prove either way.
True it is hard to quantify the difference with actual figures.
It’s something I wanted to try and in all honesty I’m satisfied, only a few quid anyway, not like it was mega expensive.

air con relay? they certainly go wrong on a civic spaceship
Second this. Very common. There’s an uprated relay you can buy direct from Honda, it’s around £40 or so if I remember. Take the relay out and if you shake it and it rattles you’ve got your answer.

drove it in manual mode just now, no change, maybe slightly smoother shifts but they're rarely horrible
drove round with lexia attached today monitoring the temps, 93c was the highest i could get it which is within it's operating range
oil pressure pretty much bang on
so the issues:
2nd gear unlocked, when under load and hot it shudders and surges, like the box is slipping and catching etc
usually above 40, under load accelerating you often lose power, completely, you can only maintain speed, but engine revs rarely increase much but i have noted it slip just slightly during this
backing off sorts it
shifts usually get a bit notchy after that for a while before becoming smooth again whilst 2nd unlocked is still rough
i'm wondering, maybe, just maybe, it's some weird form of engine issue i'm actually having?
but what could cause it? MAF sensor maybe? but no codes at all
surely, if it was slipping enough to start losing speed it would log a fault code
I would have suggested MAF too, but in my experience that disappears when you restart the engine. This fault of yours appears more mechanical, and potentially the early stages of box failure.

Extreme weather calls for extreme measures.
Seeing as I will not be venturing out at all today and the car is parked in direct sunlight, I’ve taken a leaf out of the Mediterranean way and covered the dash in blanket. Also did the same with the interior leather as I don’t want it melting. Yes they are bedsheets that you can see there too.

So here it is, getting two new rear tyres as they were cracked to fuck. Other than a grubby interior it seems really strong mechanically , only 92k miles and really feels healthy. I had one of these a while ago off the forum and forgot how they sounded, smooth but also almost agricultural at the same time. Front bumper needs sorting though, the shitty Perspex grill hasn’t been seated properly and it’s loose, and you can see there’s a small bracket on the front right that’s bent back slightly so the old dear who I bought it off had clearly bumped something. No big deal. Small list of stuff to do, including a full service this weekend and demisting the headlamps etc. After a full wet vac inside it should be a nicer place to be.
