Quite likely to be the rocker shaft, especially with those, later type sintered steel rockers - they wear the shafts much quicker than the pressed steel type.

They normally prime pretty easily. Spark plugs out, put in gear, remove banjo bolt from external oil pipe to engine block and squirt some oil in block while pushing the car backwards. I've not had one fail to prime yet (unless someone's forgotten to put the O ring between the block and gearbox or cocked up the oil pump gasket)

D,E and O at A level would be worth at least A,B and a C today. Would get you into Oxbridge with a suitable sob story.

I was very happy to learn about this Minor function when trawling info and videos, makes it a very practical little car.  A roof rack and towbar for a little plywood bodied trailer completes the set really.  I doubt I'll ever have back seat passengers, I don't have that many friends.

Years ago, mate of mine bought a Renault 16 in the depths of winter, which was a sod to start. Slave battery would just about turn it over enough to start it. New battery? No difference. New starter motor? No difference. Checked earths? All good. Ignition timing? Spot on.
Turns out the sump was full of Wynn’s finest to disguise a bottom end knock, which had the  consistency of molten lava when cold

I remember the sex in chains thing as it happened just round the corner from our house. I was a teenage lad and it rather captured my imagination.

Letter renewal, £437.17 paid.... OK, but I haven't paid, so I ring up, can I pay over the phone the website does nothing when I click pay.

    "Sure it's £427" 🤔🤷‍♂️

The next week, "you absolutely useless cunt you owe us £10.17." Even though I paid over the phone what the bloke said. I just tapped in credit card.

    ...

I ring up, hey you've diddled me. The guy apologies an wipes the £10.17 debt. More emails and letters, "you shortchanging northern twat, you're getting cancelled on the 16th,"
Live chat, the guy says nah, it takes a day to take effect.

    OK, I login. INSURANCE CANCELLED!!!!!

I ring up, "Oh yeah it was written off on our file, let me check with my superiors."

I'm still on hold, to see if they can undo it.

It looks like you've bought a reasonable one, definitely put the decals back on. The 998's are an underrated, smooth little engine and it's easy to almost double the power output with not much work and no negative effects on reliability. Everyone should have at least one mini!

I appreciate that you're probably a bit fed up with advice from every direction but, as somebody who spent several years welding for a living, why not just buy a cheapy mig welder (even a gasless one) and have a go? It doesn't matter too much if your welds aren't aesthetically pleasing as long as they are strong enough. It's really not that hard and it makes forming replacement panels a lot easier as you can make them up a bit at a time if you need to. There's loads of online tutorials too.

Anyway I'll shut up now. Good Luck.

Fair point, but at the risk of winding you up, that really needs some sort of structural repair. You can buy a cheap gasless (so you can use it in your wind tunnel) mig for £100 that will join metal together.
I know not many of us on here are wealthy but I am happy to start the ball rolling by chucking a tenner into the "buy Eddy a welder" fund ?.

You have to try one, quite simply the best thing to drive, ever. Nothing else is quite the same, admittedly the build quality etc left a lot to be desired at times! I have owned 38 of them so far. Prices are now insane so I probably won't be buying many more. If you're ever in Cornwall give me a shout and we'll let you have a go in one. Heads off to sit in dark room.......
