Just get a suitable lead from eBay and then download Bmw INPA or DIS, Inpa is much easier to install and use though.

If it’s any consolation I changed the bulb in my headlight switch years ago and just like yours once the ignition is on so is the switch illumination so I would surmise that it’s probably normal, I’d imagine it’d be a German chain of thought where if you were going in to a tunnel say that it would allow you to see the position and location of the switch to put the lights on!

Also to wade in on this from personal experience..

Our 1st Mondeo got took out by a brand new punto at the time that decided it wanted to fly and land on our car, we were in the house at the point we saw this unfold.

Long story short got a reasonable payout after arguing the toss a couple of times (never take the 1st valuation they give you!) but did get a hire car as didn’t want to put miles on the bm.

But be prepared to get shafted on you’re next renewal even if it is a no fault claim.

Mine went up by around 30%, I was unfortunate to get the old and new renewals within days of each other.

When i asked why i was getting bummed they said that insurance companies statistically say that you are at a higher risk of going on to have an accident of your own when being involved in a no fault claim, absolute load of bollards if you ask me.

So take the fuckers for everything you can get before they subsequently have you’re pants down!

Don’t be fooled in to the old dealer only excuse when you have just one key.

Sure enough if you have 2 then that means you can’t get the car into “programming mode” to add new keys which is a piece of piss to do.

However if you do have 1 key timpsons isn’t a bad shout as if they can do it they will clone your existing fob!if they can do this the only downside is you still can’t program new keys as you still effectively (as far as the cars concerned anyway) have one fob.

Other than that with my 1st mondeo that had one key I took it to an auto locksmiths who had the kit to add and remove keys and they then just added the fob and blade I’d bought off eBay then job done.

Don’t go to a dealer they will bum you royally for a job like that! I paid about 40 quidditch for a new fob and tibbe blade then 20 quid to the locksmith!you can spend less if you buy a second hand fob.

In short they are like any car, look on any forum and you’ll find listed many inherent faults on the associated vectras / avensis’s / Saab’s, whatever basically.

The tdci mondeo has got the same reputation for injectors as rovers did with the k series head gaskets, in reality has everyone on here who had / has a rover suffered hgf?

Like anything you can have lemons, but mine was a 1 owner car and I’ve covered over 130k in mine, I’m struggling to think what is better suited to what I need.

What upsets me about this thread is seeing the perfectly useable shite that was condemned as "scrap" back then.

The irony is that the stuff that they traded in would reasonably still be running now with a little servicing and care, yet the cars that replaced them have long since died due to more complicated electronics / emissions equipment.

Case in point I was at the garage yesterday and I witnessed the death of a 09 plate Megane convertible (yes I know not the most desirable but anyway), used for short journeys for most of its life and at 67k it was getting cubed, why? Because the dpf that was bollocksed and was worth more than the car and the car wouldn't run without it!

There isn't a car in our fleet that is under 10 years old, and we get around very nicely whenever we want, and the star of the show has to be my mondeo, it gets thrown up and down the m62 to Leeds and back every day, it's comfortable, surprisingly fast, economical, working air con for the summer, heated seats for my bum in winter and I can park it where I like without the fear of someone damaging it, but in the eyes of most people and garages it's worth the square root of naff all.

What I'm angling that is that shitters can legitimately do the daily grind as good as the next 118d / a3 etc.

The higher the MGFV, the bigger is the amount outstanding at any time.
For instance, if you borrow £15k with an MGFV (or balloon) of £5k, at the last repayment you still pay interest on £5k.
A conventional loan will therefore always cost less interest. The MGFV is thus just a synonym for a "pack".
If you don't believe me, compare the total paid under the Car Purchase Plan and a conventional loan (at the same APR).

But what I really wanted to explain is that any scrappage scheme or other incentive a car company offers to do a Blitz
is completely insignificant in the grand scheme of the Blitz.

Most cars made since 2010 have cruise and switchable speed limiters (damn useful things in 30 limits). These days they read the roadsigns and auto-set the limiter - but don't force it on you. Yet.

The problem they'll have with Hybrids is the sheer mileage they'll cover before they wear out. A Prius can do something like 100-120k on a set of pads, no clutch to wear out, unstressed Petrol engine, brushless motor. People say the batteries will go but the amount of people that have done 400k on the originals suggest otherwise.

    Hi Guys,

So hot on the tale of the recent auto to manual conversion, thought it was time to tell the tale of my old girl.

I've had her since 2004 and wont be parted with her, shes got me out of trouble a number of times and theres nothing out there that has really ticked the boxes for me like this one.

It was originally imported from Japan in 2004 with only 46000 kms originally, the car was then swiftly converted to MPH and motd and registered.

Originally a 5spd auto life was generally good and was good on a cruise, it would occasionally frustrate when the gearbox wouldnt wake up or trying to hold a gear when having fun but i accepted it as just one of those things.

Fast forward to 2010 and suddenly i lost 2nd gear one day it was there, the next it wasn't.

A trip to the garage suggested we get another box and with it being the 5spd it was assumed it was the ZF box, right?

WRONG - turns out it had a JATCO box packed to the brim with unobtanium parts.

At this point we worked out that virtually everything was different to a standard european spec car including a radiator and oil cooler from a 7 series as well as wiring looms that only worked with the jatco box.

At this point the mechanic (phil) suggestion was do you not fancy it as a manual (he has an 318is coupe too), my response was hell yeah!

Then the hunt was on for a donor car, we needed to find an early e36 6cyl manual so that all of the running gear would match up.

My car had a rest in our carport for 3 years whilst the hunt was on.

Finally we tracked down the right car in Ellesmere port, and then the conversion began.

It took Phil around a week to do in between other jobs and ive never looked back since, the car is sooo much better as a manual, its like having a different car.

I will let some pics do the talking now.....
