Absolutely love it. A while ago I was pottering around Oslo in a mate's '64 220 (nicknamed Mugabe), what a comfy old barge, hope the two cars meet sometime!

There's a complete lack of understanding of the reality of the situation. For example your granny lives in the green fields on the outskirts of the zone, she wants a bit of landscaping done. Pavel, Mick and Sunni all travel to the site independently spending £37.50 a day for the privilege of being able to go to work.
After 5 days there's a surcharge on granny's bill of £187.50 to cover the ULEZ Khan tax.
Think of that on medium projects where you have 15-20 guys on site.  And no public transport isn't a viable  option.
Still that's democracy eh, oh no wait over 60% didn't want it but it's going ahead anyway.

Got a few days free, so it’s time to swap the gearbox.

With the engine swap being relatively recent the bolts came undone pretty well. I had more problems doing the droplinks and brakes on my wife’s 10 year old modern. Had my FIL helping, and him being an experienced car fettler and ex RAF aircraft engineer helped a lot. We came up even on trapping each others fingers taking the box out.

With the box out we replaced the clutch, which was actually in really good nick. But while it’s open we might as well. The new clutch cover wouldn’t fit on the dowels, I suspect the tr7 dowels are bigger and the previous one had been drilled out to fit. The original one looked good so we reused it.
At this point light was dying and beer was calling… FIL is as good on the pans as he is on the tools so we had lamb, pork and chicken curries. Let’s see how hangovers are tomorrow for putting it back together.

From first glance, this 240 looks like a bargain at £995, but probably one of the most interesting MOT histories I've ever seen

As i posted on the News 24 thread I've just repaired both front and rear bumpers, they had been bashed a bit and have come out surprisingly well, I'm waiting on a new bracket for the rear as that was a bit managed.

That dent is very annoying too as that wing be perfect if it wasn't for that!

chrome tailpipe will make it go quicker

A friend messaged me to say he found a pair of Laser headrests in his mums shed if i wanted them for £20! I was over the moon!

So much better, and the rocker cover, rad panel and timing cover as come back from being powder coated and now mostly fitted back on

That strut top is a job for another day, I might have to farm that job out once it has a mot, It now runs straight of the key too although it's not set up quite yet so only ran it for about a minute so far. and that's pretty much up to date now!

Aye, good luck finding one of those at sensible money!  Normally if an E3 gets scrapped it's due to terminal rot in every panel...

Check the tank by NSR wheel, it's a bit exposed. Mine went by the seam area halfway up the tank. Tried to seal it with magic tank epoxy but failed and bought a new pattern tank.
You have found a superhuman welder. Nurture him, feed him and eventually you must propose to him, lest he leave you for another Shiter.

To be honest I'm probably going to chuck it into the Morris Leslie auction and see what it makes when I'm done, hopefully with some profit to offset the fuel costs over the next couple of months.

Nearside sill is just as bad as the other, so the whole lot was chopped off.

Nice rusty layer that had been needlessly added for special bonus points.

    Chop, hack, etc.

Inner sill built back up in stages.

    Centre sill prepped.

    Then welded on.

    Remaining welding jobs:
Fill in the floor where it attaches to the inner sills.
    Cut off rear arches.
Remove back axle and start cutting out the inner rear aches.
    Rebuild the rear arches.
    Attach outer sills.
    Repair the boot floor.
Repair lower door skins (will probably leave this until well into the future).
After that, it's stripping the underside, painting and seam sealing everything, then on to dismantling and rebuilding the suspension. Then refitting the interior and engine.
