I don't normally get riled up by anything on the news but this has really fucked me off.

I don't understand it though. Likes of myself who rely on their car for a not so well payed job and need to travel. What do we do then? I don't have a lot of savings in the bank to buy a 10 year old car, let alone an electric car and don't earn anywhere near enough to finance a car and cope with all household bills whilst still having disposable income. Surely this has to be the time where we look to alternative fuels.
The "go electric" rhetoric really annoys me. I like the idea of electric cars and I think there is a future for them but it is dissapointing to see that alternative fuels aren't even being considered. However, if history has taught us anything with batteries are not really reliable, constant need to be charged and plugged in all the time. There is the argument to say that ICE cars using diesel and petrol have the same problem, need to be filled up all the time and are expensive which I get.
Are battery powered EV's any better? At my work we use lithium ion batteries to power to power some of the forklift trucks and ppt's we use. These trucks must be between 7-10 years old and according to a work colleague they have to replace them every 18-24 months as they are rubbish. Some of the batteries won't last a full 7 hours of use.
In summary I just think this hasn't been thought through. Cars are a personal freedom for a lot of people, a lot of people rely on them to make them money. If people can no longer afford to do that, they either have to take public transport which is still expensive and doesn't always get you to where you need to be or on time.
I just see it as a tactic to win over the environmentalist vote. It's really sad times we are living in.

Is this 2030 ban just a proposed date, or is it actually official? The 2040 ban was achievable? In 9 years how are they going to do this? Where is the plan, or is this just another move to force the working man off the road?

To put it bluntly they couldn’t give a rats arse about someone in yours or my position. Too busy listening to air heads like Greta Thunderbird or whatever they call her.

Oops I forgot to take 'after cleaning' pics while it was day light!
It's not perfect, but significantly better.
I removed a lot of goo and rubbish from previous owner!

leanycan reacted to Jazoli in People scare me.
I reckon around 50% of the cars on the road are in a similar condition, people just don't give a fuck and will ignore lights/noises/tyres until they take it in for its annual MOT, where they will get a shock and have to pay £££'s to have it repaired, and rinse and repeat, I don't know anyone apart from me and my Dad who do any preventative maintenance at all, I've never had a car fail its test and sort any issues that arise immediately, you should be charged double for the mot test if it fails on bulbs or tyres at the very least!
Its also one of the major reasons I don't really like buying cars that much.

It'll potentially be roffled when I'm done, so don't be too sad!

leanycan reacted to Cavcraft in How much would you pay for this ?
Fair enough, never thought of that. Have always thought people selling cars with only the actual key in the ignition meant they had either just bought it or didn't drive it much.
Another thing is when you see a yellow plastic or cardboard tag attached: straight out of the block or local garage's trade stock.

I'm probably sure I have seen them but not for a while. I have seen a few Sierra saloons kicking about.

leanycan reacted to tobyd in Migration downtime 19th/20th - Complete
Hello,
We've got to move AS off the existing host in the next few weeks so going to need an extended period of downtime to get this sorted. Weekend of the September (this month!) 19th and 20th is the date this is all going down.
I hope it won't take ages but from midnight on Saturday 19th (the start of saturday, rather than end) anything you were in the middle of posting might get lost. Not entirely sure when it'll be back up but i'll post something here when its safe to start posting again, tenatively hopeful for mid-afternoon saturday but if it all blows up it might slither into sunday.
