Apparently they were working with a company called Camcon who were developing a system which used electronic valve actuation, each valve capable of being opened independently thus completely variable lift and duration. I’m sure some engines these days might use similar systems or at least partial electronic valves, Fiat and Ducati spring to mind.

Aye, they were second hand but had never been used.
Pay £12 to join cliosport.net for a year when you come to do it, that'll get you access to the online guides. Takes a bit of getting your head round (especially setting the timing) and it's fucking tight but its doable. I covered doing mine in my thread.

Had an old vectra b 1.8 up for around 400 quid was scruffy with a few dents, a cracked rear bumper but otherwise mechanically sound, had some old fool ringing up tutting over the photographs saying “ooh that doesn’t sound good to me, it’ll be a lot of money for a new rear bumper and it’ll need a respray that’ll be a fair few hundred etc, can you come down a couple of hundred?”
Just ended up hanging up on him in the end after telling him where to go.
Why are you looking at bargain basement cars when you want concourse condition but only want to spend pennies.
Some tinkers came the next day with 400 cash and drove it away

Or a metro gti SE with 58k on the clock, pretty much mint and boxed and no rot. “It’s fucked mate it’s worth 150 quid”
    Yeah jog on lads.

    So, jobs on.

All main wiring now done and dusted. I have diagnostics wired up. There’s about five feeds to the clocks I need to figure out but for now.. I’m there and!

    It started!

Yeah alright it was for two seconds and there is no coolant in it, and the immobiliser kicked it off..

So anyway I smashed in some more jobs whilst the ECU was having its immob removed and redundant sensors mapped out.

Harnesses are now bolted in properly with spreader plates and the battery to boot is finished. Added some more cable tidies and the front clip and headlights are on. Power steering reservoir is actually fitted properly.

Downpipe arrived and as it’s off a polo conversion it’s a squidgen too short. Basically need someone to cut it and weld in another section about 2.5 inches long.

Really all that’s left is a radiator and two driveshafts.

Saved the best till last.. ECU has been programmed to up boost from 7psi to 16psi with progressive boost in the first two gears (50 percent and 75 percent). Little bit of overrun should make it pop a bit for the laddiiessss

Was the temperate gauge sitting just below half after a long run? If that’s the case then you may have a thermostat that’s stuck open, had this a few times over the years causing a few mpg oddities

Yeah you must only use those ngk iridium plugs, literally there is no other alternative that will give proper service which is rather ridiculous

I’ve also found those Irwin gripping sockets are excellent at getting rounded off bleed nipples out. Failing crack the flexi union and bleed from there.
Strictly get you home bodge measure these mind you!

I had a 106 with a sticky caliper many moons ago, tried to force the brake piston back in and ended up physically bending a massive record g clamp. Then I opened the bleed nipple and that seemed to help a lot it - the caliper piston would return by hand.
I did replace the whole lot after but clearly fluid would not flow properly and as we know it doesn’t compress.
In regards to bleed nipples these calipers look very similar to the ones used on the rears of most French hatches (clio 172, 106 gti, Saxo Vts, 205 gti maybe? ) might be worth hunting in that direction for some
