I haven't posted on this site for quite some time now but have logged in to say all the best with this car and glad that it's been saved. The seller you bought it from has owned many pre Farina Austin Cambridges but usually ends up breaking them for spares due to their low values. He painted the lower half of this car dark grey. Good that he threw in the rare period metal sun visor too.
Great it still has its original plates and the LF Dove of Croydon dealer plaque.
I owned KSJ 128, a 1958 column change example which was also Tweed grey but with a red interior. Very nice car to drive. Would like another pre Farina Cambridge at some point.

Had a tiny arrival this afternoon courtesy of @64A60

    A little beauty!
I’ve been after one for ages, but I never could find them whenever or wherever I looked. They just always seemed to elude me!
Great to finally have one and it fills a gap in the collection.

This arrived in the CogBox the other day...

I've drilled it out this morning so it can be stripped; it's going to be blue.
    Meanwhile, remember this?

    Well now...

I had to buy a gold marker pen, fine point, to signwrite it.  I haven't quite got it right but considering I'm only guessing at the livery anyway, it'll be good enough.

    Anyone into Simca Vedettes?
This Minialuxe model was also supplied from the extensive @64A60 collection.  It has a plastic body with aluminium base, stating VERSAILLES 1/32 Autorisation SIMCA JOUET MINIALUXE.

The Versailles was the mid-range trim, this body without the later rear fins would date 1954–57 but it's likely a tad younger than that.  The friction flywheel motor is now running well, after an oiling and adjustment.

The roof/glazing is from a separate clear piece that had been painted on the inner side and glued home.  The base was also glued.

Sadly, this example is missing both bumpers, both rear lights, a headlight jewel and the boot lid (which was once an opening thing).  But it is generally crack-free, the all important grille is there and so is the hot-stamped Versailles script at each rear quarter.  Excellent for the age of it!

@64A60 thought it could be restored and modelled on this '59 Ariane owned by artist Walter 'Outlaw' Carta who frequents London and Milan:

However, I think it's nice enough as it is, so how about just adding some lettering to be a Jean Sunny stunt show car, as Simcas were a favourite in his stunt shows:

Could* be an interesting and unique slot-car stunt-show effort, too

That is, if Doris is willing.  She usually is more than willing, after downing a few Camparis.

Courtesy of @64A60, I've also got my grubby hands on this plastic Go Car, produced under the Funmate brand by Matsushiro Toy Company, Tokyo, during 1971-72 and primarily for the Canadian and US market.

It's a model of a 1971 Ford Torino GT SportsRoof, a 'fastback' style having different rear sheet metal to the Hardtop Coupe and only available from GT spec.  It measures to 1:40 scale.

These Japan-made models are a rare find in the UK, but quite common in the USA as they were attached to the side of detergent boxes as part of a Procter & Gamble campaign.

Go Cars had a spring-loaded handle with a three-inch-long narrow metal rod that slipped into a hole in the back of the car.  Depressing a lever shot the car across the floor.  However, they found that kids would get jabbed in the eye if the handle wasn't not held firmly enough.  You can just about read the hastily-added disclaimer sticker added to the base regarding the safety issue.

I have a disclaimer of my own.  It might not be best to do a Google search on 'Funmate' in the first place.

Never seen one before in this unusual Arab Police livery

But then it's probably not a good idea to encourage the شُرْ طَة‎ (šurṭa) around in the first place

In other news, the nice postlady brought another box of diecast at lunchtime... this is becoming something of a habit.

Within lies some partwork delights, acquired at a very moderate price after @64A60 tipped me off about DiecastStore.co.uk, and some of the goodies on their site.
Most of them are being set aside for, ahem, a birthday that's upcoming in a month or two - so I bundled them away again.
But I did set aside a very cheap Dacia 1300 (Renault 12) estate, which was so thrilled to arrive that it had already de-boxed itself by the time I opened the main package.

At £3.99, I don't think I went far wrong. I do have a particular fondness for estates.

Also, who remembers this from a few months back?

Yup, it's a Sava S-66, the Spanish licence-built version of the Leyland FG 'thrupenny bit', presented here in tipper format.
Well, I needed something to push me over the free postage line, and there was only one shown as left in stock so... it would have been rude not to.

I obviously don't need two, but given the enthusiastic response to my earlier acquisition, is anyone interested in taking this on for the £6.99 I paid for it?
It's still sealed, though the clear plastic packaging is a little crushed.
    EDIT: now spoken for!!!

I sympathize, dude - my substantial diecast reduction from three years ago was also motivated by trying to reduce the required storage space to something compatible with domestic harmony.
In my case, it was agreed that four IKEA toyboxes should be sufficient to house a collection - three for storage, and one to house the boxes of those on display at any given time.

Now, these lived in the attic, but they've been in the back bedroom for a while now.
Box 1 is mostly modern  1/43: Vanguards and those French Altaya/IXO partworks, plus a few stray Vitesse.

Box 2 is the "heritage collection" - my Matchbox Dinky and Corgi Classics stuff from the 1980s/90s, my Soviet-era diecast nabbed from market stalls in the mid-90s, plus various other oddities and loose models.

Box 3 is mostly 1/72 and thereabouts - boxed Matchbox old and new, Hongwell Cararama, Oxford Diecast, EFE, Tomica and Johnny Lightning (many of these are just the empty boxes for those on display, mind).

Box 4 is meant to be just empty display boxes, but has become more of a storage box for Vanguards overspill and the temporary repository for some of my tat market finds.

There's also a shoebox sized container for unboxed Matchbox-sized stuff, and another the same for Kingsize stuff.
Which, in display terms, translates as...
Two 1/43 display cases by the front door area:

One contains mostly the recent-ish Russki models from the market back in December, plus some of the more recent arrivals from Shiters.

The second displays some more of the recent Jumajo acquisitions, and a couple of Vanguards received back in December alongside some other odds and sods.

Upstairs, it's the back bedroom which doubles as a display area - an old 1940s bureau with what was originally a glass-door bookcase up top, but now contains the bulk of the loose Corgi Collection...

There's only three shelves in there with a lot of wasted space, but I have three more shelves cut and just needing installed, which should double the amount of space available...
Which is handy, as the (mostly) boxed Corgi are stacked up top, waiting for me to finally get the finger out.

I do like seeing the boxes, though. However, leaving them stacked like that is probably doing them no favours, long-term.
Above the bed in the back room, then...

(Ignore the stripey effect, that's the lampshade)
It's the smol stuff - mostly Hongwell Cararama in the first one...

With a couple of Real-X in the mix, and a stray Oxford Diecast Capri.
Whilst in the second display (which started life as TK Maxx pinboards, to which I added glass shelving and a lick of paint)...

Mostly Oxford Diecast, with a couple of Hongwells and some EFE for good measure.
These are horribly dusty, as I got some slide-in glass covers cut but my choice of fixing to hold the glazing in proved useless and I still haven't bothered my lazy arse to re-engineer it all.
So yeah... I would like to have more display space, especially for the 1/43 models. On the other hand, my books and vinyl collection also take up a fair bit of room in the house, and it's not fair for MrsDC to have to have all her stuff crammed away just because I can't keep a lid on my collecting tendencies/compulsions... It's also quite nice to rummage through the IKEA boxes every now and again and change the displays round, and reacquaint myself with the contents.
My fantasy would be a detached double garage with a room above it, containing a number of display cases for all my models, a large comfy settee big enough to recline opposite the linear hi-fi unit I built a while back, and some substantial bookshelves. Throw in a kettle and a small fridge, and I think I could be quite content...

At the beginning of the month, @64A60 offered me a Fordson van so that I could recreate this one...

...which appears to have been my dad's company vehicle from well before I was born.
So Dan sent me a message, telling me he'd sent it... and then nothing.  No box arrived.  After three weeks I messaged him saying so, and he was able to tell me it had been tracked to Barrow and marked as "delivered," but that was it.  Today, just as I was about to take my dog to the park, I intercepted the postie who had a box for me.  Yes, the missing parcel from Dan!  Seems it had been returned to Barrow sorting office and marked for redelivery (so why didn't I get a card through the door?) but that was over two weeks ago!  Anyway it doesn't matter, I've got it now.

The van is lovely, too good to repaint really but I don't think they get played with like they did when I were a nipper.  But what's this behind it?  Only a 1/64 scale workshop diorama, complete with a 1957 Chevy Bel Air!  A little bonus, but a massive delight.  Thank you so much, my friend.  I could not be more pleased.
