  1. That would explain why he wouldn't want to go to the "Nuffield" dealer for a Wolseley, the two sides of BMC still had separate dealer networks until the 70s.
  2. @Peter C in the 1987 Sierra thread
  3. It was possible to get a manual Wolseley 18/85, so I'm not sure why he chose the mechanically identical but less plush Austin 1800. Looks like he worked out that a Rover 2000 was only slightly more expensive than the options he was given, but perhaps he couldn't persuade his bosses to stretch that little bit further!
  4. Yes, no equivalent of your Mark 1 1.6 base, the lowest model was 1.8 LX.
  5. I've owned both 1.8 and 2.0 Mk3 Mondeos and I found the 1.8 noticeably slower, not slug-like but a surprisingly big difference from the 2.0 considering that they look pretty close on paper. Found the 1.8 whiny at motorway speeds, too. I do recommend a Mk3 in general, if there are any left that aren't thoroughly worn out!

  7. It's on British cars for the 1983 model year only. From late 1983 the dangly mirrors were base model only until the 1987 facelift when they disappeared entirely.
  8. The mirrors certainly aren't original because they would have been grey. Whether it had dangly mirrors originally depends on the trim level. Body colour slatted grille (if original) makes it an L (dangly mirrors) or GL (non-dangly mirrors).
  9. Sounds like you'll fit in here! Nice original looking Manta, is it an "Exclusive"? One of the better names given to a base trim level!
  10. I didn't even realise it was that car!
  11. As @richardmorris suggested, this shot by @HMC in the news 24 thread:
  12. Vauxhall used Ambla on the HA Viva, but only on the top SL trim level. More modest Vivas had to make do with standard vinyl.
  13. I'll kick off this month's calendar nominations with @MarinaJosh in the Marina Shite thread.
  14. So nice to see a car go back onto period reflective plates. I'm sure it will soon become less obvious with weathering, but as the outline of some of the old digits is still visible, I wonder if it will attract the attention of plod?
  15. There was a specific taxi spec Granada from 1979 until at least 1990, but not a Sierra as far as I know.
  16. 1.6 economy had a "computer controlled ignition system" and a high geared 5 speed transmission. The price was the same as a regular 1.6 5-speed, at £157 more than a 1.6 4-speed. April 1983 brochure
  17. That's what Ford called the base model, despite it being a hatchback! They did the same with early Mark 3 Escorts.
