  1. MAN van chat - it's not the first time MAN has collaborated with VW to make smaller commercial vehicles, back in the 80's they made the MAN VW G series. These were related to the VW LT vans but I believe there was an understanding that MANs variants were to be 'cab and chassis' type vehicles rather than an integral van. And they had the honesty of keeping the VW badge in sight.

I remember the rental company Kenning had some of they MAN/VW things....

.My Dad had one through the company he worked for back in 1988/89(ish) & it was pretty much identical to the one in the picture above. I do not know what engine size it was though.

  2. Update on the Jaguar. It just gets better.....Today, whilst looking through its service book for the first time, I was astonished to find x11, (yes eleven) Service stamps, Last serviced at 107,338 miles in 2013. It has now covered 117,898 miles.....So, around 2000 miles a year it has done in that time.

I also got to spend some time with the car today, so the first thing I did was, go get some petrol in a can (It had been running on fumes pretty much since I first bought it). This took off the Low Fuel Level warning for about 15 mins...lol.

Anyway, I decided to give it a much needed wash & this is how it came up....I have still to apply the alloy wheel cleaner, so ignore the wheels, as they are not clean.

I need to go get the Number plates made up, & do what Mr A Lawrence & 3VOM suggests, saw fuck out of the glue at the back...It should work...I was thinking doing that with a hair drier at the same time, maybe soften up the glue? Either way, I will get the bastard off.

After the Number plates are done & Fitted, I need to get it booked in for an M.O.T....which, I am 90% confident that it will pass, it appears solid underneath & runs & drives superb.

Anyway, here are pictures taken after it had a wash today...It is still wet in the pictures, but it is in mighty fine order for a sub £200 car.

Wait until I have polished it, it will look lush.

P.S....It has NOT ever been resprayed in its life, so it is not 2 shades of blue like it appears in the pictures, it's just wet,

The reason the drivers door is wet is because after I cleaned it, I put the drivers window down & forgot that I had not cleaned the window rubber/s, so smeared the window with dirt upon putting it back up.

  3. Looks very nice, although these have some of the worst styling of recent years IMO! I still would though. Do these have X-type-rivalling rust problems?

They do indeed suffer from tin worm like the X Type. Similar places aswell, Sills, Subframe, floor pan.....However, This one, in it's favour, has no mention of severe impending rust issues in it's MOT history. However, I stand to be corrected come MOT Time...End of this Month..

  4. Sorry for the delay in posting back, I have been very busy. However, After a little bit of waiting....Here is THE ACTUAL car I bought...

The pictures are a bit shit, & No, that is NOT scratches on the left doors, it's a reflection of the next door neighbours trampoline.

Better pictures to follow, as It really does need a good wash & polish etc.

However, it drives fantastic, very very smooth. Gear changes are silky smooth. & it smells like a Jaguar inside. Just Lovely.

I will update with pictures once it is proper clean & shiney

Also, It has had a private number on it, hence the missing front plate, the private number did not come with the car, but the rear number plate (Jaguar S Type Shape) is proper stuck on & I don't know how to get it off, so any suggestions welcome.

Overall.......I am well chuffed with it, considering how cheap it was. & it is in much better condition than I originally thought it was when I went to see it/buy it.

Also.....How to I edit the thread title? As it has been collected etc..

  5. I've had mine for 10k miles now........had a top hose blow a piece of plastic out.....apparently they are do that.

Nice car as a daily.......I like it more that then e39 I had

I remember the one I had as a daily years ago, It liked a drink, but the get up & go was addictive... it's 243 BHP on the 3.0 V6 as standard....That is More than the 218 BHP from the Mercedes 3.2 V6 Engines.

243 BHP for less than £200....Not to be sniffed at...lol.

  6. They're actually really nice to drive, I think achille's heels are autoboxes and electric windows, but there's probably more.

TBH, for sub £200, it's an absolute no brainer.

I had a very brief test drive, however, the box itself felt good, no laziness or funny noises/clunks etc. & there was no fight to get it into D or R.

As you say, for less than a new tumble dryer, it was a no brainer.

  7. Top work. My early 3 litre manual was most enjoyable.

I had not planned to buy any car today/tonight, but this came up & I thought it was worth a look. I am glad I did. This is an Auto...I have never drove a manual Jaguar before. Manual Mercedes, drove them Yes...But Mercedes are best as Automatics IMO & because of that, I think the Jag is best in Automatic flavour.

Did you have any hassle with your one?

  8. Hi All,  Tonight I did something that I do not normally do..... I went & saw & then Bought a Jaguar......An S Type in 3.0 V6 Flavour.....2003, 53 Reg. Automatic, Finished in nice Metallic Blue.

It has done 117 odd thousand miles & has some MOT left until the end of the month.

Lovely inside, with the half wood & leather trim steering wheel, working parking sensors etc.

No warning lights on (apart from low fuel).

It was bought for the price of a brand new tumble dryer...Less than £200.

It starts & runs lovely & it also seemed to move alright in the very very brief test drive that I had of it.

I had a quick peek underneath it & it seems solid enough (I know about the sills, rear subframe etc) & It has had a small tickle with a welder last year, but the M.O,T History is free from mentions of OMG SEVERE CRUSTINESS.

Unfortunately, as much as I have done the deal & bought it, I have not picked it up yet (Which will be probably Friday/Saturday) & no, it was NOT an Ebay special, it was bought from a private seller.

Pictures will follow, just not tonight.

I must add, I am a serial three pointed star licker & that will not ever change, however, having previously had a 3.0 S Type years ago, this was too cheap to say no to & if I must confess, These are lovely cars to drive & pretty quick as well in 3.0 flavour.

If anyone wishes to tell me that I am stupid buying one of these now, please feel free....But there was just something about it that I could not really say no...

    Pictures to follow upon collection.

  9. Looking at your pictures above, Have you removed the engine cover? As it appears to be missing in the picture.

    These engines are brilliant.

Agree with Cavcraft......218 BHP from the 3.2 V6 in standard tune. & as said, Brilliant Engines These.

With regards to the gearbox, It is possible that the gearbox conductor plate is starting to fail (if it has the 722.6 5 Speed Auto fitted, which being a 3.2 V6, I would say it has)

Not an "OMG YOU NEED A NEW GEARBOX M9" scenario. It is a fairly common issue on Mercedes of this vintage as these get older.

You can youtube Mercedes 722.6 transmission Conductor plate replacement & there are videos of how to replace it etc.

Once done, it will change gears like a hot knife through butter.....Smooth as fuck.

    cheap at the price.

These will go up in value in future,& with it being a 3.2 V6, There are more 230K's than 320's knocking about.....Buy now whilst cheap people.

  10. Years ago, I bought a 1997 P reg Mercedes Sprinter, the old 2.3 Diesel engined one, not the CDi version. Now, this was a tidy old thing, but it had one small issue.....It ran & drove spot on, but, it used to belt out white smoke & I mean this was like sending smoke signals.

At the time, I did not have the inclination to get it fixed/looked at, mainly because, it was not burning/using oil & it did not overheat & despite it looking like it had a 60 a day habit, it drove well.

Anyway, I stuck it on the Bay, stated that it smoked & could not be driven for a long distance due to this (I had never driven it for 250 miles, more 30 miles all in) This Asian gentleman from Birmingham won the auction. He was brand new, stuck to his word & turned up at my house around 7pm on the agreed day.

So, we sorted out paperwork, payment etc. By this time, it was around 8:30pm & he was ready to leave.

I told him that I would not drive it the distance he was planning to drive it, to which he replied "will it get me to the M74?"  I told him I thought that it would, but because of the smoke, it was not advisable. He then told me that, once he gets to the M74.......He was going to call the AA, say he has broken down & get them to come & recover/transport him back to Birmingham.

    Well Fly.  :-D

He must have done what he said, because he left 100% positive feedback.

  11. Im usually enormously happy if some Polish turn up, they usually come, with actual money in their hands, give you a fair price and are realistic about what they are buying.

Where were these guys from with the Polo?

These were defo not Polish. At a guess, Maybe Romanian or Lithuanian, but that is purely a guess.

I have never had someone spit on the ground & then walk away before.
