    That’s a great pic @Spottedlaurel
Theres something about the aesthetics of robs one. the rivited reflective plates, lack of wheel trims, no accessoried classic owner picnic hamper on the back seat or stick on chrome headlight peaks. It’s so honest and period. It’s straight from the high street circa 1977. Superb.

I really should get an award for dodgiest used car salesman of the year,  during lockdown I've managed to sell quite a few cars including cars that don't actually belong to me...

    I sold this for £600

It's funny, people must be looking at my fire sale thinking I'm selling up because I'm skint but at this moment I think I have more in the bank than I've ever had and I'm still being paid in full from work...
I've just been enjoying having a clear out.

Today I bought a car whilst wearing a mask.

Probably not one of my better ideas to buy a car whilst in lockdown but it came up on my East Coast Retros group for a good price and Mrs Trigger declared her love for it so I nipped up the road to view it and came away £2200 lighter.

This is the 1508cc with 3 on the tree, the current elderly owners wife recently died and she loved the car and he couldn't bear driving it anymore, I've known the car for years as its been on the local show scene and our ECR car meets since he bought it in 2011, it was restored in 2007 and has a few scabs and a dented wing but for the price I'm not complaining.

This one's for Mrs T so I'm going to have to try and fit some seat belts front and rear but I'm looking forwards to getting to grip with column change!
A friend thinks it might have been a Practical Classics donor car years ago when it was still a A reg?

Mmm, do wonder if I need to sell that.  It's now sat outside looking lovely and French, but exposed to the elements.  But I'm starting to build up a nice little collection here, so may just sack off having anything newer than 1992 instead.  Cav can be teh modern.

One more post and I'm up to date.  More wire brush action on the underside this time.  Again, it looks worse than it is in places as you can tell it's had periodic rust treatments done.  Some of it with whatever the old boy had knocking about, such as the silver paint here.  It's a school of thought I tend to follow too.  Better to do something than do nowt, and if it helps keep the cost down double win.

    MOAR Vactan

After a few days it was cavity wax and stone chip time.  I know Dynax is the stuff to have, but I'm mindful of costs mounting on this.  Still managed to spend 85 quid on numerous cans though.
This first in the box section parts of the rear subframe and other areas.

Jizzing it up!  I should probably have stone chipped those upper parts of the subframe.  The extension lance thing is essential in jobs like this for the harder to reach areas.  Plus the jiz shoots out at a greater pressure, which is nice.

Places like the boot floor and fuel tank have been done in the past, so they are in really good nick.  I've been so lucky....
Then stone chip time.  This was very satisfying after the mucky job of wire brushing earlier in the week.
More cheap shit.  20 quid for 4 cans.

This still needs finishing.  The front passenger floor section still needs wire brushing and Vactanning, and the part under the exhaust.  I'll try and get the chip up in the gap rather than drop the exhaust, although it's not exactly a complicated arrangement.
Next job is to start it tomorrow and risk a run up and down the communal driveway.  I reckon it's just running on residual fuel at the moment, but it'll be good to shunt it up and down as it's such an amusing thing to drive.  Loads of character!

As mentioned in News 24, last week I did a buy.  It's effectively a two owner from new car, as the bloke I bought it from had only owned it for three months.  He's got 13 other ADO16s, so decided he'd better have a clearout...
As blind impulse purchases go I think I've done alright.  The same giffer owned it from 1979, there's 69,900 on the clock, and it's only done 860 odd miles in 16 years.  Oddly he kept getting it MoTd until 2017 despite it being exempt.  The history is clean too, with only advisories for ball joint dust covers, CV gaitors, tyres perishing and a few other bits.
    Pics from the C&C advert.

The idea was to buy something properly old for a change, and to tinker with it during lockdown to try and maintain some sanity.  Let's see how long I last before I get bored or run out of skills!  But my initial thoughts are this will be sticking around for a while.

    That's a shame.
It was well put together and packed full of the kind of cars that everyone on here loved; what other magazine would have had a group test with a Rover R8, Mk5 Escort and Renault 19 Chamade just pages away from a Peugeot 405 vs Renault 21 article. You could just tell it was something created by people who were passionate about the cars.

Good memory, same colour, I reckon that was a good 14 years ago!  (EDIT: it was, bought Sep ‘05, sold Apr ‘06).  It was a time of low scrap value so I paid Shadow money for it.  Quite the sleeper with the Astra GTE engine.  Got scrapped after I sold it.
