  1. 'Skye Boat Song'... Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing, Homeward! the sailors cry; Bring the Carry back that's born to driven Over the sea from Skye
  2. This is the site of the proposed Old Kent Road railway station on the East London Line - so I'm not sure flats is proposed for just here. There is tho next door a huge and horrible slab block going up - and stuff opposite. Thanks for posting.
  3. Shiny paint -SERIOUS issues.
  4. Also the way things are 'shown' can be set up to deceive. Parked up indoors under a flattering uniform artificial light quite a lot old nails can look really ok. Get them outside in natural light or sunlight is a different story. It is always a really good idea to carry an inspection light at any of these sales. A look under the car or bonnet can often tell all - also looking inside the fuel filler flap and places difficult to bodge will tell a lot etc
  5. Are you suffering from auto-besity? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/11/paris-charge-suv-drivers-higher-parking-fees-tackle-auto-besity
  6. Daimler Conquest Roadster Coupe. The convertibles are better known - no idea they did a hard top. Five sold and one survives. https://www.handh.co.uk/auction/lot/28-1955-daimler-conquest-roadster-fixed-head-coupe/?lot=41823&sd=1
  7. In a way as an idea - not so far off a modern hybrid - smaller electric for town use and a big motor for longer journeys - London's buses use something similar for start/stop these days. GM used multiple-cylinder engines on their cars - that cut some cylinders out some of the time.
  8. Park Royal Vehicles were a major manufacturer of bus and other commercial vehicle bodies in N. London. Turned out some amazing stuff: http://www.prv.org.uk/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Royal_Vehicles This lorry looks of the highest quality and I do hope it passes into sympathetic new ownership. Possibly a unique survivor... Factory closed in 1979 during BL's 'rationalisation'. Many were unhappy about this. This what was said in Parliament: https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1979/oct/22/british-leyland-park-royal-vehicles
  9. In the UK these were known as the Renault 750 and were assembled here from CKD kits at Renault's Acton factory in London.
  10. Have a great time everyone. I'm away this time but maybe next year I hope to make it.
  11. You can also scour the streets for cars out of tax and simply take them home - innit.
  12. Fully restored yes. These have quite a following in France.
  13. Rover - 152 mph. The whine from the turbine is fantastic. Pity it was not the future...
  14. And our future - what will it be like? This genius gives some ideas...
  15. Having seen these new - I can say the styling was jawdropping at the time. Pity they were not made better.
  16. Apart from the gas turbine (mind that 350°f exhaust!) lots of this guess is indeed as now. Graphic dashboard, self drive, aircon, car fridge, elevated motorway, car phone, lap belts, satnav, panoramic roof etc.
  17. As often with 50's cars the styling in the brochure was better than the reality.
  18. Yes the big cars definitely had their niche in the marketplace. Worth a go if you see one - great quality. Manufactured in Coventry - car factory now demolished like so many. AS also designed the engine in the Humber Super Snipe for Rootes. I think it was more they decided to pursue their aircraft interests more profitably by 1960. Alvis dropped out of the car business a bit later. And Rolls Royce cars was spun off into a separate company some time later too. British Aerospace had a dalliance with Rover - that didn't last long either.
  19. Could not compete with Rover or Jaguar - or upmarket Ford and Vauxhall with the Zephyr and Velox. MG had the ZA Magnette as well. Just too expensive to find many buyers in that sector. I'd read the styling was so poor at the rear because the car was modified at a late stage in its design to provide 'more headroom'.
  20. Those 'B's' are very nice - look very good. Introduced 1965 - upper glasshouse styled by Pininfarina. Funny thing - BMC/BLMC would put a hatchback on a sports car...but not on any small saloon...😆
  21. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/jul/03/tipping-point-in-decline-of-magazines-as-one-large-printer-remains-in-uk Interesting article on the state of the print magazine world including any car related publications.
  22. The man sat in the car is Henry Ford II. He could not buy Ferrari so decided to beat them at their own game. Note the AC Cobra to left and what looks like a Shelby Mustang in background right.
