Used my welder in anger for the first time at the weekend. Welded a nut onto a broken off stud to get it out. Might only be a small thing but felt like a big achievement to me lol

Time to cut out the rust above the rear shock. Hope my skills with a grinder match those with a welder: that is a lot of missing metal. Getting a bit worried here. What a crap detail Volvo - talk about a rust trap.
Well pleased with my metal fab skills here - made the new inner wing in one piece . Didn't take one with the welding complete but you get the idea.

Dennis Eagle has made a tractor! Well, given their venerable Elite 2 a fifth wheel.
It's marketed at a 44tonner - I wonder how the Volvo D8 engine will cope with that.

After the resounding failure of my first attempt at enfield body support sections I decided to try and remove as many of the possible causes as possible - I think the fact I could only fold the channel section to 45 degrees in order to be able to get it through the swager meant it wasn't as rigid as it would be if it was folded to 90 degrees to begin with which then meant as I swaged the curved flange onto the edges it tended to introduce a bow into the whole channel section.
Also I only had a 4" long v block tool for the flypress so taking multiple bites at sharpening up the fold lines probably introduced more curve where it wasn't wanted.
Step one was to machine up a decent length V former.
fitted to the flypress with a matching lower former.
I then dogged down the original section on a flat surface so i would be able to measure it as accurately as possible.
Hopefully this shows the curvature which needs to be replicated.
I made up two accurate templates of the curves to aid marking out the new sections.
And I made another new lower roller for the swager that's just small enough to fit inside the channel section meaning it can be folded to 90 degrees before its put through the swager.
I also thinned down the top roller slightly to allow a tighter fold angle.
Took my time with this one and it came out pretty well.
Curved where it should be!
And straight where it should be!
End profile - the distortion on the folds is only at the ends where the swager starts and stops, it gets trimmed off before fitting to the car.
Folded up some small corner gussets.
Replacement alongside the original.
And test-fitted on the car.
Forward end.
Rear end.
It'll want a bit of fine tuning/adjustment but overall I'm pretty happy with the fit and it sort of proves the theory which is good as i think there will be quite a few sections which will need replacing!
Cheers for reading and commenting!

Fleet update!

Last seen looking a bit sad with a faulty gearbox and bust crossover pipe:
Work has been absolutely mental so the first chance I got to do anything with this was over Christmas. Autobox out, crossover pipe replaced and a good used gearbox refitted. Bit of drama with the crossover pipe nuts seized but we got there in the end. Now MOTd and running great, sold a couple of goodies off it I didn’t want and now owes me a whopping £600. Got some huge 18” mud tyres and some lift rods coming for it so I can really wanker it up.
Overfinch Range Rover
New top hose cured a coolant leak, new front air bag cured an air leak and front drop links cured some horrendous knocking. Properly good motor this but can’t see it staying long - neither me or the missus have really gelled with it I’m sad to say.
D3.5
Still in daily service, now upto 268k miles. Treat it to a wash and a fancy roof rack that I’ve always wanted, plus a black pack grille and side vents.
Finally managed to get all the Solihull outcasts together for a photo, shiters may have noticed a disturbance in the force earlier as a black hole of unreliability opened up somewhere in South Yorkshire! Keen eyed viewers may notice the blue one that featured earlier, my mate still has it and hasn’t put a foot wrong in 4K miles. He absolutely adores it, so much so he sold his other motors and is currently in search of a facelift auto version.

So once again I’ve been busy on eBay and copart, and bitten off far more than I can chew…
1x HSE with all the trimmings:
1x commercial:
1x Overfinch Range Rover TDV8:
That makes it 4x Discovery’s and 1x Range Rover on the fleet. I really need to get them all together for a photo, it’s really quite funny (or frightening?!) 😆

Landy Mann reacted to HMC in HMC- Incoming- Old Skool Ford (contains mk2 escort)
When i got my s class, it would be on its bumpstops after about a couple of hours and do a lowrider impression, along with the airmatic red warning message of doom on the dash. Usually people run a mile but as said s class was cheap enough, I thought- why not, its only air finding a way out somwhere?
It looked cool but basically valves should maintain the ride height when the car is not being used so something was amiss. Despite my limited skills I decided that fixing borked merc air suspension was something i should have a go at. The compressor also made a very loud noise as well so i decided to jack/axle stand it and have a look…
So the noise was certainly from the sprung rubber bushings being replaced with cable ties, which were basically clamping the compressor to the bodywork, acting like a sounding board;hence the noise. As it was VERY noisy i couldnt rule out the compressor itself (which had been replaced at some stage already) being on its last legs. Very much so as it was working overtime to counter the deflating suspension.
I also thought there might be an issue with the valve block (sat above the compressor) as the whole car sank, rather than one end or corner which might otherwise suggest a local rather than control system pressure loss.
I was working on a few assumptions but decided a second hand valve block and compressor would target a few issues at once.
£80 quid later i had the sub assembly ready to go.
This lives under the OSF wheel arch….
Being methodical i marked up all air lines…
And swapped it all over piece by piece.
And before long the spaghetti was all back where it should be..
And with crossed fingers I started it up, the properly isolated compressor was silently doing its job. Or was it? Being so used to the racket i was worried it was inoperative! but once the totally depressurised system was pumped back up , no longer do i have a low rider on its bump stops after a few hours parked, and its working perfectly, Result!

There is also the AS Mecca of the pre-smiley Transit sliding door variant. Not sure if it was aftermarket or not.
