asked dutch friend and it wouldnt let him either - will only let belge cards pay apparently - all their gigs until the end of april apart from this one are sold out and the other one i can make is very northern germany in june where its closer to fly to copenhagen than ams :D into bremer on hamburg is two flights from here cba with that - dont wanna drive that as its 6 hours from calais

I'm guessing Bancontact only?  I lived in Belgium for just over a year and it was a pain in the arse to try and pay for anything without one of these.

I wasn't talking about the specific issues with this house, I'm talking about what thermal insulation can and can't do.  My point is that it can do a lot more than just reduce heat transfer and to assume that is the only thing it does is wrong.

I think you are correct in this instance. I was overzealous in some insulation and it's definitely blocked off some ventilation.  I'm planning to return to the UK, rip out the old stuff and replace it with new stuff, although with it possibly needing to dry out in there first, I'm in a bit of a bind as I won't be able to go back again to sort it - the wife is due in a month and I can't be stuck!

There's a letting agent involved in a roof you have to pay for?

So I'm working abroad at the moment, so I'm renting my house out in the meantime.   The letting agent is meant to be managing my property but they're pretty shit at it.   A few terse emails back and forth have been sent today.

10.5k needed for a new roof, and around 1.8k needed for repairs to the wife's C-Class.  Then found some holes where there shouldn't be holes in the Flexus.  All while our first born is due next month.

This month has been fucking Cosmic.

Weird update on this - just had the house insurance surveyor come round as we were hoping to try and go down the storm damage route.

He's emphatically told us we don't need a new roof.  Just take the old insulation out, fit the right amount in so it can breathe, and sort out a bit of leadwork where one house leads to another.  It should therefore, be a much more palatable bill.  I have had two quotes from contractors that the letting agents use, who both want 10k+.   Seems absolutely shifty to me.

Gearbox will be shifter cable, I've had a couple of R8/Civics do the same thing. When the cable seizes up they either get stuck in P, or won't go into P.
The shift cable for Civics/R8s is NLA now unless you want to pay £90 from the US - hope the Prelude one's a bit easier to find, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.

The first Prelude had a similar snag - but it only made itself known on the drive to Coventry to px it for the Lexus.  I already had a contingency £200 with MrsHarris becuase I had a feeling the seller was going to be a minge about it (and he was).  I'll do some digging on it though and see what I can get for it - easy enough job?

So happy this thing is still going strong and still in the fold. One of my favourite cars ever

It's an ace motor, it's definitely a long termer.

6. Spoiler did appear dealer fit.  Bit of Tiger seal and it's going nowhere!

Bit of work being done to it in my absence, my favourite mechanic is retiring in October, so MrsHarris has booked the Prelude in for an MOT in August before he disappears.

It's getting the centre section of the exhaust done, the springs replaced and the starter motor replaced.  It has a Mitsuya Motor, but they're unobtanium, so the Denso one should suffice.  Bit bigger in the body but it's got space around it so should be fine.

When I get back, finally put tyres on the new alloys and get them fitted, then a bit of love for the gearbox (it seemed to stick in park once for MrsHarris, resulting in an AA callout), new speed sensor which I keep forgetting to get sorted and that should be sorted for a while!

7. Probably should give this some sort of update.

I still have this one, it's still MOT'd and it's still a bloody beauty.  Lockdown and sea time has meant that it's not getting too much use at the moment though, and that's a challenge I need to sort.

Current issues with it at the moment:

- It's in need of new front springs.  It's way too low for my tastes!

- The battery is on it's way out, as I think the starter is starting to stick too.

- The rear spoiler is trying to make a break for it on one side, the screws holding it have worn it through so I'll need to find a better way of securing.

- Speed sensor for gearbox eventually.

I did pinch the clock from the outgoing one before I px'd it, so that works now thankfully!

8. The way I got around this when selling the Saab 900, was putting a higher price on the advert.  I wanted £300 for it IIRC, so I put it up for £400.

Young lad came round for it, gave him an honest appraisal, showed him a timestamped video of it running earlier that day, then he offered me £350.  I agreed to split the difference, plus I had kept the wheel trims to one side, and sold them for about £70 IIRC.

Don't think it saw the road again, sadly.

I got all sorts of shite offered to me when I was selling the 1st Prelude.  Luckily I managed to get way, WAY over what it was worth on px for the Lexus.

9. June 2018.
With few contacts in the motor trade and no real budget for advertising, I began by bidding on Shiply.
Two things stand out about the Shiply experience from the point of view of a transporter.  You have to put in a hell of a lot of quotes before anyone bites, and you will absolutely always be outbid sooner or later.
Anyway, I picked up a job after a couple of days… A Daihatsu Fourtrak to be collected from a dealer just up the road in Tamworth and delivered to Plymouth.  I turned up as soon as the dealer opened and got loaded up.

The trip down the M5 was familiar as I’d been doing a run down to the West Country in the job I’d just quit…  The new owners’ address was easily found just off the A38; They’d just had to scrap their identical Fourtrak with terminal rust, but the new one looked in good nick and they were pretty chuffed with it having bought it unseen.

My next job was another trip down the M5, although this time only as far as Somerset, and I wouldn’t be making a profit.

I’d roffled my Omega to raise some funds for the Sorento and trailer, but my Saab 900 was harder to move on as it had no mot and needed work.  I finally sold it to chatsharris for a low, low price and agreed to deliver for the cost of diesel. Again, I made an early start, my destination Radstock.  Papped on arrival:

The access to the rear of Chats’s house was too narrow for the trailer unfortunately, so we unloaded in the street and pushed the Saab round the back.  The 900 is surprisingly heavy for an ‘80s car – I think they’re about 1500kg – and we were sweating by the time we had it in place.
Chats had a thread about his efforts to get the Saab back on the road but he sold it before doing so.  I recall him saying the next owners were intending to restore it, but it no longer appears on the DVLA database so presumably it’s now been scrapped.

Yeah, sorry - it was the right car but the wrong time. Breaking up with my fiancée and moving out of the house didn't help at all, plus the driveway was quite unsuitable for jacking up/learning to weld.

I did get it running (fairly soon after you'd left which was annoying!) and fixed a fair bit though, then sold it for a profit to that guy. Not sure it'll ever see the road again unfortunately. I did manage to drive it the furthest I ever did though, about 200 yards onto a low loader and never saw it again.

I had also kept the wheel trims separate and sold them for some extra free profit.

Was a pleasure to do business with you though, 10/10 would do again.

10. Ah. I happened to come across your advert the other day when browsing Facebook on cars for sale.
I believe Ghosty has money burning a hole in his pocket after selling the Jag and is on the lookout for something. Iirc he said that he likes Preludes a lot and as he was experiencing car trouble, thought I'd point him in your direction.
Only single change at Birmingham train station when going from Manchester to Bristol Temple Meads too.

Hm. There may be commission for your efforts

11. Done that job on a Saab 9-5. Was quite easy with the cooler lines disconnected. Just make sure you put exactly the same amount in as you take out.
Also isn't this your old Prelude / chatsharris one:

(Just say'in like)
No, this is the one I got from JohnK a couple of years back (the one I took to Shitefest).

Ghosty's old Prelude is staying with me.

12. Whoa, seven months and bugger all update.

Well, the truth is that sadly this did take a bit of a back seat lately, buying my ex out of my house was a costly exercise and didn't really leave much room for frivolous purchases such as insurance, and I had somewhere safe to leave it for the time.

I did get a spot in Retro Cars though about my two though which is neat. I even wore them as shoes, like I promised. It was much harder than I thought.

Recently though, I had a bit of spare cash with not being able to go out, so I got it insured, and during a required visit to work, took the Prelude home and gave it a damn good cleaning. I wish I took before pictures, but I always forget to. However, it came up beautifully. I am planning to move the original prelude on, and put more effort into this one. 720832aa1ed8a45b7dd5a02db4a2181b.jpg881c8dd2aa01d76a108e59277920282e.jpg

13. So today I had planned in for a while, to get the exhaust changed at my mechanics and to get both CV joints changed.

He called me this afternoon to inform me not only had he managed to get these jobs sorted without any dramas, he was also able to get a last second MOT test done before I picked it up due to a last minute cancellation.

Winner winner. The whole list of jobs cost the same as one CV boot change with t'other fuckwit. Bargainn
