  1. Was the Colt the one with hi and low range gearbox?
Do you have any pictures of any of them?
Yup , some of the ratios duplicated so there was about 6 usable gears , I had a green one like the photo, it was bought from John Clark ( has a bit of an empire up here) as a trade sale ,he used it for his holiday car in Spain so had lhd headlights , his mechanics nicknamed it kermit.
As for photos only got for the Fuego & Acclaim I will try and up load, film was dear so back in the day cars only appeared in the background when filming family and friends .b2b00233bf47110e7403a4e269a49d91.jpg

  2. I've owned 17 cars between 83-89 , unfortunately after that was a company car man , now van man.

I've forgot 2 but here's the list I do remember, apart from the 205 which was bought new (big mistake) all the others cost less than a grand, usually as the were in distress.

As far as I'm aware only the mgb still exists HSS 755N

The Mexico ,I scrapped keeping the engine , after market alloys , steering wheel and sunroof.

  3. I think the mileage would take me the rest of my life to clock up!  New cars do nothing for me, so I'd step sideways and go for a Transit: ideally L2H1 with twin sliders, windowed; and the extended cabin.  And a towbar.  Even with an auto box it should come in budget.
1995?  As others have discussed, a lovely RWD Volvo estate, job done.
This one I took last week , OK 1 year out 1996 , but 162K and not too much on the advisories , shame he's just outside the 30yr rule for our impending ulez doom which comes in force in June up here.9f814b41b8878974701c52973612ba45.jpg

  4. Electric cars pure and simple , the government dictated 20% of new cars sold this year must be EV or risk heavy fines per units , this will rise to 80% in 2030, ah but I hear you say I don't drive an EV , correct but that not how insurance works , same as a RR owner does not pay a premium to reflect of a £300k motor , it's spread amongst the masses , until the government legislates for Tesla & co to open up software & battery info to all the cost of repairs ain't going down.

  5. Wasn't sure whether to put this in the motor trade or grin thread, but because it's a grin it's going in here.
Customer phoned up a couple of weeks to book in his self diagnosed failed clutch
I asked what the problem is...
"Yeah, the revs shoot up when changing gear"
On the face of it, this sounded like a slipping clutch.
He dropped it off and as I got in it to move it, I was surprised that my knee wasn't touching the headlining by the time the bite point was found - the clutch seemed absolutely fine.
Instead of putting it on a ramp for the clutch to be replaced as requested, even though he's not asked for a diagnosis, I thought I'd take it for a quick spin.
    Sure enough, change gear, VROOOOOOM
But, the key difference here is that it went VROOOOOOM when pressing the clutch down... so it can't be slipping can it!!
Redlining it and then dumping the clutch in 4th gear resulted in a nice quick drop of revs, so it definitely isn't slipping...
The engine was holding onto it's revs...
    Because....
The clutch pedal position switch was faulty! A £15 part!
    Bloody moderns..
In other words, the car didn't know the clutch was pressed so it was building revs up by itself
That could have been an expensive costly error on the customer's part!
I was pretty pleased with myself and for him that I had the foresight to actually give it a quick spin just in case.. The most tragic thing is that he could have spent £500 on a new clutch to find it was exactly the same afterwards..
It gets better my son's bmw 118i clutch starts slipping , ecu figures out rpm and speed don't match parameters and goes into limp mode. At least it saves the flywheel.
I have a small ramp so not too bad to do but Jesus, spend half the night removing and refitting under trays, what an amount of screws.
