"I would recommend Sandford Orchards in Crediton. Not much of a detour off the A30/A38. They sell from the farm gate, was about £30 for 40pints last time I bought, they've an award winning scrumpy (which I can and have drunk all day) and some chewy cheesy dry numbers if you're that way inclined (try Shaky Bridge)."

How is it that you don't visit the places close to home?  only 5 miles for me  -  not so much a farm gate as an old cider factory on an industrial estate;  would a couple of 40 pinters be acceptable at Shitefest - and I wouldn't want to take any home. Bring your own tankard.

AND  there is Hanlon's brewery on the Crediton to Exeter road at Half Moon for the dipsomaniacally inclined

    Yesterday I won this

Which is effectively going to replace the civic and the xantia.

Picked car from a bodywork guy in foreign lands (Yorkshire).

First thoughts are that I think it has been sitting for a while but started straight up. Apart from service bits and potentially a cambelt everything seems to be good with it. Comes pre dented.

Current is differently abled tax so that will need to be changed.

Windscreen has small crack in passenger side.

Runs really cold, this is after 30 miles of motorway

Mind you it honks. Properly honks. Not as much as the focus I got from Shadow but not far off.

    List of jobs

    Oil change
    Spark plugs
    Air filter
    Thermostat
    Rear boot struts
    Front discs and pads
    Cam belt plus bits
    Ball joints
    Drop links
    Rear anti roll bar bushes
    Stereo code
    Windscreen crack
Swimming pool emptied from boot wheel well
    Seal rear light clusters

And a big does of cleaning

LJKS liked 14's and recommended a front air dam; I don't know if it did any good but it looked good. I fitted two spot lights behind the grille and it never overheated despite being run to the redline regularly as one would with 1218cc and 5 up on the M32 grand prix. The front wings come off easily that made my annual waxoyling by brush a clean exercise. I did oil changes every 3,000 miles that kept the gear box happy - the accumulated used oil kept a Morris 1800 topped up at 200 miles/pint.
    Those were the days!

We had a CF2 Autosleeper with the Opel engine;  got nearly 30mpg frpm Devon to Skye and back, quite happy at 50mph.  The Autosleeper has a fibreglass shell and is probably more waterproof than the coachbuilt conversions.  The CF2 has disc front brakes and as long as you take it steady it is quite good on the road.  But one of the ball joints is special to the CF2 and is scarce - a handful of e-bay ads a year if you are lucky.  Ours had been ziebarted from new so hadn't rusted in the cab section.  Only got a newer one so we had seat belts for the grandchildren, don't even think about fitting them to the lengthwise bench seats as the injuries can be severe.

been today to pick up the jaguar from the local specialist's garage.

it been and had a full service, traction control thing cleaned up and codes reset, replacement proper XJR front springs fitted and the a/c overhauled with a new condenser.

so everything now works, and works as it should.

it could do with a replacement washer dryer thingy for the a/c at some point and the high pressure pipe too isn't as clever has it could be.

the other springs were we think just normal xj6 ones given how it had sagged down to just above the bump stops in 2 years, so i'm hoping that these new ones will fair better, plus it rides so much better now its not bottoming out on pot holes..... but it has chewed off the inside shoulders of the front tires so i have had to change those too.

the cost of all this? the bills have come in around a grand, which i had budgeted for.

hence the grin (it could have been worse....), and having the XJR driving like new again. now just to get the thing used.....

About as popular as herpes but we have done 60K in ours without any issues  - the bench rear seat can be sold (they used to go for strong money) and a single or pair of sep seats installed without issue in the boot area.

Unless the timing belt has been done its on borrowed time and due to the issues with injectors rusting into the head on these if it goes it will write the head off.
