    After.

Stabbed a bulb in a 40yr old lamp and flicked the switch...
Now I can work in to the night without issue, gonna be a godsend when the winter comes with the miserable early darkness.

Oh and for old times sake, dads old RR parked in front of this same shed 30yrs ago..

    Amazing really.

Sharp eyed viewers might notice I've swapped the wheels for LR Wolf rims with Cooper STT Pro tyres. They're the ones I had on my Series 3, so no cost there, and I had a load of old 205's on standard rims to pop on the Series 3 which is currently enjoying a new life on loan to a Dutch friend as a travelling home:

and occasional reminder for people with more money than sense  Ineos Grenade buyers of what they could've won:

But you didn't come to this thread to see pictures of a knackered old Series.
The RRC is brilliant off road. Better than the Series in almost every situation, and far more comfortable. Plus much more reassuring in tight spots.
    Like this one:

So, to end this thread, if you've ever fancied an old RRC I would say go for it. Yes, they drink fuel. But you knew that, and they're otherwise pretty robust and can be mended with spanners and a welder. They're much nicer than an overpriced Defender and far more useful. All the costs of mine are in this thread - I've spent under £1800 to get to this stage.
Go and buy one, kit it out and come and have a play in the mud 😎

Which left us with a good sight of the floors. As every RRC victim knows, these are generally holier than the pope. In this case it seemed we'd got off with something more like a provincial bishop:

Rear body X member looks a bit pious, mind:

and sure enough, some attention from the grinder produced:

What I haven't mentioned is that the RRC was minging. Really minging.
Covered in slime on the outside it had been stood under trees for most of the past year. The interior was gopping, with a niff so fucking awful I wished I'd brought at least a covid mask, or maybe a welding one. Everything was soaking wet and mouldy, apart from the seats. Frigging hell, it was as miuch as I could do to get in and move it, especially as the wndows wouldn't open. Nasty.
Anyway, we wobbled off past the millionaires, sat in traffic on the M25 and eventually groaned onto the M4, the poor old Disco massing all its 111 horses to drag 3t of trailer and stinking Range Rover westwards.
Eventually we stopped for another wee. Too mucn tea, y'see

Had a short day at work today so managed to get outside for an hour and clean the wheels with actual wheel cleaner, and also washed it again by hand rather than jet wash brush on pole.

Im so bloody happy with this thing.

Ok so the plan was to go racing and that involved getting the car up to standard on the cheap. I had forgotten how rusty cars from Scotland can be.

I recently bought a rusty E46 325ti (the compact one) with the intention of having some fun with it in some future events and making a mini-series on Youtube.
Its not the prettiest thing in the world but it runs (now) and drives in enough of a straight line that it is usable.

Far roo much choice on the tube for car repair/renovation  etc, stuff that's way better and less manufactured  drama/fluff and actual content - tbh usually some seriously more entertaining and interesting  stuff for free on YT.

I did use it for towing (once) and recall a ‘tank-slapper’ moment on the way to the dump with a small trailer when I was driving a little too ambitiously..

    I can’t wait.

    HOWEVER……..

The front crossmember is 85mm or under 3” off the ground, as is the exhaust as well.

Meaning the “wild” for this will be fast A&B roads.

You can’t quite see how low it is there, but that join is also 3” off the ground, unfortunately.
Had I raised the engine by 30mm and set it back by 30mm it would have been better, but hey…… first time doing this, working blindly.

And a clip of the gusseting I did on the whole chassis, every possible movement or twisting point.
Along with the complete polybushing of the suspension it should be reasonably decent.

And final testing of all the switchgear, lights etc before stripping, to ensure it all worked.

You can see how low mileage this car was, at 68k miles, but rotten as a pear.

And minus the catalytic converter, hence the £400.00 delivered and scrap removed price.

    Thank you very much.
I guess I had to plan and then plan my plans in order to get the pieces to fit.
I also have a complete, (disposed of, due to vandalism/theft) truck curtainside that hooks into hooks on the front bearer of the roof, thus closing the front in if needed.

I am a big “recycler” as in, I am tight and always happy to collect “free cash” so the build was a lot less than if I just called in a builder to do the job.

A pallet and half of breeze blocks became building materials for a friend and I used a few to carve ornaments from.

    Free cash……..

Congratulations, R75s have their own parking spaces at garden centres and doctors surgeries.
It might be inferior to the Merc but it's got a wooden steering wheel, so... swings and roundabouts.
