Good man. Rover were ahead of the game with the streetwise. Considering everything since is that style.

I thought I'd put this up here as it sits nicely with a few other shonky Toyota threads.

There's something about an F reg that just draws me in... I'd just started a large building project last year and definitely didn't have time or cash to spare on it, but it popped up in ebay one evening and I saved it in the watch list. You know, just in case. It looked surprisingly clean from the pictures and on googling the plate this came up.

Expecting it to go for Covid project money I chucked in a low bid to amuse myself and let me move on, only to win it at £412. Wife not impressed, meaning I then had to balance with some garden furniture. And then pay to get it moved to Kent. So, not that cheap then.

Anyway, the guy I bought it off told me the usual story of 'track car', how he'd changed the engine for a starlet one then never got any further so swapped the old engine back in and sold up. I paid the money and then a car transport guy offered recovery cheap on a return leg. Then began a very long weeks wait.

To my relief it turned up and was clean, no rust and plenty of beige, with a whole load of parts in the boot. Annoyingly though the old engine was just bolted up to the box and doesn't look there's a release bearing there.

With the kids getting a bit older and a garage to now work in, I've just started this week. Plan is to remove the engine, do the belts, water pump, clearances, clutch etc and then just drive it.

It is back together again and I've washed it since this picture was taken.  It has new number plates, some better wheel trims, a new steering wheel, better gas struts.  The last stages of getting it all to line up properly and getting all the plastics clipped back take a while but thankfully when I stripped the scrap car I also took every possible spare plastic clip - never regret that.  It also has a couple of almost new part work Falken tyres which are supposed to be very quiet and do seem to be.  It is also running on gas again as I repaired a broken plastic part and have leak tested the whole thing.
I may yet need to do the head gasket as it was driven back with no water in it - and it really had just a trickle in it.  I really don't like cheap head gasket sets so I have bought the cheapest on ebay, an old stock QH one so I'm ready and some old stock Payen bolts.
Need to align the headlights which I will probably get done at my MOT garage 'between MOTs' for a bit of cash.
The cars ok but I'm exhausted.

What a fun weekend. It was really nice to meet everyone, although I've forgotten everyone's names already.  We'll just have to do it again I reckon.
    Friday
We set off from a drizzly Central Scotland with a small detour planned.

This is the Paul Tavernor gallery in Poynton which Mrs Juular had been wanting to visit for ages.
Those who know her will know why.

The detour turned out to be a good thing as we completely missed the grim queue on the M6 at Wigan and sailed uneventfully along the M56 and A55.
As some already commented, the A55 is surprisingly scenic and feels a bit like a stage on Ridge Racer.
Entry to the site was easy to find.

The 240 gained a well deserved rest in SCOTCH CORNER which @davidfowler2000had handily set up.

I must admit I tore into the beer fairly early and don't remember much after the banner went up.

    Saturday
Saturdays train trip was exactly the right thing to be doing on a scorchio day with a hangover.

The slate museum, also a great surprise given that it's free entry.
The waterwheel is a sight to behold, plus it was freezing in there which was just what I needed.
    The Volvo representation was superb.

I rubbed my thighs to the bone over @alcyonecorporation's Amazon.

    My other personal favourite.

    Countertop dog.

    Sunday
@Lacquer Peel and myself are similar in the sense that while we enjoy socialising, and while everyone there was absolutely sound, we both get a bit overwhelmed with it all and decided to check out the bomb store in Llanberis.
    What a place.

We then headed home in convoy over the twisties via Betws-y-Coed and the A5.

What a beautiful place, we intend to return with the campervan soon and explore it better.
Total journey, 664 miles. The 240 was an absolute trooper and was such a pleasant place to be at all times. I have never had such a relaxing drive up the M6, and yet, it also dealt with the twisty Welsh roads in the most hilarious way. All in it returned just over 35mpg which is rather decent.

Thanks also to whoever was handing out the Saffron Buns, as it made a nice supper when we got home.

Cheers all. See you again next time.

I am unable to attend . Pity has its  not that far this time. My step father passed away last week and emptying his house,  before handing back to council is proving time consuming. The charity could only collect his un needed furniture this Saturday. So that's me doing that. Never mind. Weather looks amazing and it's a beautiful place. So enjoy  one and all and hopefully it's excellent and it's back there next year.
