  1. Quentin Wilson? Didn’t he also front up one of those fuel catalyst bag things?
  2. Thanks mate, there were points where you wonder what you have you got yourself into. And it’s still far from perfect, but for not of a lot of money it’s a 100% rust free mechanically sound car. First drive went very well. Temperature remained stable, it felt great on the road, tracking spot on. I think the synchro on 3rd is a little tired but still ok for the moment. Starts well from hot or cold. But I have put my back out when I dropped the keys at the end! Sod’s law.....
  3. 5 years and 11 months to the day I bought it and the Capri has passed its MoT. Hundreds of hours of welding and mechanical work but thankfully not much cash and I now have a Capri on the road for the first time in 30 years.
  4. MoT passed! And first proper drive in a car I have owned for 5 years and 11 months. I could not have imagined the amount of work needed when I started but it has been worth it!
  5. Retest day! Just waiting for a call to take it down. Should be this morning with any luck.
  6. Proper bike https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/James-Captain-K7-motorcycle-1955/333681100093?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131231084308%26meid%3D4cba5801e17143fb87af1048a396ef44%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D324257483021%26itm%3D333681100093%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic&_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109 had a few James but never this model Captain
  7. Can I have some of what he has been smoking
  8. I would love a Bedford Rascal with a big V8 or V12 mid engined RWD although I am not sure how long I would love to enjoy it.
  9. But is that Median, mean or mode? A few people earning hundreds of millions can off set a lot of people earning below the 30k. My guess is that the majority of people don’t come close to that £30k
  10. And it manages to survive more than a shower without becoming a swimming pool. How much fiction do they expect us to take?
  11. Yup that is exactly what that spacer is for. It’s coming on!
  12. Don’t let a few people piss you off mate. Whatever anyone thinks you have had a hard time recently and this has been a positive for you, don’t let it get to you.
  13. With paint and fitting around £2k wouldn’t be out of the question. Metallics can be hard to match so you need a decent place.
  14. I think the difference is that the sorts of things that kill cars has changed. Scrappies look like car parks now with rows of rust free cars with electronic problems that are too expensive to bother sorting. When my Capri was in for its MoT this week the old guy who runs the place brought the young lad over to look at it. He was gobsmacked how much space there was and his first questions was ‘where are all the cables?’ I think he thought we were lying when we said you could run an engine with less than half a dozen wires.
  15. You don’t seem to understand how the MoT works. Look at things like an Austin 7 special, ally panels riveted to make a tub and bolted onto a chassis, or a beetle based beach buggy - fibreglass tub on a steel floor pan.. The key is that it isn’t a monocoque.
  16. First point - it only needs to structurally repaired if it is a structural area. The prescribed areas are listed in the regs and I don’t see the boot closing panel or wing being structural as they do not form part of a monocoque or are close to suspension mounts etc. Second point - there are far far more dangerous motors than this on the road and Eddy is doing his best to preserve this for a bit longer. I have to admit to wincing at any use of rivets and fibreglass in the ways used here, but I am lucky enough to own a welder. Go for it Eddy.
  17. Some funky two tone on that Escort! I wonder if he got the paint code wrong.
  18. I was once asked to park my old Volvo 240 around the back as it was making a bad impression. It meant I got a private parking space so I didn’t give a toss but how sad is that?
  19. They are that cheap for a reason. One of those cost my mate a fortune and broke his will to live so badly he replaced it with a Vauxhall Mokka.
  20. Period in style possibly but I have older food in my fridge and common as muck and shite even when new. A nice set of original steels would look soooooo much better.
  21. Whip the head off and fingers crossed. Are oversized pistons available if needed?
