I should add... it was strapped down before we went off. Also, inspected at regular intervals!

If anything pops up around Cambs or Watford let me know and I’ll scout it.

Good luck with the search. My dear old Grandad was very fond of his, and I took it on after his passing.

One door is slightly different in colour. Otherwise it’s a fantastic example of a pre face lift 6 cylinder w124. It’s worth more than the asking so snap it up!

Ha. My first job was reporting on the fuel depot protests in 2000. 87.9p in Ipswich was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The Rover is a much maligned Car, but the v6 is sonic perfection and returns a good 37 on a run!

I agree that 100 miles a day at 26mpg is a little self indulgent! I bought mine in 2012 ( for my 40th birthday ) and the First time I filled up it was £1.40a litre! I have a history of buying cars in fuel crises. I’d just bought my first CX in 1999 and the lorry drivers started protesting when I think it was 85p a litre. Thankfully that had an extra large PO spec tank.

It’s a lovely engine; a real lazy old school slogger. They make a wolf cry when provoked too.

I shouldn’t have sold it really, but the lure of a launch Rover 75 that I could run daily on a 100 mile commute was too much to resist.

The turbo kettle is quite fun actually - 150 BHP and a good shove too.

    Thanks dude. Appreciate it.

I don't think this will interest you but the guy I bought the 620ti off messaged me yesterday to say that he's got a 2004 75 1.8t for sale if i knew anyone, it was the replacement car to my 620 but the mot ran out and he bought a Saab, it's done over 100k but will have a new service and mot and he's looking for around £695. I just liked the interior.

Has to be a bargain. I use mine as my everyday car, they are quite happy doing that. I know I will regret saying so, but all mine has needed outside a service this last 12months has been a pair of tie rods and the tracking setting up afterwards.
It’s also really, really, fun when you out accelerate modern BMWs ( in 3rd gear in an automatic!)
mine has the later 24v engine, but the 300 goes on forever without any problems as long as you regard the distributor as a yearly service item.

I owned this w124 before Doug. It is brilliant. I sold it to buy something more usable, but regret it. I put my w202 for sale to buy this back but no bites.

Ha that’s just reminded me of when I had a Mercedes key ring on the set of keys I had for a Sierra when I’d be about 17 in the hope of fooling young ladies into thinking I had a Merc. What the fuck was I thinking... what planet was I on?

My mate has a six month old Movano minibus. Broke down on Wednesday. Recovered to main dealer and the clutch had gone. So new one fitted under warranty. It has done a full six thousand miles. All Vauxhall etc.

Just buying up the bits as they come available. There’s no favouritism or agenda; a new rear quarter came up at a favourable price and I bought it.

The dude who did the bodywork said he’d be able to bring up that rear arch to a very high standard, and was very complimentary of Richard’s work. But he also agreed that if the panels came up, and the price was favourable, to buy them.

My feelings on the car haven’t changed. I don’t want a concourse car, but it must look like someone loves it - and it must be preserved with not the short or medium but long term in mind. It’d be a very very convincing argument that made me feel differently.
