I think history will show he was on the right side of the argument. Granted, it would have sorted itself out organically - but nonetheless we are where we are.

Just go full fuck-it and do this while you can.
Our CTO did 130k in his from new before he chopped it in for a newer model. I'm sure it was cheap to run in that time.

Just sold this. I got a CoC from Porsche and got it listed with TfL as ULEZ compliant. Was an easy and free process.
Its not my kind of car but wow are they good to drive. Incredibly quick, sound fabulous and handle amazingly whilst being compliant enough to not destroy your spine.

So just to be clear on the rules - most petrol stuff from 2001 onwards will be compliant, everything petrol from 2006 onwards will be. Nothing pre-2001 will be (not by default anyway, i know it's possible to make them compliant if you submit a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer to TfL but I'm guessing that's more practical for a Porsche or something rather than a 1996 Hyundai Lantra). Imports will only work if they're 2006-on.
I would have suggested @Stanky's Sirion but he's just taken it off sale, the selfish bastard.

stuff back to the very early 2000s is sometimes compliant, often if the engine is a fairly new design the manufacturer may have planned to use past the then-impending euro 4 changes

My 2002 BMW 330 is allowed in Bristol Birmingham and London (and any others on Euro 4 petrol rules)

You can still hop on 1972 vintage trains in London. The oldest significant use rolling stock in use in the country. Suffix K reg.

Radio in the 205 had been acting up,so decided to replace it with this Top quality* two knob Harrier that I'd bought at a boot sale the last time I was in Norfolk for not very much.
    It only works 😁

    Looks period correct too.

Not many, because pre digital and all that - here's when I bought it from an ad in the Sporting Escorts owners club magazine

The whole reason I bought this one was because my parents had an identical T-reg (local FN registered) from 1980-until the mid 90's

As mentioned before, when dad sold it, I kept the Serck plates, which to this day are in the shed

love it. I'd be inclined to bin those red Ford badges too, even though I used to have them on my old Capri and thought they were cool

It’s been a busy week in motoring pursuits. On Monday I started a new job which necessitates commuting to London. I decided that a scooter to the train station (plus as a back up for train strikes) would be a good idea - and did my CBT accordingly. It was a complete fucking farce start to finish, but enabled me to get the necessary paperwork at the end. Then, @Turbowomble advertised his wonderful Supercub and I bought it, had it shipped, and it arrived Monday.

Since then, I’ve not ridden it 80 miles owing to a bizarre idiosyncrasy. Bikes in Northern Ireland have their first MOT at 4 years (who knew?!). England does not - so now the DVLA says no MOT records available and I can’t tax it. Shame, as it weirdly works anyway.
I’m absolutely delighted with it - they’re very willing little things and good for 60 even with 19 stone of man onboard.
MOT this week then, and I’ve got another car rocking up too.

Sierra went to a little run out last week and behaved relatively well, albeit the battery is kippered. It then disgraced itself by boiling over when I was parking it up in the shed. Bit of a pisser! A few shots below of my faves.

That's brilliant.  Tatty and honest - just the ticket.
I remember in 1999 I was 16 and me and my mate knew another guy who was a year older than us and he'd just passed his test.  Lovely guy - Christian family - and his NAN insisted that her car went to him.  Robert therefore had a brown Mk2 Escort on a V plate and everyone (other than me) felt sorry for him.  His contemporaries had Clios, Fiestas, the odd 205 and Novas - and he had to park his Mk2 Escort around the corner to avoid getting RINSED by his mates.
    Nowadays, he'd be everyone's hero.
Same with Cortinas.  Our caretaker had a brace of MK5 Cortinas and by 1999 I remember marvelling at them in the school playground thinking 'Fucking hell they look shit nowadays'.  They were both 17 years old, my daily is now 25.
Crazy how things change so quickly.
Anyway, enough bumbling of the insane - well bought @HMC

What he says ^ Centre punch them first, central as best as you can, then start off with a smallish drill and eye it for centre. You can make small adjustments one way or other with the bit to get it as central as you can, then go for it. Hold it level in a vice if you can.
Pierburgs were rubbish 25 years ago. I was throwing them in the bin and replacing them with Webers as a matter of course when buying different cars to prevent hassle.
