  1. £3,600 for this car, by Sierra prices of 2023 certainly, is very fair. Plenty of Sapphire guys would be asking £4-5 for this and would probably get it. Yes, £3,600 buys you a much better Mercedes 124 and a perfect Camry/Corolla etc. But, sell this next month and I genuinely think you’d get every penny back. So the purchase price on the P&L is £0 really. The interior, which is almost irreplaceable, is lovely. You will have a queue of buyers by the time you’ve finished titivating. Honestly.
  2. As the Irish say - that’s grand so it is. Honestly - you’ll be fine. A nice buy.
  3. Harrowing thought. This car is now older than the bASe was when I picked it up. Funny how the brain plays horrible tricks, but that’s a fact. My old heap was four years younger when it first came to stay. You’ve definitely bought a better one. By a million miles. There’s always a crash of emotions after a purchase, but it’s definitely got the right owner (more than the base can say) and will be splendid in no time. Hope to see it.
  4. *It. Who knows. It’s all guess work isn’t it. Reading what Red5 has already done; I’d say the work that he did has stopped Dez from barbecuing himself in a plastic sauce. Whether that time and knowledge was available at a field with no mains electricity ? Who knows.
  5. My view (on the basis that it’s a discussion forum) ? If you want to run about London and the rest of Europe in such an absurd contraption, then go for it. I’d have an easier job convincing my neighbours that I’m also a lesbian than DEZ to drive something sensible. But, it’s completely on DEZ to do it. It’s your car to repair, yours to source spares for, yours to maintain. You will need to build a perfect relationship with a garage and you’ll need to be patient. The skills needed here are in infinitely small supply; when you find someone good you need to treat them like your own mother. Nurture that relationship, and you’ll be good. That means, in my experience, popping in with biscuits - tipping generously - thanking them profusely - sending a Christmas card and not chasing unless it’s critical. The guy welding my Mini has had it a year and not started; but it’ll come back beautiful and not cost a lot. He is an absolutely vital part of my “old shit eco-system”. In summary, I need him and he absolutely doesn’t need me. In fact, he could do without shitty jobs like this and concentrate on easy insurance work and be just as wealthy and i dare say happier! Nothing would make me smile more than this old thing skipping through the tulips of Amsterdam. But it’s time to take 100% responsibility and ownership of it. And be patient. I still think you’re a year away from this being a viable, road-going concern.
  6. He’ll be back within a month. His ego is too great to surrender 35,000 followers/disciples/cash donors. He’s just temporarily de-activated until the heat dies down. 😉
  7. Is RedFünf ok? That is my only concern. Proper decent guy in my experience and was very straightforward to deal with. If anyone knows him - drop him a text and say I and a few others were asking after him.
  8. The crowdfunder explicitly said get the car off his plate and restored for him to enjoy. I’d imagine it was that bit.
  9. Inevitable is unfolding on Twitter/X Chris Pollitt has another episode of depression. Crowdfunder tries to raise a few bob for him. Accidentally raises nearly £20,000. Car is quickly restored and immediately on the market at a chunky price. Folk feel a bit aggrieved. Anyone who raises an eyebrow will be quickly shut down. I try to see everything positively, but it all feels a bit charlatan.
  10. Opel Senator Longboi edition.
  11. Smashing 850 estate here... Hopefully you can see it because a) photo compression on Autoshite and 2) might be a closed group. https://www.facebook.com/commerce/listing/678278961179261/?media_id=1&ref=share_attachment
  12. I'm pleased this has been such a success (at least with the uptake). I would like to go but don't really like the Sierra being front and centre. It's a car, not a showpiece, and thus happier with it being in the car park out of the way where people can unluckily happen across it. Will there be visitor tix etc?
  13. First time in ages I’ve read something on Facebook and genuinely laughed.
  14. I had some off of Lakeland (Middle-class AF) but, in truth, they're not as effective after five or six recharges. They also become hotter than the surface of the fucking sun after 30 seconds in the microwave, so you have to weigh up the inconvenience of any icy screen against the pain of third degree burns. It's the thing that stops me rocking the Sierra 12 months of the year tbh.
  15. I swept a chimney today. I might write elsewhere how I'm making some pretty chunky changes to life in a bid to find true, unabated contentment. Part of this is increasing self reliance, so I thought I'd give it a go. The National Association of Chimney Sweeps will claim I'm putting lives at risk, but their members charge £100 for what took me 20 minutes (rarely used chimney) and have a vested interest. I have to say, I really enjoyed it! Borrowed a set of rods from a neighbour, the brush was conveniently the perfect size and I didn't end proceedings looking like a Golliwog either. Managed to dislodge a sensible amount of soot, and a few twigs from the circling Jackdaws. Next job is to get a little man up on the roof to fit the cap I was gifted by another neighbour. Final Score: Daniel 1 - 0 Consumerism.
  16. Please do get involved, continue to get involved and never ever stop. One - it makes you a decent human and B - I absolutely love reading about these endless jams and japes you end up involved in.
  17. I took the Sierra to PH event one year. We were made to feel very unwelcome; felt like lepers who’d escaped the colony and were storming the nudist beach. Never ever again.
  18. That - at even £2k (seems to be about the cheapest) - it does nothing that something else wouldn’t do better at the same price. It doesn’t particularly have a party trick other than low entry price, but even those rakish good looks aren’t enough to tempt me when something consumable is going to take weeks to turn up from the Great Bunch of Lads. This is proper public service broadcasting here - God’s work. Thanks for doing it so I don’t have to!
  19. You don’t have an easement in place do you? If you own your house, it’s a simple procedure. I’d wager he wouldn’t have parked like that if you had a legitimate right of way across the pathway. If you rent, it’s worth asking the landlord if you can pay for it or help with the process. In reality, he’s not done anything wrong. I wouldn’t have done it myself, but that’s life.
  20. Top, top work. This is proper masochism and genuine jeopardy; the likes of which has been missing for some time. Reminds me of when I picked up that terrible Sierra and immediately pressed it into an ‘against the clock London-MK stampede’. Nothing like gambling your future financial viability and mental state on a car so shit that nobody wanted them even brand new. Top banana.
  21. Right. I see. The comment was moderated on my behalf because I'm not in full possession of my faculties, and the self imposed referee was actually trying to save me from myself. They realised, before I did so myself, that I either didn't mean what I said or that I wouldn't want it on public record. It's a nice reply, chap. Although it doesn't actually address the direct question. A little bit like when a politician is asked a question and they reply "well, I think a more important question is what are we doing to help people with their energy bills". What, of the rules listed in the 'how we do things' thread, did I break? Calling someone a cauliflower isn't a hate crime. I'll address your question directly. Why was the post written in the first place? Because he, more than anyone, was derailing the thread. It was made in defence of a long term member who actually contributes to the community, rather than rocking up and picking fights with people. I'll save you the hassle of replying to my question - I'd rather you were out enjoying your spare time. You're welcome to make the decision you all think best fits the brand guidelines of Autoshite 2.0.
  22. Right. Let's get down to brass tacks here. As listed by noble motorist @brownnova - None of those rules were broken. That's not even with my biased, loose approach to rules in general. None of them. Interestingly, the 'Welcome to Autoshite' thread suggests 'not being a dick'. Someone who drives an unregistered, uninsured vehicle on the King's highway is - by default - a dick. Finally, No reason has been put for my post being hidden. Only that the self appointed moderator who seems to enjoy chastising me has hidden it for review. This isn't difficult stuff, you know? In fact - it seems to be quite difficult to continually fuck something up so consistently.
  23. Just so we are absolutely clear, I expect the post to be reinstated pretty sharpish. The team of moderators has no mandate, have been appointed through a series of coronations via other ‘kingpins’ with no mandate, and have no authority to decide what can be said and what can be heard. Genuinely. If the feelings of a pillock who uses a vehicle illegally and without insurance trump the thoughts of someone who’s contributed to this community for eight years, we’ll call it a day now.
