  1. The exhaust can block on them. We had a sale van do it so badly it wouldn't go over 40. In fact it wouldn't rev to max with no load on until we disconnected the egr pipe, whereupon it would
  2. It figures. I put a pair on 2 years ago and one definitely knocks on rebound. The original Renault shocks lasted 240k Kms, and these, about 40k.
  3. I should stop using that garage if that's the kind of rubbish they fit. What make of shock was it?
  4. Did the last rusty brake pipe on the motorhome this morning.
  5. I've had far more problems with over tightened can filters than with the plastic housing caps. Especially since the metal thickness in the can filters was reduced to that of tinfoil.
  6. Look on it as a savings scheme.
  7. I spent the afternoon on my brother in law's Peugeot J5. It had a test last December which it failed, so the rear air springs were replaced, and it was resealed at a camper specialist, then collected by me to have the other test work done, mainly welding and problems with the lights. One thing and another, including COVID-19 intervened and it couldn't be retested until early this month, where it failed on brake efficiency and the fact that 6 months of sitting around had caused lots of metal brake pipes to rot. Basically every pipe from the cab backwards. The tester said the efficiency problems were mainly down to the fact that the back brakes were doing very little. He attributed that to problems with the rear compensator. I started on the brakes last Saturday and completed making up and fitting all the rear pipes and a new compensator today. There's one other pipe to replace in the front wheel arch.
  8. One of my early cars was a Vauxhall Magnum, which had had the tops of the inner wings repaired with corrugated cardboard and underseal. I was so naive I thought that the owner might be honest, as he was a copper!
  9. It was almost too cheap then, some of the companies, Greenmotion in particular made it up by withholding damage deposits. Sometimes hire after hire for the same tiny scratch.
  10. Yes, at the moment, for a KA or equivalent you are paying something like 1% of the car's price to buy for a day's hire, €650 for 3 days. It's probably down to the extreme shortage of new cars.
  11. They were a subsidiary of East Lancs, I believe. The Guy Arabs from Neepsend looked the same as the ones from East Lancs. Edit: Not a subsidiary, both member companies of the John Brown Group.
  12. Nearly all the Lancashire municipalities used to support the local product, although there were a few holdouts. In Cardiff, where I grew up they used East Lancs coachbuilders or their subsidiaries for many years, but in the twenty years after the war bought AEC, Bristol,BUT, Crossley, Daimler,Guy, and Leyland Chassis. Only Dennis and Albion were left out.
  13. Again, East Lancs body and Ex Bolton. 1959.
  14. As this is an ongoing fault from within the warranty period they are still liable for a free fix. Maybe they need threatening with the small claims procedure? I.E. that you are going to have the work done and the sue them. Put it in writing in an email to the service department, including a timeline of the history of the fault.
  15. The VW 1.6 diesel tends to do that. I'm not sure where its good reputation comes from.
  16. I'm reasonably ok with my varifocals but will go to bifocal next time. At least on Specsavers varifocals, the reading portion is tiny.
  17. That's been a constant feature with Moto Gs. The weird thing with one of mine was that if you charged it for a couple of minutes after switching itself off it would then go up to 35-40% and not switch itself off again until it had gone down to 1%.
  18. The funny thing is I felt the same, then I started reading loads of Board of Trade railway accident reports from the 19th century, and found that back then it was usual to spell it breaks. The average Marketplace seller is fairly illiterate, though.
  19. A friend of mine had an ex police 2.5PI in about 1979 that had those plain hubcaps.
  20. Everything I put on marketplace immediately gets an attractive lady asking is it still available? As if a twenty something in Finland wants a Toyota Corolla headlamp.
  21. It's the most exciting thing that ever happened there.
