Spent the entire day on this:

I’m in Kefalonia. Used to come regular and my folks lived here for ten years. First time back in 12 years.
I’m exhausted as quads demand 100% attention 100% of the time. They are constantly trying to chuck you off. Great fun though. I left at 10:30 and got back to my room at 6:30. Got the machine until next Saturday.
I have been to most places here more than once but I saw a little cove online in the north east of the island, so went there. On the latter part of the journey, I didn’t see a car or human being for 35 minutes. Anyway, here’s the cove, with the tiny village that was destroyed and abandoned in the 1953 earthquake:

A pleasant surprise removing the battery on a 20 year old car and finding a battery tray like this.

This was a new one on me.  The Muji Car 1000, a poverty-spec K11 Micra-based car only available online.

That's a shame, but it doesn't look to have cracked the plastic - which is really quite remarkable given that it's a Mk1 Mondeo bumper.

It wasn't quite as bad as expected, although 4.5 hours behind the wheel left me glad to arrive when I finally made it. The sudden rainstorm on the M6 was borderline terrifying, sandwiched between two Stobart trucks - do I venture out from my 'safe' 56mph into the middle lane and mingle with those rapidly approaching from behind at 70+mph, or do I stay in the deluge of spray which is being thrown up at me and my single speed tiny wipers?
Sorry, no photos. Perhaps by tomorrow my hands will be steady enough to hold a camera.

Very enjoyable day. First longish trip, about 70 miles after I'd got a bit lost, in the Renault 25.Good to put a few faces to names and thanks to Chris and Clare for their hospitality. Lovely fish and chips, taste better in the fresh air with company.

Just back from nearly 200 mile round trip to FOD, AX was superb.
@Mrs6C thinks it's actually a diamond in the rough, and with a little effort can be a lovely little car. After today I tend to agree. Sat at about 60mph all the way there and back, it was faultess.
Pictured here at a coffee stop on the way.

    Back home

My son is 2 and likes boxes. Pretending they're houses, cars, fire engines etc.
I'll order a large one and we can build a fort and paint it. Happy days. Can't envisage any problems here

    ...well shit.
Box arrives and it's far, far too big.
    Obnoxiously big.
    Can't hide this one.
Missus walks into the hallway and freaks out.
After assembly it's not so bad.

3 days in and it's going very well.

Today I finally managed to buy a 2002 V70 that I’d agree to buy a few months ago, a couple of collection attempts had been thwarted by being pinged and then catching Covid but today was the day when all the ducks were in a row, the planets aligned and I was finally able to scoop it up.

My tool for collecting the V70 was the Amplus towing dolly which up until now I’d only used for moving old crocks around locally but this motor was in Bromborough on the Wirral, an hour or so from my home in Stoke on Trent and it was going to be by far the furthest I’d towed with it.  I met the sellers son at her house, had a chat and loaded up.
The Volvo was pretty sweet, D5 auto with 200k on the clock but one owner from new and full main dealer service history.  Unfortunately the elderly owner had knocked a motorcyclist off last December and it had been parked in a garage since then.  Fortunately the rider only had minor injuries although his bike was badly damaged and the Volvo took some damage too.

The towing dolly worked really well with no issues at all other than the small aero tyres it uses getting slightly hot. I don’t know if it’s a feature of the design or not, those little wheels must be spinning at a tremendous speed even when I’m only doing 50mph or so.

The V70 looks repairable but I’ll probably break it for spares instead, the auto box is probably on borrowed time as it’s on over 200k and are a weak point on these models, there’s lots of nice parts however. The Thor alloys sport newish Michelins and the spoiler would pretty snazzy on my own V70, I also fancy retrofitting the reverse sensors.

MoT check states it’s rated at 12t. First time I’ve seen 6-stud wheels on anything over 7.5t. General rule of thumb (for two axles) used to be:
    6-stud 17.5” wheels 5.6-7.5t
    8-stud on 17.5” wheels 8-12t, occasionally up to 14t
    10- stud 16-18t.

Back now, bath done, littlun in bed, feeling drained emotionally and physically, but it was a good day.
Many thanks as always to @Six-cylinderand @Mrs6C for the hospitality.
Also thanks to everyone there for making Dominic and I feel welcome. Apologies if I talked too much - it's a defence mechanism 😬
Was great to see everyone and chat crap. Even the impromptu comedy corner with @Talbot.

Nice to meet everyone today, old and new folk. I did three hours on the mower I think and am rather tired now! Luckily someone else is doing dinner.
