  1. well bought there, i had a couple of them mark 1 focus's as company hacks back when they were new and thought they are a superb car.

i thought them streets ahead of the equivalent astra and as as bigger leap forward over the mark 6 escrot as a modern jet fighter is when compared to the Wright brothers flyer.

and that one looks a good 'un, i dont remember the last time i saw one running,  never mind one with the back arches still made of metal!

one i had was a 2 litre ghia saloon, the only thing i didn't like much was the silly little fold down armrest thing on the captains chair, and i don't recall that one been any heavier on pez than the 1600 i had before it was.

goes to show, though that there are still really nice second hand cars to be found out there!

  2. marvelous marvin, the mini-metro has achieved an MOT pass.

on the second time of asking, mind, but a pass is a pass. its take a real good flush of  the brake fluid, and the front callipers have needed some persuasion to get them working, but now a least they are functioning as they should. no wonder there seemed to be little or no brakes on the car on the  drive over there!

what did it fail on? two worn ball joints, with an advise for brake imbalance on both axils.

the worn ball joints were mentioned as an advisory on the last MOT several years ago.

now it has had the ball joints changed, and the brake balance advisory notes have been addressed. and it now has a shiny MOT pass to show for it.

    which is nice.

only thing i need do now, is find it some winter quarters for it to wait until the better weather in the spring.

  3. have dragged the Metro out of its slumber today, and driven it up to George's so he can sort it out an MOT.

its the first time out in over 2 years.

what do we know from our drive today?

well, there is some vibration when under way, which is i think flat spotted tyres.

and the brakes are hopeless. there is not much braking unless the pedal is mashed to the floor. but it does ride very, very nicely now on its refurbished displacers, far more compliant than before with actually some bounce when needed,

so that will be the first thing that George will be looking at.

and guess what, who was the first thing we saw when setting off, in an untaxed and untested car?

it IS insured, not that matters without the other paperwork.

    yes. a bloody copper.

lucky for  me, he was more interested in getting up to Maccy D's than on the metro's paperwork!

and Kerry has been enjoying Cocopop too and from work this week. the car is riding beautifully. i have had a run around the block in it, and well, i didn't much enjoy it.

there you have it, i didn't really enjoy driving it. not at all.

so much so, i haven't used it myself for work since it came back. not that really i want to be in a small, slow car like on the Parkway/A19/A66 in rush hour.

i  think its future, along with the metro and mini 1000 are going to need to be seriously considered over the coming weeks and months.
