  1. Honda Melody followed soon after by a Mk1 Fiesta. T plate. Girlfriends prior to that one didnt drive. That one ended up as my wife. Still is.
  2. How come range meters are hopelessly optimistic?
  3. Driving. The South. Driving IN the South Fuuuuuuuck. How many fuckers just sit in the middle lane FOR FUCKING EVER when there is NOTHING in the inside lane for FUCKING MILES. Plus Southern folk - what is the fucking obsession with cameras? EVERYFUCKINGWHERE? Traffic lights, gantries, country lanes, box junctions, outside some random old ladies house, where a sign saying doing a U turn isnt allowed, to check if you are venturing 1 inch into London in a smelly diesel????? Everywhere had a bloody camera. Also: Smart motorways - UTTER FUCKING SHITE. Not only are they partly built with No work at all going on, but just miles and miles and miles of Average Speed cameras and 50mph zones where they are in operation every fucking gantry has a camera on it and TWICE today I saw people pulling out from the emergency refuge and having to get up to speed on a bloody live lane of the M6 and the M40 And once a car that had not made it to the emergency refuge and was stuck nudging the crash barrier on a live lane of the M6 whilst the signs simply said "obstruction" and dropped the speed to 60 FFS. And Breathe: Have a ZX estate.... And now wankers who wobble because they loaded the Mondeo arse first onto the trailer... Why would you do that? And I FUCKING HATE these number plates - almost always without fail found on something black.
  4. Summer Sundays are just around the corner
  5. 1978 Red Morris Marina 1.3 L Saloon 4dr Petrol Manual (69 bhp) for sale for £4,075 in HOUNSLOW, BOROUGH OF HOUNSLOW (autotrader.co.uk) £4,075
  6. Does the expansion tank say "Mit Silica"? If it does then have a shuftie on you tube about removal as it can end up clogging up the cooling system if the bag bursts (which they do)
  7. I loved my Mk2 Fiesta. It was a really good "an car". I cant say looking back it was any more / less reliable than the modern things I have in my life now, nor any better to drive. But it did the job and it was a piece of piss to work on.
  8. All my BX were diesel (1.7 or 1.9) the one that gave the best MPG was an early 1.7 square port NA diesel - the car was "happiest" at 60mph - which returned nearly 60MPG. The 1.4 3 banger Polo I drive now is proper rattly for a modern (OK, 18 year old) diesel car compared with the wifes diesel that when you are inside is whisper quiet.
  9. See also Louis Barbour 4x4 conversions - these still pop up for sale periodically
  10. Nothing wrong with self moderation. Occasional foot/mouth gathering happens and people should be able to retract/change /delete there opinion or post. Like a prominent member who we shall call Daphne (not his real name) recently who wanted to retract some of his posts for personal reasons.

    More tax

Looks like in 'Merica they are trying to legislate a "pay per mile" road taxation system. Which if your car is too old may legislate it off the road ( or so the American road lobby are saying) Could the government here do the same? Or just keep increasing road tax till it becomes uneconomical to tax your shitter?
  16. Its an Urban that has been mildly barried by a previous owner. No air con. Does haz running water feature in the boot (TADS)
  17. Well one. A shittybug. Woman I work with offered me this. Too good to pass up with a nearly new MOT. Barry.... Rough as a badgers and the 195 section tyres do it no favours at low speeds, but just had a brilliant hoon home from where I collected. Crispy... Hoontastic.... Low miles guv...

  20. A smidge under 75mph. But to be fair you are not wrong. I feel the same way about motorbikes, Im happy with something small and looking at the Trumpet 400 as being more than adequate, if Im honest a de-restricetd 50 is plenty for local commuting
  21. This at least appears to be true. Not everything made in China is cheap shit.
  22. What Hill Will You Die On for your opinion but other motorists think is wrong: THE ROVER K-SERIES METRO/100 WAS UTTER SHIT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT IT WAS. IT DESERVED TO DIE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OFF MUCH EARLIER. The A series mini Metro/ Metro was an adequate BLARG offering for the time, in an ideal world the bean counters would have fitted it with normal suspension rather than hydrolastic/hydragas and someone shoudl really have tried harder to come up with a 5 speed option rather than the overly tall 4th gear. But considering when it was designed and how quickly it went into production against established small cars like the Fiesta and Polo, it was OK. Grease nipples remained a part of weekend fettling, as was checking the dash pot had a bit of oil in it and going around the car treating rust blebs before they became bigger blebs the size of a subframe. It was still a car with 1950's technology and people who bought them for the most part understood this. Fast wind to 1991 and the K series Metro... The K series engine, good on paper but not quite as good IRL. A small coolant leak quickly led to the head gasket failing and in some cases completely knackering the engine. OK, not the end of the world, but something that should have been better from the outset, as was the use of plastic locator dowels and bolts that went riiiiiight through the block to attach the head. Dont get me wrong the K series when looked after and with an adequate coolant system can be a really good engine, Lotus used them for a while. The thing that really really really pisses me off about the K series Metro/100 was teh build quality. Essentially Metro Mk2 with some facelifts both inside and out but with no attention paid to the actual build quality. In the early 1990's customers were starting to get used to cars with decent prep and rust prevention from new, so that they were not the proud* owner of a pile of rust on wheels by 6 years old. Despite Rover being able to make a 200/25 bubble with reasonable build quality, they somehow bypassed this on the Metro and examples 4 and 5 years old were rusting badly and failing MOT tests - for this reason alone is why I hate with a passion the K series Rover Metro/100. No matter how good a new/sorted 1400 16v feels driving the whole of the underlying car remains frankly a let down with a clocks shared with the LDV vans of the time. I dont expect to sway anyone with my opinion or change theirs if they only see the K with rose tinted spectacles, in the same way that cars I loved and still do are undoubtedly utter shit. However its my opinion and I shall DIE ON THIS HILL. Over to you...
