  1. Within the fleet, the reliable car for the wife is supposed to be her MG ZS EV… Guess which car broke this weekend! MG can’t look at it for a week, and expected my wife to drive a car with broken steering the 15 miles to the dealership… I think not.
  2. Had a little more time on this today… although it pissed it down the entire time! Fitted the fuel pump and a new coil (Lucas… eeek!) to the Nova and…. Nothing. Still no fuel reaching the carb. I tried of an external tank and still no dice. Walked away for a few minutes to gather my thoughts and wondered if the new pump may need priming. Google said generally no, but I did it anyway and it worked! Ran it off the external first, and then connected it all up and it ran! Not only did it run, but it ran on less choke then ever before which was a big bit of progress. I was soaked through by now, and the radiator started emitting a fair bit of steam, so decided that water clearly wasn’t getting round well enough, so time to switch it off! My aim by this point had been to have got this far plus renewed all the fuel lines, refurbished the steel wheels, put new tyres on to aid moving and ready for MoT, and to solve some of the non working interior elements. Alas my deadline has now been reached, and tomorrow it goes off for a holiday, to get a few bits done. In a way a shame a I was building slow, but purposeful momentum!
  3. A superb day out! I stopped locally the night before and was glad I did so as not to have a 5am start! Such a great range of cars there… not least TWO Yugo Sanas!!! Crikey, I needed a sit down after those. Thankfully I recovered enough to be able to see… Good to see various folks, disappointed to miss some others! But a strong AS contingent were present! Looking forward to next year already!
  4. Rustival prep complete… now here and all parked up!
  5. I’m sure either of them would benefit from a run… Yep, shall be there in the 9000! Need to wash it first…
  6. Always nice to come home to a delivery from the postman… NOS rear seatbelts as found on eBay to fit! New fuel pump should be here tomorrow with a new coil too.
  7. Looks like the fuel pump is knackered. Removed the pump and turned it manually, no fuel pumped, so I connected the input end to a jerry can of fuel and replaced the pump on the engine and span it… nothing. Final check, is the line clear of blockages, connect syphon pump to the fuel line and the fuel flows perfectly fine. New fuel pump time. Having made the time (due to a deadline) I’ve enjoyed the fault finding… even if I’ve not solved it and got it running yet! Although… it was properly Baltic working outside today!
  8. Further Nova bothering was postponed today on arrival of that white stuff…
  9. Thought it was the same engine as in my Yugo Good to know parts are easy to come by for the engine!
  10. More fuel sloshed in, and still no dice. Will run fine with easy start or fuel put directly in the the carb. So will remove the fuel pump as a suspect next. Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s packed up after so long stood. It’s a long way from the tank too! Potentially it could have caused a restricted flow of fuel which would answer the poor running before potentially. One can hope! Fuel pumps are easy to source and cheap so I’ll get ordering!
  11. Tried that… still didn’t believe me. He was just being stubborn about it. Thought he’d bought a gold mine… Good news is it appears to be taxed currently! Id still absolutely love a Mayflower. One of my favourite 50s cars. Massively admire this purchase!
  12. Yeah, the dealer didn’t believe me on that one!
  13. Yeah exceptionally slow for me on every thread…. No idea why.
  14. He wanted £3500 Hadn’t been on the road properly for a few years, needed new outer sills (at least), new brakes and the fan didn’t work. It was also very lopsided! He said it was in “on the road condition because it runs, is MoT exempt and the plate has to be worth £2k on its own” Did try and talk him down to a more reasonable figure, but he was convinced he would make his money at auction.
  15. As I’ve said on a certain Zuckerberg owned social media machine, I love it!!! It looks such a lovely one. I was so tempted by this one a few months back. But sadly it was a bit rotten and needed a fair bit of other work and the dealer had seen the prices of fully restored ones and thought that was its value! I think. I should have tried harder to wear him down on price maybe…
  16. As I re-read this thread I had a triggered memory. When my MX5 got very wet from a leaking roof, the ignition switch got damp inside, this caused the exact symptoms you’re describing. If I wiggled the key around (especially if I put it in and took it out again a load of times) it would work most of the time. I put a load of WD40 down the ignition barrel and that helped too. Then it flooded, cooked the ECU and rotted the sills from the inside out. But that’s another story!
  17. I believe with the map of France found and the period GB sticker mine must have been en France at some point!
  18. There is one exactly like that I see at local shows… it’s awesome
  19. Exactly this. I posted on a faceache group about looking for someone to do some work, and some of the replies were along the lines of “not worth keeping a saloon, break it for engine parts for an SR”
  20. They do seem it. I saw this one at a show in September Very like mine. WHEN I get it going you’re welcome to one. Aiming to be soon. The Highlander sale was to fund work on this. I’m fed up with it sitting around! Loving the Nova memories!
  21. So… Douglas Adams once wrote “I love deadlines, I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by” Another chunk of time has passed. Another deadline has flown by… and the Nova is still sitting on the drive. A while ago I drained the tank, and bought some new fuel to put in. And then… nothing. A recurring theme. This weekend having spent some time on eBay I set to working out the running issues. I refilled the tank, and set to replacing ignition components. New plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. New fuel in and a dribble down the carb and it started straight up.., and died. Interesting that with the old ignition parts it used to take a few goes, that’s a good sign. With an helpful assistant I ran it for a minute or two on easy start by squirting into the carb, so that proves we’re not getting fuel through. Not sure if that’s the empty tank not having enough in it from two Jerry cans to prime the pump. Or something more like a seized fuel pump. In an ideal world I could do with it reliably running for next week… so will put a little more work in this weekend.
  22. Now unless I’ve missed something not on this thread I wasn’t aware that this was for sale so it might be worth tagging it as such so that people that haven’t caught up on your thread for a while would know. As for me, I’d love to take this on. But as with St Jude I lack time, and I already have too many projects, which aren’t making any progress!
