  1. Bloody well worked afterwards though didn’t it!
  2. It’s Wales… water-tightness will likely be more important than air con.
  3. 7.30am start 11.05pm back home, 348 miles covered! But totally worth it, what a lovely day out! Thanks @Six-cylinderand @Mrs6C for your amazing hospitality at the FoD again, and even more so for allowing me to pilot the Ami to bring it to the field. What a car, and firmly on the want list now! Great company, great fun and great cars! IMG_6355.MOV
  4. Fed the beast… Now traversing North Wales’ main roads… See you there in a bit!
  5. Let’s kick off June’s calendar thread with @HMC’s new Yank pickup!
  6. And some shameless self promotion…
  7. @Yoss’s Favourits… plural.
  8. I think we’re all looking forward to you showing up to Shitefest on the tractor! 😂😂
  9. @loserone’s tractor…
  10. Both the MX5s I’ve had had cubby holes there. I’d just assumed that was standard! I really miss my white MX5… I don’t miss my red one at all, despite the fact it was the far better car and far more reliable!!
  11. Ooh I don’t know… this one comes close… If this isn’t the look of “you ungrateful bastard” I don’t know what is!
  12. Facebook reminded me that it has been 2 years since we purchased the Green and white 2CV… the major welding required has been done, but it needs the wings replacing and then the main body shell given a damn good rub down and a couple of bits filled and then painted. So today (after much garage tidying to make it accessible) I made a proper start. Wings removed and the brand new rear wings primered ready to paint and then refit. The second hand front wings I bought don’t look as good as I remember, so I need to check if they’re actually better than the originals before I repaint them. Buoyed by this… I decided to celebrate the jubilee!
  13. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/514271290437816/ An UMM Alter II anyone? Weren’t there two on here at one point… @skattrdand someone else IIRC
  14. I love having the oldest car in the staff car park at our school. My 25 year old Volvo, or 30 year old Pontiac fits in well* amongst the shiny BMWs, Peugeots and even the odd Audi. But tbf everyone loves it if I bring the 2CV to school! Next oldest is a 20 year old MR2 run by one of the Science teachers.
  15. It is really good there. The brown Maestro always stands out! In another case of Bren and brownnova are always close without ever meeting I’ve been camping on Anglesey the last couple of days…
  16. Let’s take the factors one by one… Cost: Definite winner here for purchase cost is the banger, let’s say for example the purchase cost of my Volvo 940 at £1500 is still only what you would put down as a deposit on a brand new car. The maintenance cost is unlikely to add up to anywhere near the monthly payments. However fuel costs are higher. Overall cost wise the banger wins. Reliability/peace of mind: On one hand, find the right banger and the reliability should be top notch. If you’re a handy mechanic and have the time to do the repairs should it need them then great! But… a 200,000 mile shiter could grenade at any moment, more so than a modern. If you have back up cars then that’s no real issue. But for peace of mind when we had baby #2 (and had two breakdowns in a week) we opted for the peace of mind of the modern for Mrs_b. This has been a revelation as she does not worry about it going wrong and nothing more than plugging in is needed. Tbh, that peace of mind is worth the payments to us at this particular juncture in life. Environment: The jury is very much out on this one. Different studies show different things. It takes on average 8 years (dependent on size) for a car to equal out the savings on emissions vs production emissions. Other things have a much bigger impact on the environment. We went electric for the car we bought, not for environmental reasons but as it’s less to charge an electric car than fuel a diesel one, and it was an attempt to offset the costs. So that answers nothing really does it! So the deciding vote… I’d rather drive a Volvo 940 than an MG ZS! It’s simply a matter of choice.
  17. In other news the TF is in to the MG place for work to get the emissions sorted for the MoT… I hate jobs like this which you really have no idea of cost beforehand! EDIT: And it’s pissing down… wonder how long my MoT bodge wiper linkeage will last…
  18. Went to a charity car meet yesterday. Found a Pontiac Fierro GT Of course the opportunity not to unite two of Pontiac’s best* GT cars was too much to resist.
  19. That moment when you realise you’ve forgotten to put the roof up on your convertible… … and then you realise it’s been raining. Arsesticks.
  20. Was the MG TF! I need to update the list!
  21. MoT result: FAIL Thankfully both of my fixes passed, couple of trifling things (TRE & a tyre had a cut on the back) but could we get the emissions to come in under the limits? Could we bollocks. That’s why I usually stick to pre 2000 stuff!
  22. Update on the American car situation… I had a hood chat with the owners. A gent who owns a car dealership on the Wirral and uses them to commute! Legend. On with some spots!
