dougiefourspeed got a reaction from mk2_craig in Design Of The Ford Ka - Legends of the SMOL
An early Ka was my first ‘proper’ car once I passed my test. I had started out with a mk2 Fiesta L which never saw the road as it was properly rotten. I sold it on for the same £50 I paid for it to a mechanic who was going to XR2 it or something.
Since then I’ve had a SportKa, which was everything good about the original magnified. Sublime handling, sweet gear change and good low down torque. It didn’t deal with any of the drawbacks mind, wheezy at high revs, rust prone and not particularly good on fuel for the size of car.
I love ‘em though. I have a Y-plate Ka ‘Collection’ squirrelled away. 44k on the clock. A family heirloom that now lives in South West France away from the rain and salt.

No. We do all the street drinking on the other side of that supermarket you can see in your photo. Don't know about whiskey mind, White Lightning is still very much en vogue in Rye.
Anyway, top purchasing. I'd love a V6 Coupe, although I hear they're Oliver Reed thirsty.

dougiefourspeed got a reaction from mk2_craig in Channel Island Chod: GM landfill
Wow. I've just spent a fair bit of time engrossed in this thread from start to finish, some brilliant spots and a reminder that I really would like to visit the Channel Islands sooner rather than later! Funny to think that the surviving cars from the early pages in the thread are probably worth many times more now than when you papped them, the Cozzies, Integrales and Quattros spring to mind.

OK - I am cheating here by starting this thread early, but as I plan on starting out at 5am local time (4am for most of you lot) I am not stopping to start threads before leaving. It will be very dark and I am not a morning person, so WCPGW?
As is traditional with these threads, starting with the breakfast shot and again a cheat, the coffee is for now, but the crisps will be mated with a fresh brew in the morning.
Tomorrow will see me set off across 3 countries to make an unusual collection for me, before returning tomorrow afternoon/evening, so can I count that as 6 countries?

This is a strong entry, use of sausage breakwater technique and the egg placement is an inventive way to keep it out of the bean juice.
Can only really dock points for only 1 egg and no black pudding so 8/10.

Watching your car being MOT’D once you know it’s failed is like watching your ex with her new fella and your kids with their new Dad.
What the fuck do I know. It passed!!
Was convinced a rear brake was binding. Nop! We’re in!!

dougiefourspeed reacted to trigger in The new news 24 thread
There's been zero car activity with me recently, the most exciting thing to happen so far is that my van passed its MOT yesterday with a clean sweep after doing over 1600 miles last year, not too shabby considering how long it had been off the road and that (touch wood) I've not had any dramas in it yet.

Well he got sick of taking paint off (theres only that small amount left on the boot anyway) so the filler work has started
He has also re instated the door lock hole for me as I realised what a Muppet I had been removing the locks all those years ago

Wobbler refers to 90's as 'peak car' in his review of my Mondeo, I cannot disagree.

90s cars are great. Just the right amount of technology, performance and reliability. Forget anything made after and anything made before will have you lying outside on your arse fixing it on a rainy Sunday night. (and I say that as someone who drives a 1982 car every day).
It's a crime that 90s cars are still worthless. They're the sweet spot of automotive history, for me anyway

FTFY.
As well as the above there are sporty Cavaliers (Turbo, GSi, SRi), Volkswagen T4, Audi S2, Audi S4 (based on Audi 100), E36 BMW (various models inc. M3), Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, Nissan Figaro, Jaguar XJ220, Maserati Ghibli, Renault Twingo, Subaru Impreza, Nissan Stagea, Citroen Saxo, TVR Chimaera / Cerbera, etc. etc.
In fact, I suspect it was a troll comment because "there were no good cars made after 1986, hur hur". Well, there were.

ELA was tidied up today and I took it to a nice spot nearby for photos. So it is officially for sale, and will be going on the open market for £3000 this weekend. MOT till 21/12/2019. About 110 500 miles. New front brake discs and pads, new rear subframe bushes (big job), welding to O/S and N/S inner sill/floor, which was done properly by a pro. Lots of service history, not written off or anything like that (I have done a car history check) all the books, two keys, at least one working remote fob. The wheels have been refurbished at some point and they have had the diamond cutting redone, not just someone painting them. They look fab. Runs really well, videos to follow. Consumes fuel like a burning oil-rig, but that is quite normal. Expect 18-20 Mpg. Performance is ballistic. It will bite if you provoke it so you have to be a little sensible especially on slippery roundabouts. Has a working CD multi-changer and functioning electric folding mirrors, which is a nice novelty.
Downsides are the usual clock, pinned headlining, one front wing is going around the bottom edge (other side perfect for some reason), some little blebs here and there. Overall it's solid but rough around the edges. The odd dent here, the odd spot of laquer peel (not much, a few coin size pieces), and it will need tyres.
Location, spitting distance of York.

Hells teeth, it sounds like you’re inventorying my barns!
I drive most of the old chod you lot are searching for!
50 miles today in a G plate Yugo 45, 150 yesterday in an Espero
Tomorrow it’s a Renault 21, to see if I do want to sell it ( being pestered)
I do have a ‘ modern’, it’s not even taxed.

dougiefourspeed got a reaction from michael t in When did you last see a......
I guess it's all relative. I mean, you don't see many Hyundai Stellars on the road today, but I don't recall them ever being that common even 20 years ago. Maybe I just live in an area of HGD (High Giffer Density), but I still see a reasonable amount of old chod doing the daily grind. Someone round the corner from me has a C-plate blue Maestro which has been papped on here before, another chap has a brace of Aggros, and there's a lovely late (J-reg, I think) Sierra Sapphire LX which I see a few times a month.
Cars I used to see everywhere but now hardly see at all:
Phase 1 Pug 106 - The last one I remember seeing was my old blue one. Phase 2's are still a common sight around here though as are Saxos.
Renault 19/21/25 - Can't remember the last time I spotted any of these three.
Mark 1 Galaxy/Sharan - Seem to have thinned out massively over the last few years.
Rover 200 R3/400 HHR - 25 and 45 are fairly common, as are the MG versions but early ones are scarce. The same shape Honda Civic too.
Astra G - Not quite disappeared but they're thinning fast. Shame really, they were a billion times better than the Astra H in my eyes.
Golf Mk3 - Again, not totally disappeared, but rarer than they were 5 years ago.
Rover Metro/100 - I occasionally see an R-plate 100 on my commute, but that's it.
Xsara/Xsara Picasso - Always thought the Xsara was alright, but I never liked the Picasso.
On the other hand, older cars I used to see everywhere and still do:
BMW E34/E36 - Still a fair few running around. They seem to range between tatty but solid runners like my Compact to show queen 540i's and M3's but still plenty around.
Merc W202 C Class - I would've thought they'd have rusted away by now, but seemingly not.
Sierra - Maybe this is just down to the sheer number sold, but I still see a handful of 'normal' Sierras on the regular.
Golf Mk2 - Mostly GTI's these days, but I reckon I see more about than Mk3's.
90's Impreza - Still lots of WRX's about. Although most seem to be in the hands of a more discerning clientele these days.
Cavalier Mk3/Vectra B - Few of each still knocking around.
K11 Micra - Seems to be the takeaway delivery car of choice around here. Don't see any pre-facelift ones now mind.
