I've liked Reliant three wheelers since childhood. Especially the rarer ones like the ant and the very early aluminium bodied cars. The ragtop ones are cool as. I'm wondering now if I could get one sideways in my garage....

What can I say that hasn't been said? 2.0 litre ones are a bit pants and need a manual gearbox to get the best from them but reward that with high twenties fuel consumption.
The main issue with old Volvos is that they last long enough to wear out the stuff that doesn't wear on other cars but serious problems are thankfully quite rare. I did 14 thousand miles in a 25 year old 740 and the only unexpected failure was the distributor packing up. Niggly problems abound but they are generally well known and easily sorted if you're bothered by then.
They're one of the easiest and most relaxing things to drive whether in manual or auto flavour and probably all the car anyone ever needs.
Also, they make superb tents.

Come to France. You can all sleep in my spare room, or camp in the garden. I have tools n stuff for repairs, and its usually sunny in summer.
Not much car-related to do anywhere in the area but I have a barbecue and know a man who makes good sausages.

The Rialto 2 model did indeed have a high comp engine, different cam, carb set up and dizzy, together with a different axle ratio. These were indeed capable of over 100 (tho a good standard one will nudge that anyway) remember one guy being nicked in one in the 80s for doing 104 on the motorway. The reason for the change wasnt speed tho,it was economy, those were good for 70+mpg if driven carefully. The reason for the change back to standard was because reliant owners were complaining that they couldnt just stick it in 4th at 30mph any more and had to use the gears more.Reliant owners arent scared of anything,if they were, they wouldnt drive one!

Uncle Jimmy got a reaction from brickwall in Engine flush - yay or nay?
On modern cars I'd say yes. Anything older, especially '70s and earlier no. I've been told of oil leaks occurring due to damage to Cork gaskets. Maybe this is the solvents damaging them? Some old boys have told me they used a pint of paraffin which seems a bit vicious too.
The oil in my Corolla I bought 6 weeks ago was like molasses and there was a fair bit of brown varnish around the cam gear so I've filled up with cheap semi synthetic and I'll do so again after a few hundred miles.

Rialto respect due.
I read that Reliant started building Rialtos with a high compression engine. They were capable of doing a ton and they had to lower the compression again to avoid scaring the pants out of owners- is this true?

Here's some prior art if you fancy challenging Ford's QuickClear patent.
It is literally a second windscreen you install inside the car with some heating elements strung across it.
As if being thrown through the windscreen in an accident wasn't bad enough, now you get thrown through two sheets of glass with an electric fence between them.
