  1. Keep going! You wouldn’t have as interesting a thread, and it’s satisfying to see an unloved one turning into a nice example.
  2. Thanks @LightBulbFun. Either way it looks like there was 100% a change of owner in 2005, when the car would’ve still be worth something. It would be like going and buying a late 70s unrestored cortina just now. I don’t think the car got dodgy mots every year, even in recent years and on a main truck road our equivalent man in Scotland lived in his car in Scotland managed a couple of years after the mot and tax expired on his Mercedes before the police removed it https://www.scotsman.com/regions/dundee-and-tayside/man-who-camped-on-a9-for-three-years-evicted-1493996 He was known to the police and understandably violent about being moved. A more innocent older lady on a quieter road, with good relationships with some of the neighbours, made a good tomato chutney etc would’ve been able to keep the car a lot longer on the road without a mot. The photos of the car are later on in its time with her (so early 00s) which show it to be hanging/rusty, but it could’ve still been motd / taxed in the 80s and most of the 90s. Also back then there was less social media, no camera phones, no easy way of checking if a car had a mot, no anpr cameras and rules about being continually insured or whatever.
  3. 100% correct, it happened in October 2014, it still says on the little slips you get when you sell a car something like “did you know since October 2014 tax is no longer transferable” as DVLA think we might all still be living under a rock the past 10 years.
  4. Oddly enough another reg checker (which is normally 100% accurate if you can read the code) says nothing happened in 2005 but instead changed hands in Jan 2009. By that point the car (in whatever state) would’ve been worth quite a bit of money. To put it into perspective the 1961 consul Mk2 in 2009 would be like going and buying a 1975 Mk3 Cortina just now. The car would’ve been worth money back then, and must have been restored, and is still with a long term owner who may not know about the cars past.
  5. I kept expecting a snotty letter telling me to insure it but no, almost a year on. It appears you can tax a historic car for a year (for free), never have it insured and never get a dvla letter asking it to be insured. They do still send a reminder though, so the current owner has almost certainly got a reminder through and just went online or to a post office and taxed it for free.
  6. I’ve taxed a classic car around the same age as her Ford without it being insured quite recently (didn’t think it would go through but it did)

Price £5000 or nearest offer I wish an unexpected DB7 arrived at mine for Christmas
  8. I keep looking longingly at that one but being in Ireland the logistics are a bit out the window
  9. Spotted on gumtree tonight Volvo, V50, Estate, 2005, Manual, 1997 (cc), 5 doors https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/volvo-v50-estate-2005-manual-1997-cc-5-doors/1467454634?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms
  10. Reading between the lines he has probably lost interest in the car and brought the fairly cheap 3 years ago anyway so doesn’t really owe them much.
  11. Contact has been made with the owner, Daniel. If anyone wants his number and can save the car please let me know, I don’t think he wants much money for the car, below is what I’ve been told: It’ll run and drive well with a jump, though actually driving it is another matter. The electric drivers seat is stuck fully reclined and needs a new ECU apparently. According to the garage, that’s all that’s stopping it passing an MOT. Although with it having sat so long, issues are starting to arise. The roof rust is gaining an unfortunate hold, the drivers door trim was disassembled and needs refitting and obviously the seat is the biggest issue. There are probably other minor things I’m missing but those are the major points. But apart from that, if these things were sorted I’m fairly certain she’d see the road again, though I’m no expert.
  12. Thats very long vs filling it out online, thanks though
  13. Does anyone know how long it should take to get a v5 back if it was filled out by hard copy (not online) and posted a week ago?
  14. I sometimes wonder where SH12RYN (feel free to look up) gets it’s mots done, has under 20k on the clock but always a huge list of pointless advisories Rear ALL THE REAR WINDOWS ARE TINTED
  15. Hi @Schaefft, sorry I missed this, I supplied a bumper from an e39 that was being broken at a scrapyard. The body shop said this would be cheaper than fixing the existing bumper which had got damaged. Once the front alpina splitter id written about earlier arrived the bodyshop then painted both the splitter and bumper at the same time and fitted it. This worked out at around the £250 mark but difficult to say as the final bill was more as other jobs incl fitting those new headlights were done at the same time. I imagine if you didn’t have a front splitter to paint/fit it would be less £
  16. I know, I was almost annoyed they went downstairs 😂

  18. B6 shape Audi A4 tailgate wanted, ideally in dolphin grey - like this picture Also still trying to sell a set of BMW E34 BBS alloys, 5 stud, from late 80s/early 90s 5 series, open to an offer by PM as thinking about weighing them in which is a shame - thanks
  19. Looks a good buy, the interiors are always a nice place to be. I have a set of these with recent tyres if you’d ever like a set in the style of those above
  20. 37.5K mile Peugeot 406, seems to have had the same owner from nearly new until recently, clean MOT history too, and I think is genuine. If anyone on here buys this please let me know, I'd be interested in it at a later date for sure: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/849457749669427/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner
  21. Maybe get in touch and see if the owner would ever sell the car, he may just say no. If they say yes I am sure someone on the forum would take the car on.
  22. That’s a pity, the owner seemed to be an enthusiast, the car was featured in a magazine. Are you nearby the garage it’s abandoned at?
