I picked the MGB up this evening from the garage that did the MOT work.  They'd given it a tune-up too - it still idles rather high, but it now actually goes when I put my foot down rather than just popping and spluttering, so I can now overtake dithering old twats in Peugeots without a half-mile run-up.  They also fixed the binding brakes and fitted new front pads, so the brakes feel a lot more confidence-inspiring.  Both the garage and the MOT tester were surprised at how solid it was and how well it drove given what an utter shitheap it is to look at.

Now to find some nice fancy car shows and park it in the middle of a row of immaculate Tartan Red chrome-bumper roadsters.

A Halfords "We fit" operative informed me the other day that the Renault had "a crackin' leak, looks like it's from the radiator pal" (it's not).
I couldn't be arsed making conversion so I just said "Aye it's fucked" and got in my car.

Whilst I would never harm a cat, or anything else for that matter, am grumpy about the cats next door. Having made a huge effort to create a wildlife garden, watched robins and blackbirds bring up their young only to be killed (not eaten, just all killed) by the the two overfed cats that live next door is a grump. My lurcher is well fed also, but I bet the folks next door would be jolly cross if she attacked their cats in a similar way whilst they were in my garden. 'It's natural innit' only seems to work one way for cat owners.. I don't allow my lurcher to chase the cats by the way, but am sorely tempted at times. 😡

so yes, I bought a 'mummy truck' - first impressions are favourable, it's comfortable, easy to drive and no slouch on the motorway back to edinburgh. at 67000 miles, it's barely run in but it does have a few battle scars - I took it to the local car wash on the way home and it's come up a treat.

thanks all for watching, it certainly livened up the journey

I was going to defend cats, then I remember owning cats and apart from occasional cuteness cats are utter, utter bastards.

Yes they work. I have one for the garden as the local cats used it as a toilet, not ideal when the wee one was playing. Bit dear mind.

    Hello,

Time to introduce myself.  A very long time lurker here, one who enjoys the humour from afar.

Keeping a 40-year old V8 Rover on the road is one of the joys* of life, but I'm sure you must agree, life is just not worth living without a P6.

I have a tiny garage, a narrow driveway, and Too Many Cars.

And my dream?  One day, my ultimate dream?  I once dreamed of Morgan Plus 8s and Aston DB5s and Maserati Quatroportes.  But now?

Why, a Morris Isis, of course.

Don't be too quick to blame a cat, we bought a new safety net for our trampoline earlier in the year and were pissed off to find sections of it ripped down , we blamed the cat, I don't like the fucker anyway, so happy to blame it and it's wanton vandalism.Until early one morning ,about 3 weeks ago I could hear a tearing sound in the garden, I looked out and there was a squirrel systematically tearing the net along the seams. Didnt appear to be taking any bits away,he'd just decided to rip it up,next doors greenhouse was all that saved him from an air rifle pellet in the head.

Picked up an official Rover workshop manual for the SD1 at the rather excellent Llangollen Motor Museum autojumble shop last weekend, and today I looked up how to change the speedo cable.

Sure enough, there it is in the contents: speedometer cable assembly - remove and refit, section 88.30.06.  Yay!

Except there's nothing between 88.30.01 and 88.30.21.  Fucksticks.  And no, there isn't a page missing, they're opposite sides of the same sheet.

Bloody Rover Group.  If they're not careful they'll go out of business at this rate.

True, it doesn't say you can't, but I can't help fearing that you'd have to stand up and try to argue that one with the magistrates, in the face of an ANPR-driven fixed penalty.

As an aside, a while ago I met some of the boffins that invented ANPR.  Didn't know whether to congratulate them or smack them really hard; I think I settled for a rather weak smile and then went outside to kick something.

This might be well known and therefore pointless, but I thought it might help someone?

There is the option to search for cars 'over 10 years old' which isn't very autoshite let's be honest. However if you click over 10 years and then in the address bar find the 'over_10' part and change to whatever you like. 'over_20' works well.
