You're not wrong! The NXWM B7s were nearly always on full until Grayson Systems came out with an electric retrofit package. They're quite cool too as they have a routine where they blow backwards to help clear the crap back out of the fins.
The original set up was an ecu controlled hydraulic set up and its fail state was full on at full (engine driven) pump pressure Needless to say, any glitch in sensors, wiring or ecu meant double deck hoovers running around. They reckoned that it knocked over 1mpg off the economy, not great when they're only doing about 5 to begin with.

    Go wash your mouth out!
You should listen to what VAG class as a diesel with that age PD. This is a refined purring sewing machine in comparison!
I'd go take a video of my wife's Civic 1.8 as a comparison. However she's using it as it hasn't and never* has broken.

Mum has gone now, don’t know what else to say. I’ve gone from two parents to one parent, to no parents in 14 months. My boys are devastated too.

Yep.  I've been wanting to pull the cowls off anyway so not the end of the world.  Just the timing amused me more than anything given it's less than 48 hours since I ordered a bunch of parts and could have just included it with that.

That might depend on whether I can be bothered to crawl around in this weather and attach the return fuel line...Though knowing me, it's entirely likely I'd end up doing that rather than being sensible!

How about turning the fire engine into a generator truck? Plenty of those were used in showman’s fleets for powering the various amusements etc.

that ixo montego would be fairly easy to do some vaiation with- smooth later rear lights, alloy wheels, rear spoiler, red boot infill panel, modify the front grille for the "rover" look from '89

My offer still stands when you get it driving. I'll meet you outside the ulez somewhere and can be your personal rear crash protection/indicators/"fuck off prick" to the car behind for your first drive to the FoD until you get used to it.
Driving it around london would be fine*, far scarier when your get out to the country and everyone speeds up. I'm driving to Kentish town tomorrow and know that once we get up to Perivale if we go above 40 we're doing well. Be more like 25 (and dad's car will still insist on firing up the engine for 4 seconds before shutting it off and going back to eV just in time for the next set of lights despite be being as gentle and slow pulling away as is humanly possible to be for the entire journey 😂)
